So I saw them talking about this on Film 2015, and unusually they all thought it was actually good - and apparently people were shatting bricks at Cannes. I'm not one to get excited about anything as you know, I expect everything to be fucking shit, but it piqued my interest because it seems to be filmed in a weird dreamy way, and the soundtrack sounds like some mental synth John Carpenter stuff.

The plot seems to be the whole sex=death trope crossed with a Ring like curse. A metaphor for STD's perhaps?

On Film 2015 the trailer didn't have all that text and therefore looked less shit.

Thoughts? Anyone seen it? The last horror film that actually scared me was the Japanese version of Ring. So yeah.

The people reviewing it on the Radio 4 film review show thought it was awesome, and so did the Canadian film review guy I heard talking about it. Super scary apparently. I've never been scared by a film so it would be a first for me.

OMG me too! Except the movie itself didn't scare me at all, it was the part where there supposed to be a ghost in some reflection that the crew didn't actually put in there.

But that's only because I had a really cool English teacher when I was 13. We watched "Ringu" (the Japanese version) and were tasked to write an essay on the themes in the movie. We watched the movie during class and he paused it at that bit and told us about it.

I should really re-watch those. I even liked the English adaptations even though I hate that child.

I often find I can watch stuff and not bat an eyelid, but then later I get creeped out by the concepts, even if the film/story wasn't that good.

I think I was over 20 when I saw Ring the first time. If I'd been 13 I probably would have been in a psychiatric hospital by now.

I didn't mind the English version so much. I mean they kept true to the spirit of the original.

Just found out the soundtrack to this is by Disasterpiece - who did the soundtrack to Fez, so even if the film sucks the OST should be enjoyable

How had I just heard of this? (EDIT: or apparently totally forgotten about it from this thread and then just re-discovered it today by accidentally making a duplicate thread). Aaaaand it comes out tomorrow!? ...but I can't find any showtimes locally. :\

Also, it's getting AMAZING reviews still.
