I am looking at pictures of things a friend’s partner made and I am like, that looks really cool and I want to make something :sadpanda:

Has anyone ever made jewellery themselves? What materials did you use?

I want to make something with metal but I don’t know where to start but I’ve also not really looked into it or anything

I've done some suupppeerrr super basic stuff like I made this necklace by threading all assorted random beads and cool dangly things on them little pins (there's a proper name, I don't know it) and when I had like ... idk 15 of those I cut a fine necklace chain into sections and like added the beaded thingummies all through it and it's pretty and stuff like that. I think it's fairly easy/cheap to get started with right basic shit like that all you need is some chain and them little rings (jump rings maybe?) and then like pliers and BOOM. Also useful for if your nice jewellery you spent money on breaks and you need to fix it.

I did a jewellery making course and really enjoyed it. I think my art thread still shows the brooch, ring, and ear-rings I made. I used copper and silver. I'd love to have kept it up, but it is an expensive hobby if you aren't making money off of it.

Before I was a gardener, I was a jeweller and made stuff out of a range of metals and materials. My thing was lost-wax casting and wax carving, which is kind of a dying skill now CAD is so much more common.
Depending on what you're interested in doing, I can link you to suppliers of materials in the Brum jewellery quarter. If you're any good with modelling clays, it might interest you to know you can get metal clays which are baked in a domestic oven and leave behind a precious metal model. I've been meaning to get some to fiddle with but I never have enough time and am wary of the shelf life of such a product.
