Last Film You've Seen

Well, maybe it was just me but the general message I got from the movie was
'if you hide the evidence well enough, your victims will move on!'
Perhaps it had something to do with
that bizarre part where she somehow came back to life and got to kiss her dreamboat, but the fact that it happens at the same time he throws away evidence of his crime just makes it very iffy.

Also the father is extremely fucking creepy and plays essentially the same character in M. Night Shamalamadingdong's 'The Happening', so I had a very hard time sympathizing with him even though he did lose his daughter.

Actually I'm kind of happy both those things were kept in if only because they were also both huge points of discussion in the book as well -- so at least rather than changing it Jackson kept the story the same and let the viewers judge it themselves.

Speaking of keeping things in, I'm actually curious if they
kept in (or at least suggested) she was raped. I remember before the movie came out there was a lot of talk about whether or not that aspect would be cut or not.

And on the subject of
the bones never being found, initially when I read that part I raaaaaaaaaaaged, but, I suppose, realistically not all victims find justice -- either way, the family still has to cope.

( also Here is an excellent summary of how I felt during The Happening. "Yes, there's a cheap monster effect for you -- the wind. The only cheaper thing I can think of would be low humidity.")

Question - should we post in this thread if the last film we saw was a porno? Because I just bought Backdoor Bitches Volume 4, and found it a very titillating look into the female sexual psyche and society's views on the role gender plays in intimacy. I'll make an actual post after someone replies to this, heh.

Yeah, it wasn't really implied if she was/was not raped. It's like 'oh hey this guy is intensely skeevy' 'oh hey, they're going into a playhouse thing, hey don't pet her hair, that's creepy' followed by 'ohshi gtf outta there'.

But Mark Wahlberg's terrible acting made me convinced in the early part of the film that
he was going to be her murderer. And of course, he wasn't, but goddamn he was lucky the other guy was just so painfully creepy.

Also OLO THE CRAPPENING.

Saw some of Van Helsing on TV last night. My only complaint about that film has always been that Van Helsing's first name is Abraham, not Gabriel.

Still, with the new Wolfman out next week, I'm going to be going through my werewolf film DVDs. Two for those interested in lycanthropes to check: Wolf and Dog Soldiers. Best werewolf movies ever, IMHO.

Kamen Rider Decade: All riders vs. Dai-shocker

as much as I was hyped for the film, I was disappointed that they didn't bother to add more stories to the film that can easily be topped at 2:30 hours instead of cramming them up without giving them proper closure. Like when does the film take place (it seems to contradict some of the episodes of Decade, but I'd roughly put it after Episode 19) and Why the hell is Gackt in it for a few minutes then didn't participate in the epic finale.

All in all, I give it a 7/10, entertaining for those who like half senseless fighting - half senseless storyline. But difficult for others to relate at many of the strange happenings.

Last three movies I saw (all of them in theater):

Avatar - interesting to look at, but with zero plot;
The Lovely Bones - worse than I expected;
Sherlock Holmes - it was okay.

Winter

I saw Sherlock Holmes recently and really liked it because of the era and the whole geeky nature of the plot (it's like old-school CSI in London!) and because OH MY GOD GIRLS IN SUITS, so I really can't even say whether it was actually a good movie or not. I just liked it.

I also saw Daybreakers, which was.... it was different than I thought it would be. Definitely good, I thought. Sort of a b-movie meets science fiction...? I can't even describe it, but I really liked it. It is entirely possible, however, that I only liked it this much because it was seriously the anti-Twilight, it was EVERYTHING TWILIGHT ISN'T.

And I'm okay with that.

THANK YOU!!! I have heard zero discussion of the film's "plot", which is why I haven't been to see it. Now I'm glad I haven't.

Battlefield - as with many of the BBC's recent releases of classic Dr Who episodes on TV, there's the original TV version, and a feature length version with cut scenes re-edited in and new effects. This one is so awesome - it's nice to see the Doctor on the backfoot for once, even though he's on the backfoot because
a lot of the plot is based on things he'll do in his personal future
.

Wolf - Jack Nicholson. Michele Pfiefer(sp?). James Spader. Werewolf movie. AWESOME. :awesome:

*nods* That's true. I mean, it was true for the third X-Men film and the Star Wars prequels. And then a few hours or days later, I realised I wasted a few hours of my life I'd never get back.

Seriously, maybe a week or so later, I'd think back and go "well, that was pointless". I'll probably wait 'til it's out on DVD and rent it. Mind you, I said the same with Watchmen... *shrug*

Last night, I watched Dorian Gray. I was meant to have seen this at the cinema with a friend, but each week, something would come up at the last moment. Pity, as the philosophy in it would have led to some interesting discussions afterwards.

Today, the Wolfman. If ever I'm set upon by a mob, I want Anthony Hopkins in my corner. :awesome: Very good remake.

Honestly people, saying there's no story in Avatar is dumb. The story is complete, fully functional and works. Just cause its a rehash doesnt mean the story is shit, we've just seen it before.

Going to see Wolfman tommorow with my gf. Awesome Valentines Day movie!

Last movie I saw was Wolfman, but only because my friend wanted to.

There were some pretty annoying kids behind us who made it difficult to really enjoy the movie, but I'm not a big fan of Werewolves and all those mythological creatures anyway, so the film was kind of blah anyway.

Nothing like what I was expecting from the V for Vendetta director.

But seriously, Unobtainium? I was blown away when I read that in a review - I'd heard that was what the mineral they were looking for was called, but as the guy I'd first heard that from was just ripping on how unimaginative the film was, I took it for a piss take. Like the comedian then said, "is that what we in the UK call 'grit'?"

Well, surprisingly - yes. After all, in this film they correct the misapprehension started by the original Wolf Man that silver bullets are for killing werewolves - the silver bullet was considered the weapon of choice for monsters. And they then go on to say that a werewolf can only be killed by someone who loves him/her.

Dante's Inferno - the anime of the game. :awesome: I believe they may have taken some liberties with the source material.

When we've seen it before handled better and less transparent, yes it does mean the story is shit. Also when the creator made such a big deal about how progressive and insightful the movie would be.

Not the mention that fact that Cameron has supposedly been sitting on this movie for fifteen years and that was the best he could come up with.

It would have been a decent movie if it wasn't for the fact it was built up to be this amazing work of art of epic proportions.

It was a good movie. Not great but not shit either - just average.
It certainly wasn't the spectacle it was hyped up to be

Avatar.

The only thing keeping me from saying it was a waste of three hours is that it was good eye candy.

But still, I should have just watched Fern Gully and Pocahontas back to back and saved my money.

"The New World" was on TV last night, which was Pocahontas, only with peoples and Colin Farrell. And some chick called Q'orianka Kilcher - not even Cameron could come up with a name that contorted, and she's not even blue.

That's right, Cameron, sci-fi writers, fantasy writers, andsoforth - apostrophes in names aren't that odd. Neither are clicks.
