Well Toriyama also said he wanted to give Lightning a happy ending in XIII-2.
So in Lightning Returns I can only imagine by "happy ending" he means the real world being destroyed as we play the game.

Well to expand on Noel,
if you read the Nova Crystallis write ups on LR, we learn it's not just Noel who is tainted by the chaos. Other friends will also be tainted

Of course everybody who used to be useful* is suddenly fucking useless and needs Lightning to rescue them. I am pumped for this game but the colossal hard-on that SE have for Lightning keeps turkey slapping me and it's a little annoying

They're not useless, they're tainted by chaos and fighting on the 'wrong' side. Lightning has to fight them to convince them they're wrong, or something. I wouldn't necessarily call that 'rescuing' but that's just me.

I had a dream that I got the Japanese version of the guide and I could somehow magically read it and it had all of this awesome information including a crap ton about Fang (<3), and then I was actually there, I was in LR, hanging out with Fang and Lightning and it was AWESHUM...even though we were doing totally mundane things like visiting a temple and sitting through a service of some kind of mumbo jumbo we didn't understand...

Go to Games, then Trailers, then you should see it immediately as it was recently uploaded. That's how it is for the EU PSN at least.

As someone who praises and loves XIII-2's OST, I'm looking forward to LR's a lot.
Tony from finalfantasy.net said that during the demo presentation they heard a new battle theme with a fast tempo and it doesn't have Blinded By Light's melody. He said it is likely composed by Mizuta.
I find it interesting that they assigned a composer for each continent. I love Hamauzu's great pieces in XIII's OST but I love their eclectic approach in XIII-2 more. Just speculating on who's working on what, I think Hamauzu will work on the Wildlands, Mizuta on the Dead Dunes, and Suzuki on Luxerion. I based that off from their music styles. The question is the 4th continent; they're either working on it altogether or one of them works on it as well or it's going to be a surprise where they introduce a new composer (I'm already seeing people wishing it's Uematsu).
Speaking of the last continent, what do you guys think it will be like? They said from the first presentations that there will be 2 continents consisting of wild plains, forests, etc., but I see snowy mountains covered by clouds at the far upper left side in the artwork. Either that indicates just the peaks of the mountains, or we're also getting a snowy continent. I wish it's the latter.

.Then again, FFXIII-2's ending was... hm. Well, let's just say that
it wasn't a happy or 'closing' ending, so a sequel was pretty much a given
. Speaking of, I haven't bought any DLC for xiii-2, is it worth it?

i mean we've got lightning who has abandoned etro, and considering this whole mess was caused by etro in the first place, it would be nice if that was brought up as part of the personal conflict
depends on your personal preference, tbh. i liked a lot of the costumes but not everyone cares that much about playing dress up. the coliseum fights are a really good challenge if you're looking for a little something else to do post game.

XIII-2 ost was... interesting. I remember reading the reviews and none of them agreed with each other on the music, half thought it was the greatest OST and the other half despised it. It was certainly one of the most diverse.
I suppose that we'll be getting the same sort of diversity. I don't mind it actually, I thought XIII-2s was a mixed bag of really good (I love the Last Hunter and Caius's Theme) with some terrible (heavy metal ugh). But it was never boring and for the most part enjoyable.
I just hope they tone down the songs with lyrics. Unless it's Dust to Dust. Dust to Dust is still one of my favorites.

I hope we get something more than "chaos has corrupted him" for Noel. Because he just saw Serah die, and Yuel die, and Caius die, and he failed the world, also Etros. I'd like to see him confront these issues in a way that feel real and not a cop out, make it a real personal dilemma. Hell make it for all the characters.
This. It sets up LR and explains why Lightning is crystalized. That and it's the only satisfying conclusion to the Serah-Lightning dynamic in the game, XIII-2 is imo, very much a Noel and Caius story and sometimes it felt like Serah-looks-for-her-sister was pushed aside and never got a real ending. Also Com!Lightning is a powerhouse.
The coliseum battles are only for if you really really like the fighting, they are a bit overpriced and there isn't anything to them except for one decent challenge, and none of them are must have monsters (although Lightning makes a good RAV). Even Snow's, which has some interaction, really is completely miss-able and contributes nothing. Also, besides Lightning-Amador and Omega, they get incredibly hard and start requiring you to max out your monsters and get the right infusions.
I liked them because they were challenging, I didn't think XIII-2 had the same amount of difficulty in XIII, and I wanted a reason to use my OPd monsters.
Sazh's is also plot bare and overpriced, and only got him because I really like Sazh and it's great to see him again. Also it's only really useful for if you are just starting out a new game, because you can get a lot of easy casino points there. Also Chrno Bind is my shit.
Weapons are downright useless as they are only lesser, stat flipped versions of the game (ie, Noel's weapons focus on magic, Serah's on strength- one focuses on chain bonuses and the other on speed but there are better chain bonus/speed weapons ingame).
Costumes aren't for everyone although you might want to get the "Enforcer" as its free and looks much better than what Serah is wearing. Also Mog... because he's got a panda mog in it. And pandas area always an easy buy for me.
