Yes, the London Olympics 2012
What events in particular are you looking forward to? For me, definitely:
- the 100m sprint. I want to see if Usain Bolt can improve his time, but I bet that doesn't happen. Just watched a video about him, and apparently his reaction time is incredibly slow. He could probably easily breach the 9 second mark if he had average reaction speeds. I think Michael Johnson also says he has sloppy technique. Actually, I would rather exist in the alternate universe where Usain Bolt does everything right, and watch that.
- volleyball (indoor and out). I have a vested interest in volleyball, playing it myself, so I don't really have much more of a reason than that, except viewing women in tight pants </creeper> j/k. You do it too, ladies. Ah, science.
- velodrome events. I just find watching this to be gripping television.
- swimming events, mainly to see Michael Phelps get his arrogant ass handed to him.
That's all I got now, besides one observation. I think we've come near that time where records will be hard to break unless genetic freaks happen to make an appearance. There is nothing normal or average about many athletes. The best hurdler is just the right height for example, you can't train for height. The best pole vaulter has unusually long arms, you can't train for long arms, etc. We're even getting people who produce heightened amounts of performance enhancing chemicals naturally.
Once games commence, I guess this can become overall discussion thread for it too, etc.
Just so you don't think I'm talking about 1908 or 1948.
