Music regrets

I regret not seeing Isis and Wolves in the Throne Room when they came here. Isis never played here again before their breakup and Wolves in the Throne Room have indicated they may not play metal ever again.

I also regret dropping the piano. I could probably start up again, but it's sort of a use-it-or-lose-it skill so it would be pretty frustrating.

I'll never be able to see Michael Jackson live. :(

My brother and sister went to a gig. They didn't take me with them because I was still too small. :@

- Liking Korn when I was an angsty teenager.
- Liking Limp Bizkit when I was an angsty teenager.
- Not going to the O2 arena for the Led Zeppelin concert, when I was living in the UK. Mind you, I recall the tickets were snapped up almost as instantaneously as they were released =p.
- Not learning guitar sooner / not having the interest to do so until the Rocksmith game made learning guitar actually interesting.

Missing out on the opportunity to see a Prince concert.

Ghost- are you talking about the reunion concert Led did in 2007? Weren't those tickets acquired via a lottery? So you couldn't just buy then? Gosh, I wish I'd been able to go to that...I would have sobbed the whole time, methinks.

1) That I didnt spend enough time practicing guitar as a teenager. I can bang out a few chords and scales, but I would love to be able to do all that "noodling" stuff. My dad teaches guitar so theres no excuse really. Maybe one day ill go back to it.... won't be the same though.

2) ditto the piano, except my dad doesn't teach that, he probably could have found someone to give me cheap/free lessons. A wasted opportunity, I shouldn't beat myself up too much I guess, I was only young. My parents got rid of the piano cos it needed repairs and was going to be expensive to fix, if id, expressed an interest they probably wouldnt have chucked it.

3). Worrying about what other people thought of my musical tastes. Looking back I pretended to like a lot of shitty pop bands just to fit in with dickheads. I grew out of that by age 14 but still...

I went to a Backstreet Boys concert.
At 17.
That's like five years too late.

(It was an interesting experience though)

I REGRET NOTHING.

Most of my favourite bands broke up before I was born, but there's nothing I can do about that. In some cases, their members have continued touring, either on their own or as part of a "reunion". But their concerts are usually horrendously overpriced, and their performances are usually a shadow of what they once were. Case in point: I could have gone to see Paul McCartney play in Helsinki last year, but it would have cost me something like 70€ for a cheap seat, and well in excess of 100€ to be anywhere near the front. I've never seen any of the Beatles in concert, but judging by his performance at the Jubilee and Olympics later on in the year, I'm glad I kept my money. I've met him in person, and that's more than most Beatles fans can say, so I'm happy enough.

Never got a chance to take piano lessons after my grandparents bought me a keyboard 9 years ago. :( I've been thinking lately that since I still have it I should just teach myself how to play if the keyboard still works that is.

Never gonna be able to see Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston or Queen live.

My other regret is that nobody I know really shares my music tastes so I've nobody to go to gigs with and none of the bands I like (assuming they are still together/alive) ever play in my hometown.

Still kind of regret not seeing Goldfrapp when they played here a few years ago, but apparently she walked off stage for a bit because of flash photography (she asked people to stop cos it was distracting but some douchebags didn't) so it would have been awkward. :sadpanda:

I regret of seeing Nasum and Dissection not more often when I had the chance. I regret getting into Death too late. (Was old enough to see the real thing live) I regret I'll never have the powers to ressurrect Frank Zappa from the grave.

Luckily Prince is still active, so you still have chance (you lucky American you). I went to see him a year and a half ago, and he is great, so don't miss any more oportunities!

My regret? Not rehearsing enough to play the violin... I mean I still play it, but I could be much better if I took more time to practise.

Off at a tangent here, but I'm quite envious of the older generations, like they had pretty much fuck all to do in the evenings so it was a great way to occupy their time learning an instrument. Most of the guitarists I admire, I read interviews and they basically say they'd get home from school and go up to their room and practise for hours and hours.

These days there are just too many distractions, even when I was younger, though we didn't have the internet yet there was too much crap on TV, or the lure of 'socialising' (or in my peers case, getting drunk on street corners)

/excuses.

WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN
- Liking Korn when I was an angsty teenager.
- Liking Limp Bizkit when I was an angsty teenager.

Went through the same phase when I was in third grade :wacky:

Looking back it's kinda embarrassing, but if I didn't spend all day waiting for their songs to play in the rock radio station, I wouldn't have discovered Trent Reznor, Nirvana and all the other bands I still listen to up to this day. So..

I still like Korn. Not sure about the dubstep direction their last album went in, but it was an interesting detraction.

I regret selling my guitar because my brothers mercilessly took the piss out of how shit I was. Only partial regret though, I have my beautiful Epiphone and now I'm enjoying being derpy and twanging and strumming like a n00b. Just ain't gonna bust out any hard-rocking riffs anytime soon. :monster:

As for gigs, I've seen some amazing live bands, and I've seen some shit ones. Even though I know it'll be full of teenagers, I'm still kicking myself for not buying Don Broco tickets for next Wednesday's gig as soon as they were released. They're going to be big, but they'll get tagged as teenybopper rock. Le sigh.
