But who is going to buy it? Cos you can get most of those games already on the virtual console, or just emulate them for nothing :monster:

But $60 seems raisinable I guess.

It's a tiny, adorable little Nintendo that fits in the palm of your hand. :glomp: Who the hell wouldn't buy it?

I wonder what's in it. My money is on a Raspery pi of some sort :monster:

Heres hoping 15 minutes after it comes out it gets cracked open and it becomes incredibly easy to load in more games. 60$ isn't that bad of a deal for a Nes game player with a hdmi port and a free controller. If you can root it so that you can load more games into it that's a really good value.

If it could still accept cartridges, I'd be on board.

I wouldn't dismiss it entirely. I have a little mini-Sega Genesis with pre-loaded games that can play the original cartridges. I forget who actually made it, but the packaging was very similar to what's show on the website.

It's basically a Raspberry with preloaded shit, don't expect anything extra. On that note though, you can get Raspberries with pre-programmed emulators and controllers and shit already, on the fringes of legality, but they're (IIRC) a bit more expensive than this one.

Main problem with this one will probably be the length of the cable between the controller and the device.

I do think that Nintendo would strike gold if they would have emulator apps for most of their consoles on every mobile device + tv set-top wossnames like the apple TV and shit. Sell games for the average in-app purchase ($1), and they'd keep making loads of monies off of games some random dude made 30 years ago.

Yeah true. I've always wanted to hook my tv up with a pc running XBMC front loaded and just filled to the brim with emulators and roms/iso's. The big problem with that is getting all the appropriate USB dongle adapter things for old school controllers etc , or better yet building them into the pc itself so that its always plugged into the various controller types.
That and pulling my old PC out of the closet sounds like a chore. (Seriously though look up rigs set up like this on youtube they are so cool)

If Nintendo would just re-release classics in the way you suggested it would totally be a homerun. I'd love to have these games just loaded into my TV or one of my more convenient devices that's hooked up into said tv.

edit:

Here is an example of a cool set up. Though in my fictional ROM rig player thing that I always wanted to make it would use original controllers as mapping stuff for say a N64 or Gamecube to a PS3/4 controller is a nightmare lol.

I am disappoint.

Amazon crapped out almost as soon as orders went live. I had the option to add to cart come up, and it wouldn't add it. Now the entire page is borked and not loading anything at all. :(

No one else seems to be taking online orders, so I guess I'll slink into Best Buy or GameStop on the way home from work and see if they've got any.

IIRC its currently sold out as fuck lol.

It's being resold currently for a ridiculous premium as per usual.

On that note, I'm wondering "what took them so long". They could make huge monies if they did this same thing for all of their console, or even if they just released an official NES / GB / GBA emulator for mobile devices, selling games as in-app purchases. Nintendo has a huge stack of good games, they're missing out on billions if they just leave them on the shelf.

(also again I should've bought Nintendo shares :monster: )

(edit: actually I can't, boo)

I think they may have done it as a bridge into their new console generation to remind people of why they loved Nintendo so much in the past.

With how incredibly lack luster and forgettable the Wii U was dropping an affordable console filled to the brim with the classics a year before their next big console comes out can do a lot of creating goodwill and hype around their products.

In effect I see it having a similar role as Pokemon Go in relation to the Sun and Moon Generation. Pokemon Go came and went, but it pulled back in a ton of people and now it's no surprise Sun and Moon is the highest pre-ordered Pokemon generation of all time.

I'd be much more likely to buy a SNES Mini than a NES Mini. I'm too young to have ever played a NES so the nostalgia factor is lost on me. I didn't own a SNES either but my best friend did so I got to play it a lot.

Super Mario World and Super Metroid would be my only must-haves. As much as I love Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI (IV and V are good too, just not in the same league), I have newer, easier, better ways of playing them, like the excellent Chrono Trigger DS port.

@Cthulhu: Not EXACTLY what I meant, lol.

Only reason I'm not in to this quite yet is because they don't have Super Dodgeball (Technos Kunio game).
