Yeah but I'm all about that 80's leotard. I used to be Cheetara when we played Thundercats at school...
I guess they've got to update her look...be more politically correct, what with the millenium and all
Didn't catch the episode (and forgot to DVR shit AGAIN) but quality-wise it strikes me as being the same upgrade that the 2003 Masters of the Universe was.
Lion-O was more whiny than I remember, but I guess he had to go through the teen angst phase before becoming awesome.
Anyways, the premier was okay. It seemed fairly standard, though, considering the shows that are made available to us these days.
That being said, I can see why it would be amazing looking through nostalgia glasses.
...He wasn't whiny AT ALL. He had one moment where he doubted himself because of what happened with his father and the lizard men, and it didn't last long before he jumped into the fray to help save the city.
There was nothing in there that constituted as angst. Hell he didn't even dwell on his father's death too long before he went after Mum-Ra.
The animation made available to us these days is largely garbage. Even the majority of anime is garbage moe shit and badly animated shonen garbage.
That isn't why I liked it at all. In fact I liked many of the changes because they were different.
Like Snarf. I fucking hated Snarf, and the background in the original TCs was incredibly sparse.
My bad, I guess it seemed he was whiny to me. Whatev.
I disagree with this completely
At least, in terms of animation made available to us these days being garbage
I didn't say that's why you liked it. I said I can see why it would be amazing through nostalgia glasses. Nowhere did I imply that's the only reason to like it.
Then you definition of whiny doesn't really match the actual definition of the word.
Well it is. Unless you have an example of something being better, most american animation is SHIT(not talking about 3d). The best 2d animation in recent years has come from the DC Animated films(which there are few) and a handful of Avatar episodes.
If we're talking about the animation available period through the massive library there is now, going back to before even the nineties, then yeah it's not nearly as good as the best animation I've see. That doesn't mean what's available here isn't great.
Nowhere did I say you meant that it was my reason for liking it. I simply said my piece regarding nostalgia.
Of course there were a few bits that gave me chills because of nostalgia, there's no getting around that.
Or you perceive whiny differently than I do. Not entirely unlikely.
I was referring to animation quality, and I wasn't referring to American as much as world-wide. But I suppose that's easy enough to confuse, I didn't exactly clarify.
I mostly meant around the last three or so years.
I think that you think I'm saying this is a massive pile of shit. I don't think that. I said it was average, but it doesn't mean average isn't good. I enjoyed it well enough.
Except not applicable.
Like I said, even worldwide animation quality is still waning.
Like?
These days, what's average isn't very good.
Waning compared to?
Should I really give a list? How many examples would you like? I mean, I guess as far as animation quality goes, I enjoy the look that Du-ra-ra-whatever the fuck and Darker Than Black, but even those have their down moments. And yeah, I know, Blah-anime-blah. I don't like to list anime when listing animation quality, but certain studios have beautiful stuff. Those two that I said are definitely not top of the line stuff, just shows I can remember off the top of my head.
