I have not progressed particularly far in this game. Like the original, it takes a little while to really get going, accelerating slowly into the action. I hope, like the original, that once it accelerates it keeps its momentum.

The basic plot- It's been 9 months since the last time anyone saw Amaterasu. Apparently there was a LOT of timeskip in the last game, since Susano and Kushi have a son together. Who can walk and talk and basically be his father in miniature. If you have seen the original version credits, he's the kid you see with the sword at the end.

In any case, the game begins with Issun doing his Celestial Envoy thing and throwing drawings everywhere. EVERYWHERE.

Anyways, demons appear, oh noes! But a white dog with red markings and a mirror on its back appears. No, not Amaterasu, her son, affectionately labeled Chibiterasu by Issun and Sakuya. Later labeled mutt.

Anyways, Issun says 'Let's go find Sakuya,' so he and Chibi find her, only for her to be struck by lightning, requiring repair, a la the first game. After this, she hands Chibi his task and tells Issun he's not allowed to join Chibi, so Chibi needs to find a new ally. This comes in the form of Kuni, Susano's kid, who rides on Chibi's back and helps him in battle and in puzzles. Unlike in the original, Chibi can use his instrument at all times, not just the battle cage, and this helps, because enemies can hit him at all times too. And Kuni, if he's not riding Chibi.

The brush strokes... well, I've wanted an Okami DS game because honesty, it's the perfect medium for the brush strokes, and thus far, it does not dissapoint.
While I only have Sun, Restore, Cut, and "Lead Kuni" brush techs thus far, the controls for them are very simple. Unlike Ammy, Chibi has a time limit and does not regen ink, which adds a decent amount of difficulty to the much simplified task of drawing in battle or tracing the outlines of the constellation (Dotting would be WAY to easy).

I can't wait til I find a blockhead.

Like I said, I haven't gotten too far yet. I'll post word later on my more thought out response.

I preordered this but with all my other games haven't played it yet. I too was excited when I heard Okami and DS put together.

The stylus I got with it is so nice too. <3
