Pixel art help, anyone?

Yeah so I'm trying to get into making those tiny adorable anime sprites people sometimes use. i.e.

. Any programs you recommend? I use Photoshop CS for pretty much anythign I do.

Any good tutorials out there?


Anyways I tried making a Cloud sprite from scratch:

Hmmm, I don't know any good sprite tutorials but that Cloud sprite sure is cute!

The only bit of real criticism I have is that his hair doesn't stand out from his skin. (Well, at least on my screen.) They're both a little on the bright side, so you should darken the hair color a little or add some shading.

Shade the hair. And it's adorable.

Only bit of advice I could give is to get a good look at all the little sprites you see -- like, copy paste them into Paint and zoom up close to see the intricacies -- and keep making your own. Practice in line with exposure works wonders You'll develop style and skill as you go.

Photoshop is probably the best program to use. And if you're comfortable with it, even better.
