Point of the HP<<>>MP Materia?

Yeah, in the what, near 15 years playing this game, I can't really think of any viable strategies of using this thing. Sure, I get the potential to have 9999 MP, (which to me is like having 9999 packets of ketchup or something), but at the same time I can't have any more than 999 HP, which lasts me what, one hit from the weakest enemy from that point on?

So yeah, I'm not saying its worthless, but can anyone share some strats in using this thing?

You're forgetting about the Shield materia. The only materia that allows a character to be completely impervious to attacks for a brief amount of time. It has a ridiculous MP cost, but with 9999 MP you can cast it repeatedly and spam any spell you so choose.

So if you do that, you can get around having only 999 HP.

You have to mater Shield though. Which takes an extremely long time.

Oh that's why shield never did anything for me, I never mastered it. But except for that I always wondered the point of this materia too XD My characters always die so quickly with it.

Well I sure could have used that mastered shiled when fighting Ruby Weapon.. but I still got emerald to go so...

Not many people invest in Shield because initially, its utterly useless :monster:

But when mastered, it is the best defensive spell in the game. Shield-All is just..invaluable if you're gonna do a low level WEAPON challenge or something.

I should start a new game. It's kinda pointless to know this now that I've beaten Ruby... I just got Emerald to go.

Just curious, who would you say is harder? Ruby or Emerald?

Ruby, definitely. Ruby just has so many nasty tricks and attacks, that its just...its just a lot more of a pain.

Emerald deals the highest amount of raw damage, but Ruby's ability to take away your party members, inflict status effects, and then counter every castnig of Knights of the Round with an extremely high level Ultima, is just..its nasty. So much shit could go wrong if you're not careful.

Ruby's not Ozma level in terms of its broken and cheapness, but its close.

Well I just killed two of the party members before I went in there and let Cloud handle the rest. First time I ever beat it too, I wasn't able to get some of the materia before because FFVII doesn't run well on XP and I had problems with crashes.

But yeah I got lucky because Cloud was somehow able to avoid every other Ultima... seriously, how do you MISS with Ultima? :monster:

But yeah thanks for the tips anyway.

W-Summon Hades and KOTR
Link Hades to Quadra.
KOTR to HP absorb.
Mime, Counter Mime.
The rest as you like, but no counterattack materia. Final attack Pheonix IF YOU MUST, but pfeh.
Ribbon if you must.
Summon once.
Select mime.
If you want, you can tape down 'confirm' and leave.
Or take out the Hades summon, since KOTR-HP Abs tops to full HP anyways.

I did W-summon KoTR attached to HP absorb. Also had a ribbon on. Then I just got lucky that Cloud avoided every other ultima

DrakeClawfang

The Wanderer of Time
Just for lawls I used it to give Red XIII 9999 MP, since his ultimate weapon does more dmg the more MP he has. He went over the damage counter and did like, 3000 and some spare change. I was half-hoping a Death Penalty-type instant kill, but no.

It really depends on how much effort and use you put into materia.

If you really love slinging spells, and mastered Ultima, Shield, Knights of the Round, Contain, and the like, you can be a serious spell slinging powerhouse. Just bear in mind you NEED Shield to be mastered and to keep it up in order to remain relatively invincible. And you have to have Shield mastered in order to gain its ultimate effects.

You really *don't* need HP <<>>MP to beat WEAPON or even Sephiroth. It's more like a neat, gimmick challenge. Kinda like how they included the Cursed Ring early in CC to make the game even more difficult.

Emerald.
I only beat Ruby with Cloud...because my party got swallowed by sand.
Emerald you need to have the underwater materia and kinda hope for All Lucky 7's,but when it happens is just greaaaat :awesome:

I would say emerald is hardest it is just ruby can be beaten by an easy trick...

But difficulty mod I am making will sort all these problems with the game out and give these items the purpose they need :) If they ever do remake VII they should give a difficulty setting and use these items to fullest potential.

You don't have to HOPE for AL7, you know.

Just give everyone a total of two materia - HP Plus (everyone gets this), and then spread out Underwater, Master Magic, and Master Summon (or whatever, really - doesn't matter for the other two characters). Go into battle.

Air Tam Storm is based on the number of materia a character has equipped - 1111 HP each. At 9999 HP, 2222 sends you straight to All Lucky 7's and you attack the shit out of Emerald until it dies.

What about Added Cut? I've never known what it does because I've never been able to find it (you get it on the Great Glacier).
Not Added Effect, not 2x Cut, Added Cut... It's a support materia...anyone know?

I think this one adds on an attack after performing whatever is linked.

I know he uses Air Tam Storm based on the number of materia you have.Lucky 7's is a HUGE help.

Yeah. That's why Underwater + HP Plus to max out HP for auto AL7 = win :P

It's probably faster than the W-Summon KotR method, but it's less of a challenge and more boring =/
