So they're releasing the original games on virtual console for 3DS/2DS (finally) and there are some special edition consoles coming out with the game/games preinstalled.

The originals are the only Pokemon games I ever played to any real extent. Remember playing Blue and Red (with blue being my "real" play through). And restarting Red 3 time to trade my self the other 2 starters, and the the Red exclusive Pokemon. Was one of the few times being a pack-rat ever helped me out, as I got a GB Pocket, but kept my old original GB, still have both today too LOL.

Later I was given a copy of Yellow, but I never actually played it. I was rather burned out on the series at that point. I should dig that out.

I am somewhat curious how the trading will work on the VC versions, and will you be able to trade with yourself with only one system?

I can't believe it's been 20 years since Pokemon first came out. The first game I've ever played in the Pokemon franchise was Pokemon Stadium with my sister, and a bit of Pokemon yellow(never got the chance to finish it).

Go figure. 2012 was the 20th Anniversary of Sailor Moon, this year is the 20th Anniversary of Pokemon, and next year in 2017, is the 20th Anniversary of Final Fantasy VII. I can't believe how fast time flew, and it makes me feel old. I've heard rumors that the upcoming Pokemon film(the 19th one) will be the last film of the franchise.

Surprised they have not done this already; Nintendo is good at re-releasing the same thing 20 times over . I just want the pokemon games to be on the eshop on the wii u but they probably never will be because its such a huge money pool

Same story with me as with AbortedJ; was impressed with a cousin having it on a gameboy (OH WOW REAL GAMEBOY YO WOW!11one), was able to play it on an emulator some time later; played the shit out of it, much excite, wow. Not sure if I ever made it to the end; at one point during that period I just became very sick, and I suspected playing the game as intensively as I did had something to do with it.

my neighbor and I had gameshark and and hacked out our level 272 alakazams to one hit everything with scratch. Gamelink cable.. transfer pak to stadium in 64.. this shit was all ahead of its time

I remember the day I bought my copy of Blue. Went do with a group of friends. Four of us in total. Two of them seemed dead set on Red, so that left myself and the other guy getting Blue. I forget why they were so intent on Red. I know there was something like a 20 Pokemon difference, but I don't recall any real advantage one way or the other.

I played the hell out of Red on Gameboy Color - which was my first ever video game purchase with my own money. I later beat everything in Gold, though I didn't quite play it to the extent I did Red.

Then I didn't touch Pokemon again for a long time. After modding my PSP I played an emulated copy of Emerald that took me many years to get through. When I got a DS I got Heartgold which I think I have like 6 badges in. And I beat Y last year.

Definitely going to buy the Pikachu 2DS and put it right next to my Pikachu 3DS XL.

Having so many doctor's appointments lately I dug out my almost complete unused copy of Yellow. As one does need something to pass the time in waiting rooms. Started it Yesterday while waiting for an x-ray. Sadly the "start" button on the old Gameboy Color is rather unresponsive. Wonder if Nintendo still repairs these.

I had played Yellow before Red or Blue. I really wanted any of the latter games after my friend showed me MissingNo. - it is said to be possible in Pokemon Yellow, though not by the same method (and, supposedly, is just some extension of the Mew glitch).

Think I'll play Yellow again too. It's been over a decade, and that's just not acceptable :P
Besides, in the original saved file [shared among me and my two brothers] my younger brother overwrote Pikachu's "Thunder" ability, which was its best, for something like "Tail Whip"!

According to the website, they're giving out a mythical pokemon every month this year starting with Mew next month and Celebi in March, etc. I hope it runs in the UK.

Btw, the red blue and yellow versions released on the virtual console have trade and pokemon bank support for the 3DS, meaning you can catch Pokémon in the originals and trade them over to the 3DS games :monster:

I got my pre-order email and it was processing today, meaning I'm probably not going to get my Pikachu 2DS until Monday. I've never had problems with GAME, but it only took until I pointed out to them that my money hadn't been taken for them to take action. Severely disappointed, I was actually going to spend the majority of the weekend as a antisocial sod playing it. :/

There isn't one in close proximity where I live, the nearest one is like half an hour away, plus it'd be quite a pain in the arse to cancel it and try to get the money back, as it's been shipped.

Yeah, I saw the trailer about ten or so minutes ago. While I am a little disappointed that Pokemon Z only exists in the anime world, looks like Ash Ketchum will be visiting yet another region next year, lol.

They never run out of ideas for Pokemon, do they?
