If we have a Sephiroth club, then we must have one for Angeal. Don't ask me about the logic of it, just go with it.

Standard club rules, no bashing, flaming, spamming ect.

So Angeal, for those who've yet to lay hands on CC (and why haven't you?) is a SOLDIER First Class. He's the initial owner of the Buster Sword, Sephiroth and Genesis' friend, and Zack's mentor. He's also the only character with mako/experimental cell stuff in his system that has facial hair. He has a very strong moral base and his loyalty is unmatched, in other words the model of who Zack would be.

The club was originally called A New Angel on ACF, but I think Pride and Dreams just fits better. Feel free to post things of Angeal here, pics, fics, and the like, just be sure to keep it appropriate, anything not should be PMed to those who wish to see it.

And most importantly, have fun, and celebrate the warrior that is Angeal!

Im in! Angeal is one of my favorite FFVII characters.
Its a pity hes not very popular among the fans :-\
It's cause he's hard to ship. And I wish that was a joke.

I thought he was interesting and I enjoyed his friendship with Zack. He was a good "father away from home" figure.

Yeah, I guess its because he`s not a "pretty boy"... I still think he was quite handsome *blush* Def the best looking guy among the OWA.

Ooo, let me in. ;D

Angeal is such an amazing character. He acted the total opposite of what I imagined him to be before the game came out. I always thought he was more... the Sephiroth type, quiet, cold, reserved, but can make a good crack every now and again. I was pleasantly surprised when he had a personality that could only be described as his own.

I liked that he wasn't a pretty boy! That's something else that makes him unique. He kind of reminded me of how Reeve looks. And IMHO, Reeve is sexy. =D

Oh, he's handsome, just not pretty boy as was said. His personality as well doesn't seem like the "easy to ship" type. Either way, I was just pointing it out cause it's a shame really. He is more important to Zack himself than Genesis or Sephiroth, but those sexymen get all the attention. Which reminds me I should make a red leather club at some point if someone doesn't beat me to it...

I would like to join! :) Angeal was the epitome of what a soldier (real or fantasy) should be; someone who believed in doing good and then going out and doing it. Sadly, yes, he was on the wrong side, and sadly he felt death was the way to fix things once he knew the truth - but still, he was a great moral example of a fighter.

I felt at times that Angeal had actually wandered into the wrong game by accident. The idealist and poet in me identifies with him (plus he's the only FF character to have a chin anything like my own XD).

Yes he did initially seem hard to ship, but I got so attached to him I started a whole series of fics about him.

I pretty much stated why I like Angeal in the founding post, but what I don't understand is why there isn't an Angeal plushie. I've seen a Genesis plushie but I want an Angeal one! That said though I have a wall scroll of him now in the First Class Fun scene. (For those who've not seen this part, look it up on youtube. Or SilentTweak.)

Question for the group, why doesn't Angeal ever use his materia slots on the Buster Sword? Discuss!

Yeah. That was really sad; of all the creatures that were experimented on, only that Guard Hound really seemed to inherit Angeal's kindness and compassion. :)

I think, while materia and the magic it calls forth is a common occurance and something (most?) everyone has basic knowledge of, in that world, not everyone knows how to use and/or uses it. Remember in the original game (though it could have been easily an in-game manual prompt), Barrett didn't know how to use materia. So, in this, I just wonder if Angeal relied on his own strength and didn't enhance it with such; of course, being someone who valued saving things for when they are absolutely necessary, he possibly keeps them elsewhere (in armor or safely kept away). It could be an explaination.

Well, Angeal did like big dogs so I guess part of him can easly cope for being a dog like monster. I hope they make a PA of it^_^

True - and Guard Hounds and their cousins are definitely - well - like big dogs, lions, lion-dog thingies. :P lol! The bigger the dog the cuter he or she is, according to Angeal; and greater the hassle, in love and duty.

Yes, a Play Arts would be wonderful! I actually want to get the Shadow Creeper from Advent Children; it also looked like a big demon-dog to me. Even in the script it mentions 'dog like' creatures which are the Shadow Creepers.

Cool sephypaine that makes sense!

As to the Guard Hound Angeal clone, I wrote a fic where Angeal adopted the clone as a pet. He named it Amistad which means 'friend'. I cried for about five minutes when he died. Because he protected Cloud while Zack and Genesis fought.

Speaking of Genesis, I get the feeling that Genesis dragged Angeal into his schemes when they were younger, like stealing stupid apples and stuff. Angeal seems like he's the one who got dragged along because he trusted Genesis, which would also give one of the points at which he started to develop his sense of responsibility.

I know the official translation is dumb apple, but stupid apple sounds cooler to me.
Yeah, what she said. :)

Mind you, to be entirely honest, I can't remember Zack making use of them, either. I know Cloud *does*, but he doesn't know/remember the legacy of the sword at the time.

Hmm, I can't remember where I read it, or the exact wording, but there's some quote that says that "honour is a luxury for the gentry, but a necessity for porters". Angeal, who was from more humble origins than his fellow SOLDIER First Classes, seemed far more interested in honour than either Genesis or Sephiroth.

Don't get me wrong, the other two act to their own senses of justice and fairness while they're with SOLDIER, but only Angeal seems to put any store in honour, even doing what any normal person would consider insane and intervene in a duel between Seph and Genesis!

(I prefer calling them "Banora White's". :P)

Yeah Angeal sometimes does tend to move towards extremes when pride comes into play. Actually in the boss fight all his moves come out as the names as the Seven Deadly Sins. I think the one that causes the most problems is the one based around Pride.

You're right about Angeal having a more humble origin. He came from a poor family where as Genesis had a richer family, and Sephiroth had Hojo *kills Hojo*. But how a person grows up affects their views on the world. So his determination and hard work ethic probably came from there too.

I like stupid apple because then I can call people Baka Ringo when they act like idiots.

"...and Sephiroth had Hojo *kills Hojo*." Too funny! ;D ;D ;D

With Sephiroth, I believe his upbringing was probably greatly steared towards fighting, at least when he started to show signs of a unique and/or enhanced ability. Honor for all intents and purposes for him would have been doing his best for Shinra's sake and only Shinra's sake. And, yeah, he had Hojo...

It can only be speculation, but I would not fully say Sephiroth's childhood was normal. I think he had interaction with other children, perhaps moreso through education, and I'm sure that he had a nanny - at the very least when he was an infant through to toddler, but I am also sure Shinra was in his life big time. I have other thoughts too - like boarding school and/or he was raised in a 'regular family' atmosphere until a certain (young) age, but everything's speculation. I wish they'd think that out and tell us. :P

As for the other two, I think they held regular lives all through; I believe that finding out about their creation was probably harder on them. Still... it's how one handles the 'stuff' they have, their strengths and weaknesses therein, not the outside stressor itself that can cause one to crack.

In this, I don't believe Angeal 'cracked' where Genesis and Sephiroth did. I believe he couldn't live with himself, and felt his death was the only way around these problems - I don't believe it was just one subject he wanted to die over, either. Of course, in this world, that would all still be considered 'depression.' At least in a catch-all sense. His best friend, and technically, in at least two ways, a brother to him, has gone wild with ideals and procedures that are inhuman as well as inhumane. This same friend of his and himself were products of an experiment, and thus proclaimed 'failures' because they did not exhibit *at birth* the desired outcomes... (* Note, can anyone else guess who probably 'rated' the projects and said projects' outcomes? ::) )

I think 'honor' is a difficult thing to define because it all depends on the person, their family, their culture - there's a lot going into it. I really don't even get Angeal's sense of honor, but then... Shinra fooled a lot of great and not-so-great people. :-X

I believed Angeal "crack" but it just wasn't on the same level as Sephiroth or an over compulive as Genesis.

Angeal choice to die and forced Zack to kill him.

Aww, I'm glad there is some activity in this thread. I'm not too big of an Angeal fan myself, but I do like him more than Genesis, and he's at leaston par with Sephiroth in my books. :monster:

That actually makes sense. I remember being slightly confused when I got to that part of the game. "I stole some apples, but I still kept my honour... because the rich man's son was my friend..."

Jeez Angeal I don't really get how that's honourable but ok :monster: but yeah, that definitely puts it in a better perspective. I can't say I've really paid much thought to the whole Angeal/Genesis relationship, other than it always seemed to me that they had a closer relationship with eachother than either did with Sephiroth.

Hey, I found that quote. Kamui won't be surprised to hear it's a GK Chesterton quote. Anyway, I was pretty damn close. Here's the true quote:

"Honour is a luxury for aristocrats, but it is a necessity for hall porters."

Y'know, I didn't realise that his attacks as Penance (which, also, by-the-by, is the name of a secret boss in FFX) were named after the Seven Deadly Sins. I think I was too busy surviving at the time. And swearing under my breath.

Hmm, on to what Ari was saying... both Sephiroth and Genesis lost their sanity and gave into (what may have been latent) psychoses. Angeal, however, stayed (relatively) sane. I think it speaks volumes about his personality and frame of mind at the time that, whereas Genesis imprinted himself on warriors, Angeal chose to imprint his genetics on monsters.

Also, Genesis and Sephiroth (after their initial breakdowns) came to view theirselves as superior lifeforms, while Angeal wanted to return to being human.

...Baka ringo makes me think you're insulting a Beatle... who warns people with "peace and love"... :P
