With update 1.80 Vita owners are now able to play PSOne classics. There are only 9 titles available currently in the US, but there are 129 available in the EU. I have no idea why this is the case.
If you've already bought a PSOne classic for the PS3 or PSP from the PSN store, it's free to download. Final Fantasies V - IX are available in the EU.

What's also interesting is that if you downloaded any of them free as part of a promotion (like I did with all of my PSOne classics) then they're also free on the Vita. WOOOOOO.
I tested this out a bit myself last night - downloaded Crash Bandicoot 3, Rayman and Resident Evil 2 and they look really nice on the Vita screen. Happy classic gaming! (again).
