New game from the guys that made Diablos and Torchlights 1 & 2. It's a space sim that's not about fighters for a change, but battleships, frigates, destroyers, and dreadnoughts. In other words, my kinda space sim.

Yes. Please. More detailed writeup here.

pew pew internet spaceships. IDK, those credits (we maek diablo LOL) don't really sell a game for me anymore, :monster:. It means there's repetitive gameplay based on random loot drops and not a lot of story or compelling graphics or whatnot. I'm not seeing much interesting gameplay either, :monster:

Because so few games do space naval combat well? Im sick of fighters.

And Torchlight II was bitchin, though it was the trailer and desciption that interested me more than the credits.

Eve Online does, to the point where you're abstracted away from the fight via a simple overview and a commander telling you who to shoot, :wacky:. IDK what you mean by space naval combat though, and I haven't played a proper space fighter since... idk, the era of Wing Commander and Descent Freespace. Oh, I tried Star Citizen, which has the potential to be the next big thing there, but at the time (few weeks ago) it was rather underwhelming gameplay-wise, :monster:

I tried to play Torchlight (1 and 2) a few times, but idk, it didn't stick.

So I have the game, and it's a blast. And though I haven't played long enough to say whether the gameplay is repetitive or not, you were wrong on all other counts. :monster: It is not based on random loot drops, there is a main story with voice acting and dialogue choices, and the graphics are awesome.

You still probably won't like it because it's not like Eve. You play on a 2D plane with broadside cannons, turrets, and missiles. You can take control of the turrets and missiles and program them with what to shoot at when you're not. There are economies to exploit and factions if you want to do all the shipping/smuggling/pirating/space sim stuff. But it's much more arcadey-style amount of action and combat. It's the perfect balance for me.

As I said above, I tire of space games so often being with fighter craft. (Star Citizen, Elite Dangerous, No Man's Sky being recent examples.) I loved Star Trek Bridge Commander and having a capital ship is more my style.

Also, obviously you can do this with any PC game, but the option is right on the main config menu to input your own music as well as an option to combine your music with the default. It already has a Firefly/blues/blues rock thing goin. So I loaded it with Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, George Thorogood, and ZZ Top songs and it is righteous :monster:
