Anyone else watching this? It could be described as The West Wing's much more cynical cousin, laden as it is with conspiracies, villainous politicians and outright murderous cover-ups.
The show centres around an agency run by Olivia Pope, rare in television shows for being a black female protagonist, although the show is more of an ensemble cast. Every single one of the cast members is hiding many deep, dark secrets, from Quinn Perkins who has taken another identity after being framed for the firebombing of her previous office, to Huck (no last name given) who has a troubled past as a torturer for "the Agency" (most likely the CIA or the NSA, but it's never identified which), to Abby Whelan's flight from her ex-husband (an unidentified powerful politician who apparently domestically abused her). It's notable as one of the few shows that doesn't handle women's and minority issues completely terribly, although as it's the creation of Shonda Rhimes of Grey's Anatomy fame this probably doesn't come as much of a surprise. It's also managed to juggle a thoroughly impressive number of labyrinthine plots rather skilfully.
Also the first season starred Henry Ian Cusick of Lost fame, although he was written off the show without much fanfare for the second season (I think it was handwaved as him moving to another city with his new wife).
If anyone else here watches this we can discuss what's going on. If not the first season may be on Netflix.
