Shera and Cid=Bangin'?

At the time of FFVII, are Shera and Cid fuck buddies or is she just his live in maid?

ALSO

I'm absolutely sure this question has been asked before, but recently it was my brother who spurred me to ask it again; Why does Rufus want or need Cid's Tiny Bronco when they have an entire airforce worth of planes and helicopters?

Cid and Shera have a deep and powerful bond. She tried to sacrifice her life to save his, he then sacrificed his dreams to save her, now he verbally abuses her every chance he gets but deep down he really, really needs her, and she knows this, which is why she puts up with all his crap. He badmouths her to total strangers, she makes excuses for him, and when she's finally proved right, she hardly rubs his nose in it at all. Also they are obviously sleeping together. Doesn't he marry her later, like in case of Barret or something?

As video game couples go, they seem quite realistic.

For what I understood when I first played, Shera was a sort of housemaid for Cid. Maybe the creators wanted to implicate something deeper but had to remove it for the same reasons that the Chocobo stable on the Highwind scene.

Later on the game I always like the change of Cid regarding Shera when the events proved her right, and she was kind enough to even spare him of a "I told you". And then I understood that they married, if I'm not mistaken.

As for the Tiny Bronco, I never understood that. Way to force a story event, I say.

My memory's a little rusty, but I believe Shinra was pursuing Sephiroth around the world in much the same manner as AVALANCH. Given that, if they ended up near Rocket Town & realized that they had to take to the air, it would make sense to commandeer the Tiny Bronco.

If the target is travelling on land, & all of your clues are down there, it doesn't make sense to travel by air, so that would explain why they didn't have a helicopter or something to begin with. Rufus could certainly call in for one, but it might be faster just to take the Tiny Bronco. And, since Sephiroth was searching for a materia that could destroy the world, time was of the essence.

It works if all of those assumptions are correct. Like I said, my memory is a bit fuzzy because I haven't played in at least a year, & who knows when I've last visited that part. I couldn't even tell you how Shinra found out about the Black Materia to begin with.

...except how did they GET there in the first place? If time is of the essence, then air > land.

As I said, if all of your clues are on the ground, it doesn't make much sense to travel by air. You can't talk to people from a helicopter. You can't examine terrain for signs that it's been traversed. They needed to be on the ground to find out that Sephiroth was headed for the Temple of the Ancients to begin with. Once they found that out, then they needed to take to the air.

In theory.

I always figured Shera got paid for her housekeeping services in hot angry sex. And I kind of got the vibe that they knew eachother before the Rocket incident. Maybe not dating, but had some kind of friendship, probably from working on the rocket together. I don't think he'd have been willing to live with someone he was that angry with unless he'd known them.

As for the Tiny Bronco thing, I actually have no idea. Maybe it would have taken too long to call in an airship. Or their helicopter wouldn't have been practical or didn't have the range for where they were going.

My theory -- Rufus just felt like being a dick because he could. :monster:

Yeah, but that's not how real life manhunts work, or should work, when you can do better. Shinra isn't AVALANCHE, they're a worldwide establishment. Instead of having the President and Friends driving around the highways and no contingency, there's no reason they couldn't have had search parties on the ground, by sea, AND the air, looking at more than one place at a time. They certainly have the resources.

There's one thing people are also forgetting.
The Tiny Bronco holds place for how many people to sit in? One? Two? If you don't wanna hang on to the plane's wings, that is.

So what? The president wanted to chase Sephiroth alone? Or just send one person?

No matter how you turn it, him getting the Tiny Bronco doesn't make the tiniest bit of sense.

I figured they were getting every available ShinRa air vehicle for the hunt- they didn't need that one, they just needed MORE.
That, or the T-bronco had cold weather gear prepped that most other ShinRa equip didn't bother with as standard, so it was faster to grab it than prep other vehicles.

My brother, an aerial engineering fanatic (which is what spurred him to ask the original question) gave the theory that perhaps they didn't need the plane ITSELF, but considering that Cid designed it, and there is apparently only that one, perhaps they needed it as a prototype to reverse engineer to base a fleet of similar planes to build later to assist in the search.

But then that begs the question of why didn't they just hire Cid back into the airforce?

OR

just thinking outside the box here

you fly around

AND THEN LAND

Gee, that hadn't occurred to me!

Not.

You wouldn't know where or when to land, because as I said, all of your clues are on the ground.

On the other hand, they do eventually get the Highwind involved. Maybe it was a last resort after the Tiny Bronco plan fell through?

There is a point in the multiple search parties thing...I really have no answer as to why the President chose to search for Sephiroth personally.

Step 1. Get a clue. (ohoho :monster:)
Step 2. Follow leads.
Step 3. When necessary to travel a great distance from Point A to Point B, fly.
Step 4a. Lead ends with successful resolution. Do victory pose. Proceed to Step 5.
Step 4b. Lead ends with another clue. Proceed to Step 1.
Step 5. PROFIT

Disregard that the clues were "Some douche in a black cape went North" and "I think I might have seen some weirdo in the Nibelheim Area."

With such vague clues, it's just far more efficient to search the ground, where he is. If you know that he is in fact at Point B, which is miles away, then yes, it makes sense to get an airship.

When that case did arise--the Temple of the Ancients--that is exactly what they did.

Rufus did have a helicopter, but that was ALL he had, remember. After you arrive in Costa del Sol a helicopter picks him up.

Rufus said:
We're going after Sephiroth. But it seems like we're been going
in the wrong direction. But now, we think we know where he's headed. But, we have to
cross the ocean. That's why we want your plane...

Helicopters can't cross the ocean. So they clearly didn't have a plane over on the western continent. I'm not sure why that would be, but I never saw an airstrip either.

Then go back to Junon and get one of the MANY aircraft available to him? There's no good reason for him to be traipsing around in a helicopter on a worldwide manhunt.

Tho if i recall correctly, Rufus asks about both the Highwind and the Airforce's Gelnika's and Heidegger tells him none are ready for god knows what reason, so the airplanes weren't an option at that stage.

Fly north.

Fly to Nibel. Roll out half the fucking military, because, let's be honest, it's gonna take at least that to handle Sephiroth.
