Instead of sidetracking other topics, this gets its own :monster:

So does anyone have questions or things to talk about?

In another topic, there was some talk on why Cosmos would get the heroes to gather the crystals, if that (according to the villains) is what caused her to be defeated by Chaos.

'Shade Impulse 2' has some insight on that. It's suggested that the reason she did this was that she had forseen her own death, and that's why she decided to give the last of her power, the crystals, to the heroes. The crystals are what allow the heroes' to remain after Cosmos is gone, and so they can defeat Chaos and end the whole repeating conflict against Cosmos and Chaos.

Golbeza was secretly in contact with Cosmos, and believes the heroes can defeat Chaos. I think (memory a bit fuzzy now) he also encourged Cosmos to go through with the crystal plan.

That's pretty awesome, and noble of Cosmos. In the end, it took her death and putting the reigns of history in the hands of man, to end the cycle.

....Kinda reminds me of another story, if put like that :monster:

I love the fact that this conflict spans the entire FF's and is like...one epic "crisis" for the series that pays homage to each FF in and of itself. And Chaos, the original baddie is the "god" of all baddies. Kinda fitting if you think about it.

Golby was a mole the entire time, eh? Doesn't surprise me in the slightest.

My big question WRT the cycle and rebirth of Cosmos and Chaos deals with Garland's role in it. Is he, like in FF1, sharded with a piece of Chaos which he himself sharded into himself after being thrown backwards in time and becoming Chaos, or is he being a dick without the corrupting influence to start things off?

Garland, under command of the Great Will, is tasked with managed Dissidia's world and making Cosmos and Chaos fight each. The goal was to create the ultimate weapon, Chaos. For some reason, this battle had to go on forever :monster:

I think it goes something like:
- Cosmos and Chaos' armies fight
- Cosmos (only?) is defeated and has a 'temporary' death
- Shinryu is summonded and clenses the world
- Everything starts again?

I don't know if 'Great Will'(??????) was an element in FFI or something.

You mean the ultimate weapon "Shinryu" right?

But wow...What is the Great Will, and why would Garland obey it?

And you said all the dimensions of FF were smashed together in Dissidia right?

No, I mean Chaos :monster: If I said Shinryu before, it's because I forgot something :monster:

There's not much information given on the GW, at least that I'm remembering now :monster:

Dissidia's world is made up elements drawn from different dimension, yeah.

Wait...

If Garland is given the task to make Cosmos and Chaos fight....how is he doing it to make the ultimate weapon...Chaos, when Chaos already exists? o.O

Harder, better, faster, stronger? :monster:

Okay, I understand. Kinda. But then..what is Shinryu for?

Clear everything away to start again?

Sephiroth mentions remembering seeing Shinryu before, so I assume it's something that always happens.

Cosmos loses, Shinryu is summoned, everything is destroyed and reset so everything can begin again?

This is me guessing now, though :monster:

What I said in the first post is pretty much all I know/remember :monster:

If it weren't for the crystals, the heroes would have disappeared when Cosmos died, because she was the one who summoned them.

The Emperor managed to find a crystal with the power of darkness, but I can't remember if what came of that now :monster:

LOL you gotta remember more, we're countin' on you!

Naw but seriously, you've shed a lot of light on it so far. There's a lot more to this than we thought.

Oh, is it true that each hero in Dissidia, gets a special scene with their villain when they defeat them in Shade Impulse? Like if you beat Mateus with Firion in Shade Impulse, some dialogue or cutscene happens between them?

I think most of the scenes change depending on who you use for SI. It's not usually something major, they'll just give a little comment or take the main role in the conversations. But yeah, there's a special voiced scene if you use the right hero for the villain. Otherwise you just get a little text scene.

So you get more of the storyline when you use everyone. Makes sense.

I take it in terms of the story, *everyone* is working together during the whole "Shade Impulse" part, right?

I don't think all 10 can fit together perfectly, since in some cases one character replaces enough. I think they're all going together, but usually there's only 3 or so characters in a scene.

In the theatre mode, the Destiny Odyssey scenes are reordered. Not 'WoL scenes, Frioniel scenes, etc' but in what seems like proper chronological order. So maybe SI's scenes will have one 'canon' version of the scenes?

EDIT; it doesn't :monster:

'Shade Impulse 2' is a version of the scene with WoL (played with WoL), Bartz, and Tidus. 'Shade Impulse 8' is the same scene, but with Cloud (player character) replacing WoL.

So it includes every version of the scenes.

Ahh I see. So it's like we all know they're fighting together, and fighting their villains, but it just...is kinda vague on everything else and based on who you use and when.

That's kinda cool actually. What about confronting Chaos? Does anything change depending on the character you use?

The scenes before and after the Chaos fight are the same. The only thing that changes depending on your character is Chaos' comment in the first round of the battle. In the 2nd and 3rd rounds he always says the same thing.

You know, I love how this thread is just you and me now :monster:

Oh, another question: Does it explain how and why the respective villains and heroes were chosen? Like..what exactly set them all apart?

Strangelove

Not really.

Which side they're on isn't a fixed thing, since Jecht was on Cosmos' before being on Chaos'. Plus Golbeza isn't actually loyal to Chaos. But I don't remember if they ever explain why someone's with Chaos or Cosmos, I think it's mostly just a gameplay thing to have all the FF heroes and villains :monster:

I assumed there were others, before the whole Imitations business wiping them out.

Would've been cool if they explained why they chose all those people and shit.

I honestly can't think of anything else to ask now. :monster:

I just really want this game and to see the story myself. It's kinda funny how the strongest, godly villain of FF is apparently Chaos...the first of them all. :duhard:

Ignore me, I made a mistake before :monster:

The weapon Garland was trying to create wasn't Chaos, but something else using his chaotic powers.

Other thing:

Jecht, having a 'heart of light in a body of darkness', was apparently the key to creating the dark crystal the Emperor wanted. Making Jecht fight Tidus is what got him the crystal.

What weapon is it? It's not Shinryu, is it?

And wow..Jecht plays a pretty important part doesn't he?

What does Mateus do with the crystal, again?
