I played the trials roulette with an astro yesterday, they kept pulling hate with some move that is apparently OP right now. Still planning to level it at some point.

I am level 55 now, about to do Aery. Lex and Joe, you guys are super speedy lol. The new voice actors threw me off too, especially Merlwyb. She doesn't sound like a pirate to me anymore. :(

Also, man, Alphinaud really annoyed me in ARR. I didn't hate him, but he was just so arrogant while only being a kid/teenager. But I love that little guy now. So glad he finally ate some humble pie. :P

I'm not gonna post any spoilers but fuck me is the Heavensward story a good one. ARR set a standard for a decent storyline within an MMO but Heavensward's story can stand on its own. The FFXIV team need a hand.

Anyway, have a couple pictures of my character now that she's a 60 SCH/SMN. I've gone for a Teen Titans Raven'esque look.

so I've been only playing for an hour or two a day lately and I've gotten DRK up to 44

I'm now seeing why people would run out of MP - higher levels start draining much larger amounts of MP/GCD with Darkside. That said, Syphon Strike still gives back a solid 1/9 or so of max MP, so you only need a couple of uses to get where you want to go - it's just the Unmend/Unleash that's eating MP for the most part. Dark Passenger isn't really worth it so far, unless there's at least three enemies that will be hit by it.

also I feel like Darkside might have some kind of unstated attack speed buffing component to it but I can't swear to it

tldr dark knight is a ton of fun to play - might be my favorite tank class, even though it's a little bit squishier than the other two tanks, as it combines paladin's mitigation-style gameplay with a touch of warrior lifesteal (god damn I can't wait for 100% lifesteal on souleater)

PS omfg parry is actually undeniably useful for a tank class and integral to its gameplay without any question thanks square you did good

Yeah I have my Dark Knight at 57 currently.

Really the only time I can think of when I go out of mana is when I'm really just not paying attention and am being bad. Or if my DPS are being bad with split DPS or standing in dumb shit spots that agro more stuff.

And even then as you noted Syphon strike combo puts in a lot of work, or in a pinch Blood Price or Blood Weapon are great for instantly going back up.

The squishyness is real though fosho. I get a little scared sometimes in Vault or Aery spam if the healer isn't on point on a few mobs. Other then that though keeping everything off the group is easy peasy as long as the team aren't dumb :reptar:

Not gonna lie, FFXIV is becoming more amazing as time goes by. It's the biggest love letter to the FF series ever.

From
Knights of the round being so nostalgic
to
The Warring triad from Kefka's tower showing up as elder primals
. I'm just so damn hyped.

Wow no one has posted here in ages, I guess your all to busy playing Heavensward :D

Thought I would share a video of my statics second A1 Savage kill from yesterday, our old Tank had some serious health problems so we were a couple of weeks late into raiding. We managed to fix the group this weekend and give savage a serious go. The new fights have really been a lot of fun so far, I can't wait to take on Jigglybutt in A3 soon.

Sorry for the frame drops in the middle of the stream, I guess someone in my house started streaming or something.

I'm not generally an mmo fan but one of my coworkers got me to play this game and now I'm addicted. I think it's the depth of all the classes. Having started so late I feel so behind. I see lots of other people running around leveling up their crafts though without all the fancy master armor like me and it gives me hope.

The best part of the game so far hands down is the breadth of gathering and crafting options. I just got my gathering classes up to level 30 and switched my focus to my crafting classes and damn.... It's super involved. I have to have almost every craft together if I don't want to buy items. I like being self sufficient so I'm leveling up most the crafts that are interdependent alternately. This is going to take forever. I don't think I'm going to continue with the storyline until all my classes are at least 20 or 25. I want to go into my first dungeon with all my own hq armor....

Has anyone here got to level 60 on all the crafts? Is it worth it in the end?

I'm up to 50 in all but culinarian, and it's definitely worth it. Frankly, it's where the money is at.

Piece of advice: level culinarian to 37 first, and then get carpenter to 50. After that, getting HQ on things is infinitely easier ;)

Not 60 on any crafts, too much of an expensive undertaking for the moment, but I have got Fishing to 60 and have started on the gathering scrips. It's a fairly unique approach to the progression but I enjoy it.

Cool thanks. Yeah I have heard about the culinary thing. I've definitely got a while to that point though. Some points feel like I'm just grinding crafts but other times it requires lots of strategizing to get set up for a leve or guild quest so I'll just keep plugging along...

I... got bored very fast with the crafting things. Very grind, not a lot of rewards where I was at. I think my armorsmithing is at most like 30, and having a character doing what at the time was endgame content (not counting Bahamut shit), it's just not worth doing. IMO anyways.

I'd claim I despise grind, but I'd be lying given how much time I've invested in FFXIV and WoW, and the latter was worse :monster:. Eve can be very much grind too, but it's... different.

Atticus

Yeah especially when I'm out mining ore or hunting for leather. Definitely a grind. But doing it with other people makes it a bit more enjoyable. Plus having that end goal... I definitely need to mine the ore. Saves me a lot of money in the long run.

Is it worth joining a free company? I keep getting invites but I never accept. Don't want to deal with it...

See, that thing with the other people is what mainly motivates me with MMO's; it's why I stuck with Eve for as long as I did, even if the events were... weekly at best. It's why I liked WoW in the beginning, and why I regretted my decision to follow my one friend from the official servers to the private one - on the official servers, I had only just met people and joined a guild and things were exciting. The lure of 4x XP rates and a free server pulled me over though. IIRC I have like 500 hours in WoW. In there, I got to 70 and was like... now what? A while later I got free time, maybe bought another month and got my character up to 60... but there was nothing and nobody there in the world. WoW's problem is / was that nobody is present in the open areas; everyone below top level or the latest expansion is in the dungeon finder / doing dungeons.

That's what I thought XIV did a lot better - with the fates and endgame content like the zodiac weapons or whatever they were called, all the 'normal' areas remained populated at all times. An MMO needs to feel like an MMO; areas with just a handful of people running around there grinding quests and ignoring anything else because it has no benefits to their goal of leveling up their alts do not feel like an MMO.

ramble.

There are obviously great social aspects to joining a Free Company, like having a group of players to regularly chat and run content with, or enjoying things like the Free Company house and possibly an airship.

Outside of that, though, there are free company actions that any active FC will be using regularly. These are essentially 24-hour buffs that affect everybody in the FC. Popular ones include Heat Of Battle (Experience gain increased by 5-10%) and Reduced Rates (20%(?) discount on teleport costs). There are many actions, though, and they can be used to increase everybody's gathering/craftmanship/control/perception too which I find very useful.

Also, if you're on the Cerberus server, you can join the TLS FC :D

I think I'm on leviathan server. Famfrit world. How can you tell what free perks a fc has? I wouldn't mind a bonus craft perk...

And I've heard wow was super addictive but over the last few years the content just slowly went down hill. I'm really liking ff14 at the moment even with the grinding. Hope I don't get sick of it too soon...

The 24-hour actions are purchasable by people with the correct permissions within the FC. They are bought with Free Company credits and are consumed on use. Every FC has access to every action, they just need to purchase and activate them.

I imagine most FC's would be happy to activate crafting/gathering perks if a member wants them, two perks can be active at any one time and the only one that gets used super regularly is the experience boost.

Lol I suppose. I'm not too up on all the social systems in the game yet. I only know /welcome. Some people have come up and waved at me and poked me but I never respond like I ought. Is joining an fc the best way to meet more players and socialize?

Lex

There are a bunch of ways to do that over time, but an FC is probably the best way to start.

I socialise mainly with people in linkshells/ statics. Linkshells literally just being like specific player-made chatrooms. But that's because of the nature of our FC - we do stuff together sometimes but Joe is normally on with his core buddies from elsewhere and they like to form their own group and do stuff. I tend to group up with people from Igneousphere or Prime Airlines (Igneousphere is another FC and Prime Airlines is a linkshell with a lot of top raiders in it - some dude made space for me once because he naisu <3)

Nooo don't sign up for an FC that way! Play the game and eventually you will party up with someone and get along with them, join their FC. The best bit about being in an FC is playing with people you like. The FC actions are a perk of course, but they don't matter too much.

My group managed to Down A2 over the weekend, really happy with our progress so far :)

Kill Video ---> http://www.twitch.tv/amiscreant/v/10205975

But guys, I've never seen anything like A3, I can't see why Lurezia's leader tweeted "What the fuck!" when they started working on it. The first phase alone requires super fast party wide co-ordination and high DPS, I think this is going to be the hardest fight we've ever done.
