The Importance of Mr. P - Crisis Core and Remake Thoughts

In Crisis Core, Zack recieves missions from a budding psychic named "P" who helps Shinra locate various accessories and special items. These are field tests refining his capabilities. Due to the nature of those Missions, we don't have an exact timeline placement for when this happens.

In an Aerith Prequel/Remake shortstory, Shinra has field expedition teams that are searching for locations that match photographs mostly coming from Aerith's drawings. All of this is a belief that they'll find the Promised Land by doing this. I think this story, to me, at least, hints that the Wutai War may have had something to do with this.

Anyway, I can't help but notice in the time that Aerith is out of Shinra's hands, they're experimenting with other pyschics who have the ability to locate, search, and find things out there somewhere. I don't know if P will show up in Remake, however, I think it's a real missed opportunity. It would tie in a lot of story stuff and would be a useful ally for President Rufus and/or the WRO after FF7.

Do you have any more information on P?

Where does it say that they are experimenting on psychics? This is the only page I can see a psychic being mentioned and I think they are talking about Aerith's photographs. So is the psychic meant to be Aerith?

The Psychic is an unseen fellow in Crisis Core, around 5 years before the events of FF7. If you look here https://finalfantasy.fandom.com/wik...eking_Priceless_Items#ESP_Development_Project you may recall some of the side missions in CC in which a Shinra project codenamed "P" gives Zack the challenge to find various items that he's located with ESP.

That means there's at least one other potential Psychic Shinra has experimented with. My headcanon explanation is as follows:

1. While at Shinra, Ifalna was experimented on. Those experiments eventually made her very sick and led to her death (I've wondered if Jenova Cell infusions, because Hojo but this is unclear). Before her death, Aerith drew things for Shinra and they used them to try and find the Promised Land. Aerith and Ifalna leave. Ifalna dies. Tseng locates Aerith and doesn't report her whereabouts to the rest of Shinra (iirc). While Shinra wants an Ancient, they don't really push too hard. The idea is Aerith needs to willingly come back and help of her own accord.

2. This gives us a gap of what... a decade? (I don't have my timeline handy) without a Cetra popping out images of where the Promised Land might be, locating Mako sites and/or channeling Mako the way Shinra wants. So what are they to do? We know there are strange folks with strange abilities that aren't Cetra or SOLDIER in the world... like Reeve. Presumably one of these folks showed low level ESP powers. If this is nurtured, polished, and used, that power could be used to A. Locate Aerith, B. Locate another Cetra, or C. Locate the Promised Land. Let alone spy on enemies and the like, this is a very important ability for Shinra to hone.

3. P got increasingly powerful toward the end of the CC events, their fate, and even who they are, is really unknown. We know nothing else about them (let alone the other potential psychics of ESP Development Project). So what happens to P? Maybe they're a part of Deepground as folks like Shelke, who have strange powers, end up. Or maybe P got rebellious and was killed. Or, P could be out there helping Shinra stay forward. Heck, maybe it'll be revealed to be Rufus or some crazy thing... if it ever gets remembered or mentioned at all.

4. Psychics are pretty much left out of the lore outside of this, but it doesn't mean they wouldn't exist. If FFX is in the FFVII universe (depending how seriously you take that whole thing), then we know that the Psychic "class" once existed, so it's not unusual to think of a psychic in the FFVII mythos.

But no, P probably isn't Aerith, the timeline doesn't match up at all for it, let alone Tseng and Zack seeing Aerith in the game and P makes no mention of knowing Zack.

Yeah I was aware of P I just misunderstood and thought you said that the novel had something about experimenting on psychics, and I only saw that one page talking about a psychic. I guess we also have Cait Sith and his prediction powers, and correct me if i'm wrong but Shinra made use of them in Before Crisis?

I can't say for sure his prediction powers were ever used or much more than a disguise. BC has some oddities surrounding it and I don't know if that's truly confirmed or not.

I see where your confusion was:

Anyway, I can't help but notice in the time that Aerith is out of Shinra's hands, they're experimenting with other pyschics who have the ability to locate, search, and find things out there somewhere.

No. I wasn't saying it's specifically in that story. It's in the over-all mythos.
