Note: Apologies for the lateness of the posting of this episode. Work was crazy busy this week thanks to the holidays plus I had a lot of stuff going on at home too. So, hopefully things slow down and we don't run into this again.

For Star Wars influences, I'd say Terra is more of a Luke Skywalker then Vaan/Basch. She is the Returners' only hope, thanks to her superhuman abilities. Ramuh, for that matter plays more of Yoda role in the narrative then anyone else. He is the one last Jedi that escaped the Empire (at the time), helps Terra control her powers then dies of age/exhaustion.

More of stretch but I'd also offer Palom/Porom as the same comedic sideshow to the story that C3PO and R2D2 were. in terms of stature, lethality and pottymouth Palom is Artoo verbatim and Porom is Threepio that gets the respect he deserves because people can actually understand Artoo. Though Porom is obviously still more competent.

My hopes for the new year is just that FFXV makes it this year.

I've heard so many people compare KH BBS to Star Wars in terms of general plot that I'm surprised it didn't come up in your discussion. The comparisons were largely focused on Terra's part of course, with Xehanort being Palpatine, Eraqus being Obi Wan and Terra as Anakin. I figure that probably makes Yen Sid Yoda. I think it's also worth mentioning I've seen a FF7/Star Wars crossover where the Lifestream and the Force are one and the same.

Another thing I'd like to share my thoughts on is that bit about Cloud killing Aerith instead of Sephiroth doing it. Aside from such a change being unwelcome and unnecessary in a remake, I feel that Cloud being able to keep Sephiroth from making him kill Aerith is a meaningful detail meant to show that even in the state he was in around that time, Sephiroth couldn't just force Cloud to do whatever without the slightest resistance. Sephiroth had to put effort into manipulating Cloud in a way that would actually work, which along with wanting to torment Cloud for killing him in Nibelheim, is why he goes out of his way to do stuff like that. I also agree that tacking on more guilt symbolism for the Buster Sword would be redundant and heavy handed.

That's an entirely valid point about KH BBS, but I wasn't considering Kingdom Hearts at all for this podcast.

You know what series is REALLY full of Star Wars nods? Knight of the Old Republic.
