You can feel a LOT of inspiration from his work on Abe Sapien in his Hellboy films coming through in this one (especially with the eggs and music). I cannot fucking wait to see this.

That's probably more because both Bioshock and this film are drawing from the same sources of influence, like Art Deco, rather than the former necessarily directly inspiring the latter.

I wasn't trying to imply that del Toro was drawing inspiration from Bioshock itself; I was just trying to draw comparisons between the two.

I love his films and I can see I am going to love this.

(Also, I have to say, it looks like that thing Zack fights in the caves under Banora. It looks like something Hojo made.)

Reminder that Doug Jones (who does all of the insanely impressive suit performance in GDT's films), is really fucking talented to do what he does, and he and GDT are the best team ever.
“We came up with a great idea, which is to get [Jones] a dancing double. But the dancing double put on the suit, sweated a lot, did one take, vomited, and passed out. That shows you how strong Doug is.”

Here's another really awesome article about him from last month that's SUPER worth reading: https://www.buzzfeed.com/adambvary/...shape-of-water?utm_term=.myrydE6q0#.xjl1W8Qve

Not coming to my theatre. Thanks, Star Wars, for taking up 1/3 of the building next week, not leaving room for other stuff.

Pissed.

I think that their limited release moving into a larger release is probably having some theaters shy away from showings, but I'm surprised your theater isn't picking one up at all. You oughta contact them and see if they can reconsider. (I've talked to my regular theater about showings of things more recently, and have been pleasantly surprised about how amenable they've been to suggestions).

Wait.. ugh. Maybe they are showing it. I saw it came out last week, and this week, so I figured it had a week long limited release or something. The website for the theatre shows what day movies are coming out, with no other information. That, combined with their official youtube channel posting a video saying "Shape Of Water is what to watch this weekend!!" made me think this was the full release.

Here's hoping then.

EDIT: About talking to them about getting stuff, it's a 10 screen theatre, and the only one in town. They don't really have the wiggle room when it comes to that, since they have so little space to cater to all the demographics. There's been a couple movies I've asked about since I saw their posters disappear a few months before their release (like Birdman), and they've never shown up, even after they said "oh yes, we'll be showing it (like Birdman)

I had the same thing when I was looking for midnight showings on Tuesday, and then hunted back on Twitter for their full release schedule. With as much critical acclaim as it's getting, I'd be surprised if your theater didn't pick up at least ONE showing on the nationwide release.

Fingers crossed.

God damn, but this was a fantastically crafted film. I don't know if it's his method of storytelling that is framed like actual storytelling, the period that it's set in, the filmmaking itself, or just the combination of all of them, but this is something I would ALWAYS call a FILM and I'd never call a MOVIE. I can't quite put my finger on it, but I think that that's a distinction that I feel exceptionally strongly about when talking about this.

The characters and setting are fantastic, the dialogue is fucking brilliant, and the story is really just gripping throughout. I especially love that
the scars are left loosely ambiguous. There're just enough hints and either interpretation is just as lovely.

I really hope that you guys all get to see it.

Talked to the manager of my theatre last night, and we're going to be getting Shape of Water in the next few weeks. Apparently a lot of people have been "shaking the tree" bout stuff like this, and they've finally decided to show a bit more movies catered to film buffs. About time, considering this is a college town, and it's know for it's arts.

Fucking excellent news! Glad you're gonna be getting more quality showings. Our theater always has a bunch of obscure Bollywood films because there's a big Indian community who watches them, and shit like that just makes me so glad. It's so nice when there's a demand for something and it actually makes change.
