Things most people dont know about FF7

Is there any piece of trivia about FF7 that you think most fans don't know? I want the most obscure things. If we get some good ones, I might put together a video for our youtube channel.

Just a few things musically that I found out during the OST Review:

One Winged Angel draws from a variety of musical sources including "Purple Haze", Carmina Burana, Stravinsky's "Rites of Spring" and the opening string work is based on the theme from Psycho.

Zack Fair never really died for Cloud at least that wasn't his main goal like majority of people thought he was.

I'd say the fact you can go on a date with Barret, but I know at least most of us on here know that, so unsure how that'd go down with everyone outside the site. :monster:

I enjoyed this video about two years ago.

One thing that really surprised me - I had no clue that you could lose permanent access to Fort Condor. (First section of the video, for anyone interested)

if you speak to Cloud when he's in the wheelchair a few times he mutters the lyrics to the xenogears theme song. If you balls up the sub misssion you can take the red one in the dock. There's a poster of Hironobu Sakaguchi in a house in rocket town and a poster of another game in the boy's room where you get the snowboard. D type equipment in Dio's little museum is a Evangelion reference. Loveless poster at the start of the game is the album of My bloody Valentine

Why thankyou. There's loads more but I've been on a self inflicted ff7 ban. New trailer has brought me back kicking and screaming.

Just remembered. The poster in the icicle in is of Bahamut lagoon. Another random one... The tires on the yellow truck Cloud and Zack flee in are branded 'Good stone', a play on 'Goodyear' and 'Bridgestone'

"This guy are sick" only appears in the original Playstation version. Every version since - starting with the original 1998 PC release - has fixed the line to "This guy is sick".

I noticed doing my ps4 run this morning that in the Shinra basement there is several books laid out to 'spell' VII. There's about 5 or six. Another real obscure one is in the reactors. When you walk down the stairs from the lift, you go through a door and have to jump over a little gap. before you do there is some greek writing on the 'wall' thing. In english it reads SMKINS, which is the file name for the map. I've done some research and it seems to stand for South makoreactor inside/interior. The shop in Wutai that Yuffie steals materia from the crate, well the sign reads materia in Kanji. The mat on the floor where Yuffie gets carried off by Corneo's 'ninjas' reads get rich quick.

Edit: The goldsaucer hotel is named the picman hotel

Final one... Somehow i only found this out today. The 'Thing' in Aeris' church is one of Shinra's test rockets. Cid mentions in the highwind Something about it. After 100 playthroughs i only just realized.

You're likely to notice extra stuff on the PS4 playthrough because the backgrounds have been so well upscaled. That or it's one hell of a filter they're using.

okay this is the final one... At the beginning of the game when you blow the first reactor up, you go through a sort of 'town square' with electricity that shoots across a wire, just before you jump onto the train. The sign says MT KOLTS, a place in FF6. Going to bed now i promise.

several of signs written in chinese character in corneo's mansion look like nonsense but they're actually sort of secret messages if you read each character with the right pronunciation (called 'ateji' in japanese where characters are chosen for their sound rather than their meaning). some are items of food (the two signs outside of the big door to corneo's room with his desk say 'gyouza' and 'shuumai', the two white signs near the entrance to his bedroom say 'oshiruko' and 'zenzai', and the character on his quilt and the base of his bed make up the word 'tendon [tempura donburi]'), some are messages to his men (the door mat in his lackeys' room says 'clean up [after yourself]'), and on the pink neon sign outside the mansion and the big paper lantern in his bedroom he has 'corneo'.

i think the most interesting is the door mat in his bedroom which if you decode it gives you an idea of what's going to happen next: 'pit fall/trap'

I first noticed this in Crisis Core. Was really surprised to see that it had been there all along in FFVII.

I would throw "O Fortuna" into that list (no idea if the wiki mentions that, as my laptop refuses to load wiki pages for some reason). The whole "sors immanis et inanis (Swords in my knees; thirty bunnies)" section is in "O Fortuna."

Wolf_ already said most of the good ones :)
Ehm... the flow of the sewage in the sewer field screens below Don Corneo's place is animated with 8 frames. The waterfall behind Aerith's house is animated with 4 frames.

That is an epic find. The theory about the bar is a good read. Gonna spend my night skimming through this.

I'm currently playing the part of the game where Cloud is disguised as a regular foot soldier in Upper Junon. I went to the Weapons Store, a noise was made as I passed the thin blue line, and the guy says what he says at the counter. I go downstairs and then back in to him. This time, however, the sound is different, and the guy's line has a bit of a variance.

So, I reached for the script I have saved on my phone---this one here---and discovered the weapon seller says something different based on how much Gil you have.

From the site:
Less than 1,000 Gil = I've nothing to sell to you! Come back later!
Between 1,000 and 7,999 = Hey! Yo! You want weapons?
Between 8,000 and 65,535 = Hey! Yo! Our weapons are the best!
65,536 or more = Hey! Yo! Would you like to buy the whole store?

So, I decided to test it out. Here are the sounds you get:
(All the links are to Youtube videos, which begin around the time of the sound)
Less than 1,000 Gil = Wailing siren (It doesn't stop until you reach the doorway of the seller's store)
Between 1,000 and 7,999 = Soft elevator jingle
Between 8,000 and 65,535 = This beep
65,536 or more = Whoosing and whistling/chirping during the marching segment of Rufus's welcoming ceremony (It acts the same way as the siren sound)

Also, you have to cross the doorway of his shop to change these. For example, I sold everything when I had about 7,900 Gil, and he said the same thing in that value range, even when I had 66,807. Only when I walked past the doorway and back did this change.

I had to sell everything I owned and just about managed 66,807 Gil :monster:
Needless to say, I saved before doing this and reset afterwards.
