Well, there's more where that came from.
If you wish to have some insight into the code of the original game, then from the qhimm community you can find a whole 200+ pages document about it
Huh. I really need to start visiting this site more often, it's a bit of a safe haven tbh, particularly the above link, I wish I'd found it sooner. Best believe it's getting scoured!!! (-Edit- Yes yes yes yes, I now have the indexing for all items, I've been needing these)

Anyway, as of late I've been finding more and more hidden things in the game, so I'll bullet point 'em:

- There is a hidden Potion found in Sector 7. If you talk to the guy next to the dog in the Beginner's Hall without any Potions in your inventory, then he will give you one. This will only happen once, and cannot be farmed. If you missed this Potion in Sector 7, then you can talk to the south-most shimmering NPC in Junon's Intermediate hall to receive the same Potion.

- When you talk to your party at the base of the North Crater, if you had sent Cait Sith the lower-left path, then he will give you an X-Potion, although the Turbo Ether is the item that is removed from the field.

- When you send Yuffie along the Upper left path, she will have the Counter Materia when you talk to her, provided you sent her with someone. If you sent her alone, then she will have the W-Magic Materia on her, although the coding will prevent her from handing it over.

- When you reach the bottom of the North crater, before triggering your comrades to appear, you could make your way back to the Higwind. If you enter the screen with the rope ladder, the one in which you can change your party at the top, you will trigger a glitch to occur in which the game will think that you've sent Cloud along the right path, and everyone else along the left path. When you talk to your comrades, they will give you an item randomly selected from either of the left paths, including the party members that you traveled with, regardless of which final path you took.

- I love this one. There is an additional scene in Gongaga invloving some affection dialogue with Barret. A line of coding that takes place as you enter the back of the church at the beginning of the game (of all the places) will prevent this scene from taking place. If you enter Gongaga with Barret in your party, trigger Cloud to comment "a ruined reactor", and converse with one of several NPCs, when you returned to the fork with the Deathblow Materia Barret would appear to remark about his hatred for the Shinra, then Cloud would be able to modify Barret's affection by either +3 or -8. Check out the dialogue here, along with another scene I found with Tifa at the bar.

- When you obtain the Tiny Bronco, have you ever found yourself wanting to obtain large amounts of gil, but without power leveling your characters up against the Sea-Worm on the shores of Mideel? 2 ways:
1) In Bone Village, you can dig for free. Stand over the black mound on the upper level, cenral screen (and to the right slightly) for a free Ether every time, which can be sold for 750 gil.
2) And this way is by far my fav - Equip Big Guard or Time and get into battle with 2x Trickplay just outside of Bone Village. Cast Haste on them; every time they use Gold Mountain, their end-of-battle value will increase by 800, WITH NO CAP (well, obviously other than that of the maximum binary value). PS4 players - you can earn gil whilst being away from the controller (with the L3 and R3 cheats)!!!!

- There are many items in the game that you can interact with, but are hidden from view, such as the Elixir in the back of the inn of Cosmo Canyon, and the Ether in a vase in North Corel etc etc. All of these hidden items have the correct image ID, apart from two of the items found in the Train Graveyard (Hi-Potion and an Ehther) have the ID of a woman. Check here and here.

And the last two are probably known about, but I've only just discovered 'em you can pair Steal as Well with Comet2 to grant a steal attempt with every hit, and also you can link Added Cut (or Steal as Well) with Master Command to add a cut to every command, including Attack, and item!

That's all I got for now, but I'm sure some'll come to me!!

^Have you read the unused text series? If not, you might enjoy it. A few people on that gameFAQ's link could be doing with an alerting to it too, if anyone can post there.

Hey, thanks man, this is definitely the sort of thing that interests me. I'll be sure to mention it in my GFaq post too!

If you connect a Master Command materia with a support materia that is compatible with Command materia (such as HP/MP Absorb, Steal as well, or Added Cut), it affects your Attack command...and that's even if your Attack command is superceded by a Slash-All (whether it's through a 1-star Slash-All materia or a Mega All materia). If you have HP/MP Absorb on a Master Command, you WON'T absorb either with Flash, and i doubt it works with Limit Breaks, but I'll test that one later on.

Something I discovered today playing in Icicle Inn - might not be new to many.

When you play the videos in Ifalna and Gast's old house, the window/skylight that you can open via the computer will remain open or closed (or the half-opened appearance) in the videos, depending on how it is set beforehand. I played the videos multiple times to test this out :P

It's not particularly exciting info, but still it's something of (minor) note, even if it's just something to be seen as an error or an easter-egg-esque tidbit.

I never actually paid attention to this detail that the skylight remains the same between the videos and the present. Thanks for pointing it out!

Speaking of Icicle Inn, I enjoy this easy-to-miss moment in the inn's basement. :awesome: Open the door to the toilet...

Later in the game you will find a woman in there and she will punch Cloud to the ground.

That coding was likely intentional, given Yuffie's well-documented history of Materia handling...

I recently discovered that Bahamut ZERO *is* permanently missable.

If you have obtained the Huge Blue Materia, then your you will never be able to obtain Bahamut ZERO from Bone Village. The only way to qualify for the 3.9% chance to obtain Bahamut ZERO is to have failed on of the Huge Materia missions (it doesn't matter which one). The acquisition of Bahamut or Neo Bahamut make no difference whatsoever.

Also, one of the dig spots (dig spot 8) is dummied out and is never used. Perhaps this dig site initially included the Steal Materia and Catastrophe...

I agree. It seems very likely that they had intended to have her hand over the W-Magic Materia, but then changed their minds.
