TLS Awards 2016 - Phase 1: Categories

Okay, since we are running low on this time and because I have no idea what I'm doing we are going to do the short-hand version of the TLS Awards this year.

Phase 1 will simply be determining the categories. We will only be doing a single round of this, no pairing down therefore:

1. Only nominate or back a category you intend to vote on.
2. We all like joke categories, but please indicate as such.
3. A category must have at least 3 backers to be in the final voting.
4. Post your nomination suggestions in the thread below, don't PM them.

Phase 2 will be nomvoting based upon the selected categories. For the sake of voter privacy and/or fraud prevention:

1. All votes will be cast via PM to yours truly.
2. I will not be voting.
3. Winners will be determined by a popular vote.
4. Question for the group: Ties allowed or Tie-breakers?


Here are tentative end dates for each phase. Since there seems to be a rule about having it be a year end thing I am hoping this doesn't seem to restrictive. Let me know below if you have an issue with this.

Phase 1 Ends: 12/20/16
Phase 2 Ends: 01/01/16

The winners will be announced on New Years Day.

Great start! Although I adore alliteration, I'd like to suggest a re-rebranding to:

Hottest Male

... for their vagueness, as Manliness is not an attractive quality for me

I'd like to go a step further and suggest merging the "hottest" categories into "hottest member" or something (not that kind of "member" either), since there are more than two genders represented on TLS. Even if that wasn't the case, why segregate when it's not necessary?

I'll post some other category suggestions tomorrow. I just thought I'd better get this in quickly because I imagine it's going to be debated somewhat.

Flintlock brings up a good point though, though I still think if there was only one category the lovely ladies would sweep and clear.

Creative Contributor - Audio....not too sure about this one tbh. I'm of half a mind to just make one category and call it "Most Creative Contributor". On one hand, putting all the creativity into one basket feels limiting, but on the other, it's hard to have a lot of art categories especially when some don't get much attention on TLS (I can only think of a couple people who have actually put up audio stuff this year maybe).

Best Ass and Best Boobs (As seprate awards, both of these two can be amusing I prefer sayng best boobs because not all boobs are big and bouncy >__>)

*Most Creative Poster* I just need some clarification on this one because it's a bit puzzling to me on how I'd judge the most creative poster. Unless this was meant to be an art category?

Anyway. For a generally progressive forum, my earlier suggestion sure went down like a lead balloon, so let's move on... These are my category nominations, plus possible FFVII-themed rebrandings for some of them:

• Best forum staffer
• Best newcomer* (Cloud Award)
• Best poster
• Best ship (Highwind Award)
• Best site contributor
• Best thread starter (Barret Award)
• Crack ship (Tiny Bronco Award)
• Horniest member (Don Corneo Award)
• Lifetime achievement**
• Member you'd most like to meet
• Most entertaining (Palmer Award)
• Most improved (Cait Sith Award)
• Wish you were here*** (Aeris Award, or possibly the Biggs, Wedge and Jessie Award if we want to use Aeris for something else)

Certain categories need clarifying over previous years IMO:

* Joined after Dec 1st last year (not Jan 1st this year because people who joined last December wouldn't have had a chance to be nominated)
** Must not have previously won this award
*** Hasn't logged in after a given cut-off date (to prevent the situation we seem to have every year where someone makes it onto the poll and then posts "I'm still here!")

I feel that there must be people behind the scenes who deserve an award but whose work never really gets noticed or acknowledged precisely because it's behind the scenes. But maybe I'm wrong.

Mayor Domino's Library Award for the master/mistress of FFVII trivia. Or it could be the BOMB, KING or MAKO award....

Would an "overall" category not suffice to fulfill this gap? I don't believe it's regresssive to acknowledge that there are bona fide differences in how attractiveness is judged between males and females. You're not usually checking out a dude's tits.

Well, I mean you could check out mine, but they're not as pleasing.

I don't mind. There'd be a very high level of overlap if we had three categories (male/female/overall), so if nobody else cares, we might as well just stick with male and female. The two genderqueer/fluid people I know of on TLS aren't active at the moment anyway. (Apologies if I'm forgetting anyone.)
