I got an e-mail reminder about domain renewal (which is automagic, don't worry), and remembered that TLS will turn 6 years old on September 25th (the date I registered the domain). Anything we'd like to do to celebrate? :monster:

If anybody is interested, I could *possibly* stream Dirge of Cerberus. Not on the 25th because it's a Thursday, but a Saturday or Sunday would work best.

The downside is that just the utterance of the title kills joy for some people so interest will definitely be low, plus I have no experience with entertaining people via a stream (assuming I'll be commenting on stuff while streaming). Can't promise anything, just throwing the idea out there.

At the very least I'd have "some" comical reactions towards the game, because it's the type of game I enjoy in a "so bad it's good" type of way.

I'd like this. If we could do the Saturday that follows (27th?) I'd be happy to join you on Skype while you stream if you'd prefer to do something like that. VII in a day is stressful ;-;. I have a wedding on the 20th so the prior weekend is out for me.

@Shad, you just need to start at some point and see what feels right. I tend to just blabber about the game (both gameplay and world) and other random stuff, but I find that I need to shut up once in a while because talking TOO much exhausts people (excepts if the chat in lively, then I talk as much as possible!) It took time to build a follower base so don't expect too much on the first stream - but it really is random people popping by that is the most fun. When streaming on Twitch, people can look up streams on that particular game, so someone you don't know might pop by, which is always fun.

The more are already watching, the more stay. It's a strange mechanism but don't be too offended by it if people just come and go. Trying to not look at your view count dropping is hard, but you get used by it. You never know if people had to go eat dinner or if they didn't like your accent or gender (I love it when I start talking and people are like HAVE I BEEN TAKING ADVICE FROM A GIRL?? XD) so. I love it when I get emails that new people are following me after streaming. I haven't yet discovered a formula for when they do - but if I'm on mic and the chat is lively, people want to come back to have conversations about the game/ gameplay. I think that's what attracts more people in the end, and you know A LOT about VII! So slip in random information here and there. It might make you sound like a knowitall but who cares - people always enjoy someone with knowledge.

Given that it's 6 years old and the birthday lands on a week day, maybe we should have 6 events leading up to or around the day.

EG.

Day 1 - FFVII serious thing
Day 2 - FFVII Fun thing
Day 3 - It's all about the members - We could do a happy birthday joint video each saying something..... um cool?
Day 4 - Cookie monster day!!
Ummmm etc!

Day 6 - Some wonderful FFVII type thing that is created and we can all feel proud of - I offer my posh English accent to this and any proof reading/editing skills. I have no other skills to donate.

Brainstorming about how the DC stream is going to happen.

We want to include both gameplay and cutscenes, because both have meat for commentary and reactions. It should take about...13 hours, give or take one hour.

I'd like to play Ex Hard on DC:International. The playthrough will start with all the best equipment already on, so EXP will always be used to level up Vincent instead of being turned into gil, meaning that Vincent should get overpowered quickly even for the harshness of Ex Hard.

When silence is not called for, I'll comment on the gameplay, version differences, difficulty mode differences, trivia etc while also trying to be entertaining (Fair Warning: ALL the obvious reference jokes will be made, such as when the game makes you think of Sailor Moon or the Power Rangers).

Dividing up the stream in half might be a good idea. 6-7 hours on Saturday (Sep 27), 6-7 hours on Sunday (Sep 28). Yay or nay? Seasoned streamers might have some feedback on this. From a stamina point-of-view, dividing up the playthrough sounds reasonable both for me and the viewers. I honestly don't think I can handle a 13-14 hour sitting while also being a commentator. I don't mind losing a few viewers in the transition from one day to the other.

Questions:
- Should I be inviting people from all over the web or should I keep the stream limited mostly to TLS? The former makes sense to me. We get "TLS group feels" in other ways, so the stream chat doesn't have to be exclusively the TLS group. If people learn about TLS via this "Anniversary Event Stream" that'd be cool.

- What are my streaming options? I have Elgato Game Capture HD, a headset, plus I'll soon have a webcam which I'm pretty sure includes a mic as well. Got Skype and a Twitch account. How do these things work?

- If I stream on Twitch, are there any strict rules against foul language and commentary of a sexual nature? I'd like to be able to speak freely with cursing etc but if that's a NONO then please let me know.

You can use the El Gato to stream to Twitch using Open Broadcaster Software (or Obs), it's the best program for it and the one we all use.

Twitch has rules about foul language, you need to go into your Twitch settings and make sure it's set to 18+ or include a disclaimer before the video, that way people need to agree etc. Having said that, I've never done that and I swear like a trooper when I'm streaming.

I did VII in a day and it took me about 13 hours of real life time. I was exhausted by the end of it. I hit a bit of a slump at round about temple of the ancients and I think it was because I simply knew how much longer I had to go. Splitting it over two days would stop you from feeling exhausted probably but doing it in one go was pretty rewarding
