TOTAL CRISIS - FINAL FANTASY VII
Total Crisis.png
Art depicting SOLDIER 1st Class, Uriel Ashfield, in Elmyra Gainsborough's garden within the Sector 5 Slums. Hidden in the cave above the waterfall is Garnet Weapon, the spirit of the Cetra, Ifalna, who watches over and violently protects the last living Cetra, her daughter Aerith Gainsborough.

TIMELINE
[ μ ] - εγλ 1972
  • Uriel Ashfield and Melody are born in Icicle Inn, within the Icicle Area of the Northern Continent.

[ μ ] - εγλ 1977
  • Recruitment for the Shinra infantry begins, as the SOLDIER Project is approved by the Shinra Power Electric Company. The recruitment campaign reaches Uriel Ashfield (five years old), who dreams of joining Shinra in hopes of becoming a hero.

[ μ ] - εγλ 1989
  • With the SOLDIER Project having advanced further and further, Uriel (17 years old) finally reaches the age where he can leave his hometown. His girlfriend Melody accompanies him as he travels to Midgar, moving into the Slums together while they attempt to find jobs.
  • Uriel is eventually recruited into the military as a Shinra Infantryman, and Melody becomes a secretary in Shinra Tower, and so they are relocated to the Upper Sector 7 Shinra Employee Residence.

[ μ ] - εγλ 1992
  • Within the Infantry, Uriel (20 years old) was charged with enforcing the law within Midgar, instead of being sent to Wutai.
  • As the Wutai War continues to drag on, Shinra decides that they need to promote more people into SOLDIER to end it—especially since Sephiroth (the only SOLDIER 1st Class) was pulled out of Wutai to end conflict in the Rhadore Archipelago. As such, Uriel was chosen to join SOLDIER, and is infused with Mako energy and Jenova Cells.
  • Just after finding out that Melody is pregnant with their child, Uriel is deployed to Wutai.
  • The last living Cetra on the planet, Ifalna and Aerith, manage to escape Shinra Tower, and arrive at the Sector 5 Undercity Station. Unfortunately, Ifalna dies from her wounds, which leaves Aerith in the care of Elmyra Gainsborough. Ifalna's spirit energy passes on into the Lifestream, where she is reconstructed into a Weapon of the planet, Garnet Weapon. She is tasked with safeguarding her own daughter, Aerith, and so slumbers within the cave/waterfall near Elmyra's house.

[ μ ] - εγλ 1993
  • Shinra discovers the location of the last living Cetra, Aerith Gainsborough, within the Sector 5 Slums. Tseng of the Turks is sent to reclaim her, but it turned away by her adoptive mother, Elmyra Gainsborough. As he is leaving, Garnet Weapon attacks him from the nearby waterfall, but Tseng manages to escape.
  • Uriel (21 years old) has been fighting in Wutai for a year, but is suddenly pulled out. With Sephiroth on deployment, Shinra decided that they needed a SOLDIER 1st Class in Midgar to expand their recruitment campaign and deal with internal affairs, and so Uriel was promoted. As a 1st Class, he gained the ability to personalize his appearance, and the freedom to accept or deny some of the more trivial missions given to him. On top of that, he was given a raise, which greatly helped his now-wife, and upcoming child.

[ μ ] - εγλ 1994
  • Uriel (22 years old) has a sparring match against Sephiroth, in which he effortlessly loses. Losing to a teenager made Uriel feel as though he was promoted more out of luck than skill, and so he sought to improve himself.
  • He got his chance when Professor Hojo came to him with his first high-grade mission, one so secretive that not even the Director of SOLDIER could issue it to him. Agreeing to this mission, Hojo performed an experiment on him that embedded Materia within his hand. This was the Harvest Materia, a prototype of the Enemy Skill Materia, which could gather and replicate the essences of monsters after their defeat.
  • Uriel was tasked with travelling around the world, taking on powerful monsters in order to test the Harvest Materia's capabilities. He was partnered with a young member of the Turks, Bishop, who was stationed to oversee Uriel and making sure he stayed on-task.
  • After completing all of his missions as directed, Uriel returned to Midgar. There, Hojo gave him his final mission; he briefly filled Uriel in on the "large monster" (Garnet Weapon) that had attacked Tseng a year ago, and ordered Uriel to defeat it and harvest its essence.
  • Infantrymen were placed at the entranceway to Elmyra Gainsborough's property as Uriel went to accomplish his mission. He traversed into the cave above the waterfall, where he faced off against Garnet Weapon. The fight was later brought into the garden below, where both defeated each other. Uriel, dying in a field of flowers and ash, refused to absorb the monster's essence as he realized it was only attacking to defend Aerith, its child.
  • Uriel's Harvest Materia was recovered, but Hojo found that the monster's data did not exist within it, and so the mission was considered a monumental failure. Thus, Hojo never learned that this monster was a Weapon of the planet, and would not find out that Weapons were real until going into the Northern Cavern during Final Fantasy VII.
URIEL ASHFIELD
Uriel Data Entry.pngCaelus Axel.png
Born in the Icicle Area of Gaia, Uriel Ashfield was one of the first SOLDIER members known to have been promoted to SOLDIER 1st Class. He was promoted in order to handle internal affairs while the true hero of Shinra, Sephiroth, was deployed in Wutai. However, Uriel would soon get his time to shine when Professor Hojo gave him the mission of a lifetime: he was to slay a mysterious creature slumbering near Elmyra Gainsborough's house, and use the Harvest Materia implanted into his left hand to harvest its essence.

MELODY ASHFIELD
Melody Ashfield (Ever Crisis).pngGirlBody.png

Uriel's childhood sweetheart, Melody eventually married him and moved with him to Midgar. It was partly because of Melody's placement as a secretary in Shinra Tower that Uriel was given good favor enough to join the Shinra infantry, and eventually be promoted to SOLDIER. Melody lived in the Upper Sector 7 Shinra Employee Residence, where she raised her and Uriel's son while Uriel was out on deployment. Following the news of Uriel’s death, it is unknown what became of her, or where she was when the Sector 7 Plate was dropped in [ ν ] – εγλ 0007.

GARNET WEAPON
GarnetWeapon.pngIfalna.png

The mother of Aerith Gainsborough, and one of the last remaining Cetra in the world. After ensuring that her daughter was freed from Shinra's captivity, being taken in to live with Elmyra Gainsborough, Ifalna succumbed to her wounds and passed away. With her spirit energy going to the Lifestream, Ifalna was reconstructed into a Weapon of the planet: Garnet Weapon. Residing in the waterfall next to Elmyra's home, Garnet Weapon's sole purpose is to protect the life of Aerith at all costs, as both the last living Cetra, and her daughter.

BISHOP
Bishop (Ever Crisis).png
A member of the Shinra Power Electric Company's Investigation Sector of the General Affairs Department, also known as the Turks. Bishop is a younger member of the organization, who was sent to accompany Uriel Ashfield on the top-secret mission he was assigned by Professor Hojo. She oversees Uriel's actions across the world, making sure he never strays from the mission. Once Uriel was sent to eliminate Garnet Weapon, however, Bishop was forbidden from joining him. She later grieved over the news of his death, though it is unknown if she resigned from the Turks.

The care and attention to detail here is awesome. Love that you faithfully recreated Nomura’s FF7 art style for the various portraits, and the story is an epic and believable expansion. Bravo! Headcanoning this all now.

I am dropping every chain telling me to lurk just to reiterate that this is really, really good stuff. I would have believed it if you told me the art was from a Japan exclusive mobile or online game. I would have been gunning for a translation!
