Hey all, I'm back on my usual bullshit and making diagrams.

Since the latest Rebirth trailer, Elmyra's line "The world is ending. At least, that's what they're saying" has stuck with me. That and the strange angelic rift in the sky that can just barely be seen before the trailer cuts away. Elmyra's description and the provided imagery bring to mind the "dying universe" seen during the Edge of Creation scene, as named by the Material Ultimania.

Now it could be that the universes in that scene are merely symbolic. However, it's all too alluring for me not to speculate on. I've concluded that the Terrier Stamp world (the one with Zack) is within that universe.

In addition to the angelic "dying universe", the Material Ultimania also names the red nebula as the "universe that will be born". We also have the Beagle Stamp world (the one we play through in Remake) which seems to reside in a semi-normal functioning universe, and we have Sephiroth who gives Cloud a vision of the planet "before its demise". To show a specific vision like that, Sephiroth would've had to experienced something similar. A memory.

I've attempted to link all these universes together. I call it the "Universe Life Cycle Theory". Hopefully the diagram below explains it well enough.

Most interesting to note is the "universe that will be born", which I think will come up more in Part 3. The Material Ultimania states that Cloud "bears the burden" of this universe. Whatever theory you subscribe to, most people agree now that there are at least two worlds in this story: Beagle and Terrier. And they appear to have similar histories. After all, they both have Cloud. It's like the story of Final Fantasy VII keeps getting told again and again.

I think the ultimate goal of the Remake Project will be to break that cycle. Life needs to go on beyond Final Fantasy VII. I think Sephiroth has a method to do this, but it's not natural. He wants to preserve himself and Cloud above all else. But that's against the philosophy of the lifestream. You have to let go. You have to make way for what comes next. I think the party will come to understand that. They're fighting to break free of the cycle too, but for the people that come after them. A world where life can go in any direction, free of "fate". No more Clouds, Aeriths, or Sephiroths.

I hope that makes sense. In this theory, time travel is not involved at all, just multiple universes at different points in their lifespan with memories crossing between them.
