Unlucky's Sketch Hoard

WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN
I literally have hoards of sketches hidden among my hoards of other things-- and I figured I might as well share some instead of chucking them in a corner to rot forever.

A little background: I've always loved drawing since I was young but I never got to enrich this hobby. No art lessons whatsoever. Following some years of hiatus I decided to get in touch with art again. These are my attempts: (huge images)

Bear with me, my paper is just the right size but the scanner didn't fully capture some of the images

Marlene Dietrich, the German singer and actress from the 1930s

Some FF stuff:

These are my entries for the Art Challenge. There are other FFVII works I've shared in this forum before (cba to find :desu: )

Anyway, I'll update after I've scanned my other stuff, and whenever I have new ones to share, which will probably be around the next century as I'm rarely inspired these days :desu:

I have no constructive criticism, I just want to say I love your work here. Reminds me of how much I need to practice figure drawing.

*jaw drops to the floor* No art courses you say. Dayum. Truly you are a goddess.

Question about the Marlene Dietrich pic. Was this a freestyle thing where you just watched a photo of the actress and then tired to copy it, or did you have a photo printed then placed your paper on top of it? Either way, I can hardly grasp that this drawing exists.

^The former. Basically I saved the image on my old cellphone and used that as reference (as I've done in all my old works). Photo wasn't huge so if you notice there's an incredible lack of details. I had to make up for it by getting the values (shading) right.

Also thanks to everyone for the compliments. Will try to update soon. :monster:

I believe the term I'm looking for is "amazeballs" Fantastic stuff.

I really like the guy smoking a ciggarette, I think the unfinishedness adds to it, as if hes smoking his life away.... Or something:monster:

^I know another reason-- because it's Tseng Takeshi Kaneshiro! :wackymonster:

I was really struck with laziness with that one. And I almost forgot it exists.

Crappy updates ahead! You've been warned.

Not really fresh artz, bunch of old stuff just like before:

Looks like a child's doodle, lulz. Inspired by the Hindu god of the same name.

As an excuse for the bewb exposure, I wanted to practice. :monster:

Speaking of 'nude' summons.. I always thought Siren (FFVIII) has her pubes exposed. Or is it not..?

scarlet_by_nikkifernrod-d6eesl2.jpg

I thought it'd be easier to draw the way Scarlet looks in my head. In my previous sketches she either looked too young and pretty, or too old and horrendous. This one isn't spot on, but I like how cold the eyes look.

ltd_genderbend_by_nikkifernrod-d6eetoc.jpg

One of the many character genderbends I did. I had fun doing this :monster:

Couldn't think of genderbent names for Aerith and Tifa. Any suggestions?

And just because I was in the mood I colored 'Cloudine':

cloudine_colored_by_nikkifernrod-d6eeuej.jpg

It's a bit crude, I don't really know how to work woth colors but I can't be arsed to learn for the moment and I just wanna have fun with it. (Also colored A&T but didn't finish).

Should've drawn this with a tiara and pigtails. :sadpanda:

I quite enjoy how subtle the Cloud genderbend is. It doesn't scream "LOOK HE'S A WOMAN NOW" while at the same time not being just androgynous. Male-Tifa reminds me of a face one might see in a Dreamworks movie.

Thumbs up to all the drawings.

So I finally got a tablet as a gift for my birthday. I know it's going to take time to get used to the controls and features, let alone master the programs.. so I thought it would be good to focus on something small and not so colorful for the moment.

No really I'm just craving for Japanese food :sadpanda:

Haven't really gotten into studying tutorials yet. Hopefully when I'm not too busy I'll get around to explore everything about digital art. And perhaps color some of my old work.

Program: Autodesk Sketchbook Express

After ignoring my tablet for months out of frustration, I finally got something done:

minako_by_nikkifernrod-d6uwyln.png

Started out very eager and excited and just turned lazy, as evident in the coloring. Midway through, I realized that it's not gonna turn out the way I want it to.

..I hate it. But I'm a little glad that I finally finished something. And it's colored, yay.

I fucking hate the face.

1) It's too cute, and not in a good way. I was aiming for young and fresh, with a little subtle naughty smirk to allude to the possibility of all the male characters fancying her. I see none of those in the finished work.

2) Why... why can't I draw anime-ish looking fanart?! :sadpanda: When I was kid I used to have that style of drawing, but through the years I opted for something different, and as a result.. I can't draw anime anymore. I wanna be able to do it again, pl0x

3) Fuck lineart, man. I tend to be really messy with my work on paper, but for digital art you can't get away with too much. Or at least I haven't figured out how to. Zoom and you will see much more of the fail.

..Holy shit am I really hating on myself after finally being assed to get creative XD

Well I think you nailed it. She has a confidence, an attitude. I think it's very good, you shouldn't beat yourself up over this! I'd definitely want to see more from you.

I agree with Fangu. Her expression shows a confident attitude. I think the cuteness works here, because you get a sense that the confidence we see is just the tip of the iceberg, most of it submerged in cuteness and slightly blushing cheeks. If we saw the entire iceberg we might have been scared by its size, instead judging this girl as a dangerous specimen. I LIKE IT!

Be courageous and create without hate. *cheers on*

Thanks for the encouraging comments. <3

I'm too harsh on myself probably from seeing too much awesome fan arts on the nets.

I think you did a very nice job with the face - you really got the subtle expression you were going for.

And I feel exactly the same way about lineart and digital lineart in particular. Putting a sheet of paper on top of my tablet helps me to control the lines a bit more/be a bit less shakey, because the tablet's such an unnaturally smooth drawing surface otherwise, but I dunno if it's good for the pen nib (probably not).

Hi there :) Thank you for the tip-- I tried and it does have a more realistic feel to it. Although I still can't draw perfectly straight lines, but I guess that requires tons and tons of practice.
