I'm just sucker for vampire fiction and its different lore. This has been originally published in AO3, but I dont finish it yet. Just yesterday, I updated it with new chapter but still far from complete, and suddenly it comes to my mind to share it here as well.

🔥 Final Fantasy VII meets Vampires! 🔥

What if ShinRa was a vampire coven? What if AVALANCHE were vampire hunters?
My AU fanfic reimagines FFVII’s world while staying true to the characters’ core.
Expect deep lore, forbidden love, and an epic battle for humanity’s survival.

Haha, that's probably my shamless promotion. But it's not the summary yet. So, here it is!

One fights for vengeance. One fights for peace. In a world ruled by blood, only one fate will remain.

Cloud Strife has buried his deepest memories, but not his thirst for revenge. He arrives in Midgar—a sprawling metropolis where the most powerful vampire coven lurks beneath the facade of megacorporation ShinRa Inc.—to hunt the monster who destroyed his village: Sephiroth. At the request of his childhood friend, Tifa Lockhart, he joins AVALANCHE, a vampire-hunting resistance.

Amidst the shadows, he crosses paths with Aerith Gainsborough, the last descendant of the Cetra—an ancient race of vampire slayers whose Holy Water once sealed away the vampire ancestress, Jenova. But unlike the others who see vampires as nothing but monsters, Aerith has a different purpose. She believes in coexistence, in a future where humans and vampires no longer wage war. And for her, the battle is personal—because the one she loves walks among the creatures they are sworn to eradicate.

As ancient grudges awaken and the battle for survival intensifies, blood becomes more than a means to live—it holds the power to shape fate itself. When the final night falls, will vengeance or hope prevail?

Next is CHARACTERS PROFILE. Inspired by official character introductions, I believe it's just as important to do the same—especially since this fanfic is completely an Alternate Universe. There’s no Lifestream, no mako, no SOLDIER—yet it remains a fantasy world, distinct from our own reality despite the familiar theme of vampires.

HUMAN CHARACTERS
"The thing I fear the most is that I am not what I'm used to be. Tifa, I'm still a human, right?"

Cloud is the main protagonist, a man driven by vengeance against Sephiroth—the vampire who slaughtered his mother and wiped out his entire village. But there’s a gap in his memory—three lost months, a void he cannot fill. By the time he finds himself in Midgar, he barely recalls how he got there. Reuniting with Tifa, his childhood friend, he accepts her invitation to join AVALANCHE, a group of vampire hunters waging war against Shinra’s hidden coven. Yet, in the depths of his mind are fragmented dreams—hazy impressions of warmth, of a voice calling his name, of someone who was there in his darkest moments. A presence that should be familiar, but is now lost to him.

Though outwardly reserved and often gruff, Cloud possesses a quiet empathy for his comrades, understanding the pain of those who lost their beloved one at the hands of vampires. He is a skilled martial artist, and his years of rock climbing in Mt. Nibel granted him remarkable agility and upper body strength. His protective instincts toward Tifa run deep, especially because he's haunted by the nightmare that she died in the massacre, though he never openly admits that he romantically loves her. She is his anchor, the one thing that still feels real in his fractured existence. Because of that, he was afraid that she would hate him, afraid that he's no longer human, turned into the very monster he despises and endanger everyone he loves. What if it's the truth he buries deeply in his memory?
"I hate vampires. and you too, all of you!"

Tifa is Cloud's childhood friend who also has feelings for him. They both practice martial arts together under Zangan's tutelage. While Cloud worked as a mountain guide, she helped her father run their inn, leading an ordinary, peaceful life in Nibelheim. But that life was shattered in a single night of horror. She found her father and neighbors slaughtered. But the most harrowing sight—the one forever seared into her memory—was Cloud being cut down by Sephiroth right before her eyes as he tried to protect her. She barely survived, rescued by Zangan and taken to Midgar, where she tried to rebuild her life.

When she reunites with Cloud, she is overwhelmed with relief—but also confusion and unease. She believed he was dead. And yet, here he stands, stronger than she ever remembers him being, despite only three months having passed. A nagging suspicion lingers in her mind, but she pushes it aside. Cloud is here. He’s alive. And after everything she’s lost, she refuses to question it—afraid that if she does, she might lose him all over again.
"You're a cocky bastard! All of us here have the same fate and hatred as you, you know! Humans are endangered, we must save them."

Barret is the founder and leader of Neo-AVALANCHE, a resistance group dedicated to eradicating vampires and protecting humanity. Once, he lived a peaceful life in the village of Corel with his wife, until a vampire shattered everything. His wife was taken—just another meal to a creature of the night. But the horror didn’t stop there. His neighbor best friend and his wife were also slaughtered, leaving behind their orphaned daughter, Marlene. Barret took her in, vowing to protect her and ensure no other child suffered the same fate.

Unlike Cloud, who is fueled by personal vengeance, Barret fights under the banner of salvation. To him, vampires are nothing but parasites, and wiping them out is the only way to secure humanity’s future. However, as the leader of a newly formed resistance, his knowledge of vampires is limited—he knows them only by the traits everyone fears: fangs, bloodlust, red eyes, deathly pale skin, and a weakness to sunlight. At first, he is dismissive of Aerith, unwilling to put trust in a seemingly fragile girl. But when he realizes her knowledge of vampires far surpasses his own—especially when it comes to killing them—he swallows his pride and accepts her into the fight.
"Why are vampires and humans enemies? Aren't we both Gaia creatures?"

Aerith becomes entangled in the conflict when she crosses paths with Cloud during one of his vampire hunts. Her cheerful demeanor and delicate appearance mask an air of mystery—she knows far too much about vampires and, strangely, harbors no fear of them. She is, in fact, the last descendant of the Cetra, an ancient lineage of vampire hunters blessed with the ability to sanctify water through prayer, turning it into a deadly weapon against vampires. Yet, despite carrying this power—and the painful truth that vampires took her mother, Ifalna—this is never the reason she insists on joining AVALANCHE. She doesn't view human and vampire as white and black.

At first, Barret resists her involvement. Lacking combat skills, Aerith seems more of a liability than an asset. However, her vast knowledge of vampires proves invaluable. More than that, she seems to sense something within Cloud, something hidden in the depths of his fractured memories. His presence stirs a strange familiarity in her, as if she sees her missing boyfriend in him. She never loses the hope to ever see him again, a love that never fade and is carried for the rest of her life. Though, her tendency to stay close to Cloud unintentionally makes Tifa quietly jealous sometimes
"I know you want my help because I'm so good!"

Yuffie is a vibrant and spirited young woman, leaving her isolated homeland of Wutai in search of adventure. As the daughter of Wutai’s Governor, she is expected to stay in her home country and uphold its legacy. However, Wutai has remained untouched by the vampire scourge for over centuries, thanks to a precious secret: silver mining. While vampires' vulnerability to silver is well-known to those with knowledge of Cetra and vampire lore, it’s kept hidden from the general public—and even former AVALANCHE members.

Despite her father’s warnings about the dangers of the outside world, Yuffie rebels, eager to prove her strength and carve her own path. She sets off accompanied by her trusted friend and guardian, Sonon Kusakabe. But her reckless adventure turns into tragedy when vampires attack, and Sonon dies protecting her. The loss forces Yuffie to confront the reality her father tried to shield her from—Wutai may be safe, but the rest of the world is drowning in bloodshed.
"I don't give a rat's ass whether it's science or supernatural power—I'll make it work."

Cid once worked for ShinRa Inc. as one of their top engineers. However, he walked away from the company, disgusted by their corporate greed and their stranglehold over the planet’s technological advancements. Instead, he chose to run his own business in Rocket Town, where he built and repaired engines and vehicles, keeping his skills out of Shinra’s clutches.

But Cid's mechanical prowess isn’t limited to it—he once dabbled in weapon crafting, a skill that led him to unusual clients years ago: Aerith's mother, Ifalna, and former AVALANCHE's members. His expertise in technology navigates complex situations that require more than just brute force.

WEREWOLF CHARACTER
"I'm Nanaki, the son of brave Seto... I'm not afraid of Sephiroth..."

Nanaki is a werewolf captured and subjected to brutal experiments by Shinra’s mad scientist, Hojo, for decades. Unlike vampires, werewolves do not require human blood for survival—their diet primarily consists of animal proteins, though human flesh is not entirely off-limits. However, werewolves have long been divided. Centuries ago, a devastating civil war erupted between two factions: the Gi Tribe, who allied with vampires and embraced their monstrous nature, and the tribe led by Nanaki’s father, Seto, who sought peace and coexistence with any living creature. The war nearly wiped out their kind, leaving only a few survivors scattered across the world.

Due to Hojo’s relentless experimentation, Nanaki has lost the ability to shift back into his human form, forever trapped in his wolf-like state. However, his enhanced senses make him invaluable—he can detect vampires from afar, identifying them by scent or aura.

VAMPIRE CHARACTERS
"I’m the chosen one. This city... No. This planet will be mine."

Born as a Pureblood vampire, Sephiroth is never meant to be just another ruler in the shadows. He is the pinnacle of his kind, the strongest of his generation. He gains reputation as such for hunting and killing one of the most dangerous Cetras, Masamune, in Wutai when he was young. Though, unlike his predecessors, he did not seek power through bloodshed, detached from the wars of humans and vampires alike. Instead, he wandered, watching the world shift across centuries, untouched by the passage of time, living in silence. Beneath his composed exterior, Sephiroth still bore the scars of abandonment—left behind by his mother, Lucrecia, for loving a human.

His quiet detachment began to unravel as one by one, his Pureblood kin—Genesis, Angeal, and Lazard—fell to their fate, succumbing to the monstrous transformation. Though he refused to kill them himself, leaving that burden to his youngest kin—Zack, Sephiroth fought alongside him, hunting others who shared the same fate. Yet with every battle, a question burned in his mind: Would he be next? Thus, he was consumed by the need to surpass the fate that had doomed his kin, by attaining a true vampire form like their ancestress, Jenova. To evolute, not degrade. The secret of her lies on the basement of an abandoned vampire mansion hidden at the other side of Nibel mountain.
"You're wrong, Sephiroth! Vampires are weaker than humans. We need them to live but they don't need us."

Zack is the youngest Pureblood vampire, having spent most of his life hunting down Genesis—a former Pureblood who degraded into a Chiromorph—over the course of half a decade. Upon returning to the Coven, he is shaken to learn from his father, Angeal, that Genesis was not the only one. More Purebloods are succumbing to the same fate, a phenomenon now known as the Pureblood Crisis. Zack builds a reputation as a relentless Chiromorph hunter, marking him as one of the strongest vampires in history and trusted by Sephiroth. Yet with every battle, he lost in frustration and weighed down by questions no one could answer. That's when he crosses path with Aerith—a girl unafraid of him, who instead pities their inability to witness the beauty of the azure sky, as direct sunlight would reduce vampires to ashes. That reason alone gives him solace and makes him fall in love with her, sealing his fate.

Zack follows Sephiroth in seeking a cure for their crisis. This decision takes him to Nibelheim—Cloud and Tifa’s hometown. But Sephiroth’s true intentions are far from what he expected, forcing Zack into a battle against the very man he once admired and trusted. He has been missing ever since.
"This is the art of science and I'm a genius who can change your destiny."

As Sephiroth's father, Hojo is the one who planted the seed of his son's deep-seated abandonment issues toward Lucrecia. He is as old as President Shinra—both over a thousand years old—yet unlike the younger generation of Purebloods, his strength has long waned. What he lacks in physical prowess, however, he makes up for in knowledge. As the second generation of Pureblood, Hojo is well-versed in the ancient war between his ancestress, Jenova, and the Cetra, and he has spent centuries hunting down the remaining Cetra bloodline to ensure their extinction—including Aerith’s mother, Ifalna.

Hojo is also responsible for one of the most horrific advancements in vampire history: the creation of Slave Vampires. By injecting Pureblood blood into dying humans, he devised a method to forcibly turn them into lesser vampires, stripping them of their will and making them utterly obedient. This practice, once exclusive to Purebloods, became industrialized under Shinra’s rule, with humans being turned into Slaves in Hojo’s labs—whether to serve as concubines to reproduce and expand vampire's population or as an expendable army. Among his many failed experiments, one success stood out: Vincent Valentine, the first recorded Slave in history.
"You just play around. Why don't you just turn that girl into a vampire like us?"

As the current leader of the Turks, Tseng rose to his position after the death of his predecessor, Veld, at the hands of the original AVALANCHE. Unlike many of his kind, Tseng holds a moderate stance toward humans, showing no particular malice—except toward Vampire Hunters, for whom he has no mercy. As a descendant of the Slave bloodline, his loyalty to the Purebloods is absolute, bound by the very nature of his lineage.

Despite his duty, Tseng once questioned Zack about Aerith—as a Pureblood, why not turn her into his vampire bride instead of concealing their relationship? Vampire hierarchy comes to use as Zack trusted Tseng enough to confide in him, making him swear to protect Aerith in his absence. Though he regrets Aerith’s decision to aid the new AVALANCHE, he remains unfailingly gentle with her when she is taken to the Coven.
"I will run this company with an iron fist. I will control humans in the city’s darkness."

Rufus is the second son of President Shinra but his mother was his father's favorite Slave. Thus, in the rigid hierarchy of vampire society, he is considered inferior to those born from two pureblood parents like his older brother, Lazard. But after Lazard’s death as Chiromorph, Rufus is given the position as Vice President. Rufus resents his father’s suffocating rule and the way he was treated, so he’s secretly funding the old AVALANCHE to seize the throne. His trusted confidant, Tseng, eventually uncovers this truth through his investigations. However, rather than betraying Rufus, Tseng chooses to remain loyal. The two have been childhood friends, and Tseng understands the cruelty Rufus endured under his father—perhaps even sympathizing with his cause.

Rufus proposes a radical plan to control Midgar, aiming to manipulate the city’s energy infrastructure, ensuring that all humans are dependent on Shinra’s artificial electricity to survive. His vision is to keep the population living under the plate, where sunlight never reaches, allowing vampires to roam freely while maintaining their dominance. Though his actions may seem cruel to humanity, his true goal is not destruction but control—a world where non-pureblood like him can exist securely without fear of extinction.
"Mr. President, I'm asking you reconsider. We don't particularly want the public to lose their trust in our company."

Among Shinra’s top executives, Reeve is the only one with a genuine concern for the human employees under the company’s rule. While the other department heads see people as disposable resources or food, Reeve struggles with the weight of the truths he must hide. He has grown weary of covering up the increasing number of “workplace accidents”—human workers vanishing without a trace, only for their families to be fed lies about tragic mishaps. In reality, these unfortunate souls have fallen victim to the vampire nests hidden within Shinra’s factories and corporate buildings.

Reeve conducts secret experiments in his department, developing synthetic blood supplements—capsules that mimic the nutrients found in human blood. Rufus is aware of his research but allows it as long as Reeve’s idealism remains beneficial to the vampire race, funding him instead. He also operates from the shadows through Cait Sith, a robotic bat designed to gather intelligence. Through Cait Sith, he monitors the movements of Cloud and his companions
"Hey, Cetra, tell me... Is it a sin to love a vampire?"

If Zack is a vampire who falls in love with humans, Vincent is the opposite. Hundreds of years ago, he fell in love with Lucrecia, Sephiroth's mother. Lucrecia made Vincent to be her donor but Hojo discovered their secrecy then used Vincent to be Slave's experimental material. After enduring horrible experiences and can’t find her anymore, Vincent came to believe that she had punished herself, choosing to disappear within the Cetra’s sacred basin, never to be seen again. With nothing left, he entombed himself in the coffin beneath the abandoned vampire mansion in Mt. Nibel, slumbering for centuries—until Cloud and his companions unknowingly awaken him.

If Cloud seeks revenge against Sephiroth, Vincent's hatred is reserved for Hojo. And so, he joins their fight. But something about Cloud unsettles him—a familiar presence, an echo of his own cursed existence. Could the blond be a Slave Vampire just like him? But he dismisses the thought. After all, Cloud can still walk in the daylight.
A pivotal figure whose name lingers like a curse—the catalyst of the Pureblood Crisis. Genesis was the first Pureblood vampire to succumb to Chiromorph Degradation, a transformation that turned him into a mindless, savage beast, never again able to regain his former self. His downfall became the foundation of a monster myth, a warning of what awaited their kind. When the order came to eliminate him, Sephiroth and Angeal refused, unable to bring themselves to slay their old friend. The responsibility instead fell to the youngest one, Zack, who was forced to hunt Genesis down. But Genesis was only the beginning. One by one, Sephiroth and Zack bore witness as other Purebloods met the same fate, shaking them to their very core in different ways. One desperately yearning to be human, and one seeking the way to transcend their fate.

NOTES: For story sake, I have to reverse some characteristic and background such as Aerith who isnt afraid of sky but Zack, Angeal who is Zack's father, Lazard who is Shinra's legitimate son, not Rufus, etc.

Do you feel intrigued? Well, I hope all of this introduction sparks your excitement and curiosity, compelling you to turn the next page of the story. If you do, click this:

I'm not usually a fan of vampire stuff, but I must say I am intrigued! I'm always amazed at the people that can come up with so much original stuff for stories like this. I'm just not that creative. Kudos to you and I'll be sure to give it a read!
