But they started it, they should finish it. I think it reflects worse on them to just quit, especially the way they ended Dirge. They've got one chance to end it on a high note, and they should try. If it sucks, it changes nothing. But if they do well, then everything will improve. They've nothing to lose, really.

See, that's the problem. Is it even possible to make a good sequel to something that was bad? Wouldn't that be like building a shiny new house on a foundation made of crusty turds? Vincent's my favourite character, but DoC was still a pretty shitty game with a pretty shitty story.

Cutscenes were pretty, though. Mm, CGI Reeve.

YMMV, of course, but I really hated how they made his Turk-self so uncertain and, well, emo. It didn't help that DoC made me absolutely despise Lucrecia, and therefore wonder at all the shit Vincent was willing to take from her.

Did they really? What I've read and heard was that it was a retcon so people who hadn't bothered getting Vincent or Yuffie when they played the game don't get totally confused.

Not just a sequel. SE has been pumping out lesser quality work for a while now. If they get their act together (which I suspect they can), SE can redeem themselves and FFVII. As far as sequels go, I wouldn't care if they made a sequel to every damn FF game. If it's good quality, what's the diff. If it's bad quality, then it's just more of the same crap and I'm the asshole that keeps feeding it.

This. Cliffhangers only work if you intend to unhang them. Leaving it as is makes them look a million times dumber than another a bad sequel.

Uncertain! That was his whole thing. That he did nothing to stop her. It was just expanding on that. I didn't have a problem with Turk Vincent. Also, he was hot.

I thought it was bc they weren't in the final FMV, so if they are canon characters why aren't they there. That was their way of explaining it.

Technically Crisis Core is a sequel to Dirge of Cerberus (released afterwards), and while the collection of jaded naysayers that is TLS slam it, that game was a critical success. AC Complete also came out afterwards and was an improvement.

That said, yes, they still have yet to truly prove themselves as being able to make a console game this generation. But the Compilation has improved from where it started. It's not just a tailspin.

I just think, though, that before they go and make another sequel or prequel or even a remake they need to sit down and get their goddamn storyline straight, and if they're not going to do that then I just wish they'd leave it alone.

Oh, and don't present the story in Datalog format. I liked FFXIII and all, but damn, that was pretty fail.

Well I think that they took a break was a good move for that very reason. Take some time to actually think before just slamming it out.

And I don't think the novellas read too differently in Japanese. But the Cases of Barret, Tifa, Denzel, and Shinra were all good. Only Yuffie and Red were lacking.

As for the opening of Dirge, I was sure I remembered some later interview where Nomura said that it must go in after the raid on Midgar. As I think it was Dirge's writer that said it was during the final scene. But I just went through all our Dirge stuff and I can't find it. Am I imagining this?

Honestly I thought it was during the raid on Midgar...Meteor doesn't look as close as it did in the ending. And it was raining after the raid, it wasn't raining during the ending, but there were lightning strikes and tornadoes.

This, please. The fight scene against Bahamut was sick and all but I'd like to see some actual dialogue and meaningful interaction between the group as a whole.

And oh my lordy Go-Go Vincent is fun to watch but you don't have a cutscene with Cloud and Rosso charging at each other and then not show any of their fight just because Vincent is the star.
