I'm curious to know what you guys' second favorites are. I did a second favorite poll rather than a favorite poll because I knew there would be a large number of people with VII as their favorite and I'm sure favorite FF polls have been done on this site before. Anyway, my second favorite is FFIV. I'll admit nostalgia is part of the reason I love it so much, since it was the first FF I ever got really far in, but I also love it so much for so many other reasons. The music is great and some of the best in FF, it's got so many awesome characters(such as Edge, Kain, Golbez, Rosa, etc.), it set a lot of milestones in FF(such as being the first to have a romantic subplot, the first to have a love triangle, the first to have a playable Cid, the first to have moar than three battle themes, the first to have non-8-bit music, the first to allow moar than 4 people in your party, the first to have a prominent villain, etc.), it had a lot of funny moments and easter eggs(Troia strippers, anyone?), it had an interesting plot, and most importantly, it was a fun and enjoyable gaming experience. But I still like VII better, because it had better music, better characters(Cloud, Tifa, and Cid are all in my top 5 FF characters, while Edge is the only IV character in my top 5 FF characters, though Kain's in the top 6), a better plot, funnier moments and easter eggs(Stretched panties, anyone?), it also set a lot of milestones in the FF characters(such as being the first to be a modern RPG, the first to have a love triangle that isn't resolved from the start, the first to use 3D models, the first not to be subjected to NOA's censorship rules, the first to have a protagonist with a single mom(single dad had been done before though, with Bartz and Cecil, though the latter's was his foster father), the first to have a black main character,etc.), and most importantly, it was the most fun and enjoyable gaming experience I've ever had, a title it shares with EarthBound and Mother 3. So what's your second favorite FF, why do you like it so much, and why do you like your favorite better?
