Where did Zack's body go?

I was reading this thread (http://thelifestream.net/forums/showthread.php?t=6166), and I got to the point where people were discussing the issue of Zack calling Cloud his 'living legacy'. Thinking about the issue, and watching the relevant parts of both CC and the OG again, it made me think of a different issue.

Where's Zack's body? What happened to it?

Was it just left there until Cloud came along after the OG, and he buried the tattered clothes and bones? Or was it taken by someone?

(PS. If the mods think that this should be moved or merged, feel free to do so).

He was probably dragged off by scavenger-type creatures. Nerosuferoth's probably. unless he was at too high an altitude, in which case buzzards got him.

Yeah, physical bodies always turn into sparkly green particles in FFVII at some point after they die. Easy cleanup.

Really???? Is that considered canon now.

Ugh. That's so dumb.

That's also a plot hole. Bugenhagen describes a less stupid, canonical, actually logical decomposition method.

"Eventually... all humans die. What happens to them after they die?
The body decomposes, and returns to the Planet. That much everyone knows. What about their consciousness, their hearts and their souls?
The soul too returns to the Planet." - Bugenhagen

This wouldn't be news to anyone if every dead person exploded into ethereal green soul tendrils. The entire concept of the story is about caring for the abstract instead of the immediately evident. Nobody would use mako energy because it would be abundantly clear as to what it was. Cosmo Canyon wouldn't be a hidden enclave of outcasts, and there would be no Gongagan or Corel cemeteries. Moreover, any shades of grey among Shinra employees would be removed entirely. In FFVII Shinra are victims of a socialization that deplores abstract concepts and focuses on tangible results. A universe in which bodies become sparkling vapor is not a universe that would support this worldview.

Also, there are skeletons in the coffins in the Shinra mansion basement. :P

We've only seen G-clones explode into green sparklies so it's probably because of that.
Even though that's still kinda stupid imo.

And Kadaj?

Kadaj started out as sparkly green vapor, though, then it became non-sparkly black vapor, then reverted to sparkly green vapor.

Other than Genesis copies, Angeal copies and Grimoire Valentine (whose body was eaten by stagnated mako), no other non-remnant humans have been shown to explode into sparkles.

The Turks buried Zack's body. Whatever you may think of them, they're not complete arseholes, and Tseng liked Zack. They buried it in a place where Hojo couldn't find it to dig it up and keep experimenting on it. Either that, or they destroyed it with Firaga or suchlike and for the same reason.

That's plausible. Is that in BC? Even if it weren't, when it comes to the Turks, Lic is basically word of god.

Square seems to roll with whatever is most dramatically appropriate at the time. You need to find President Shinra's body, so it stays.

My headcanon is that Mako enhancements have a side effect of dissolving the enhanced person on death. We see it happen to Hollander, Lazard, etc. So Zack would have dissolved.

I just had a sudden image of Hojo being like that one dog that keeps digging up dead animals in your backyard.

The only people I'm okay with dissolving on the spot were Kadaj - because he wasn't corporeal in the first place - and Sephiroth because I can accept that when you're IN the Lifestream, "returning to the Planet" takes no time at all.

Grimoire could be plausible if the stagnant Lifestream's like devouring him or something I guess, but really who cares :P

Ruvi sticks around as well, and Angeal. And, like I said in the other thread, FF7 pretty well implies that the commonfolk don't know what the Lifestream is between Bugenhagen having to explain it to you and Elmyra's comment about the stars. If everyone was always turning into the same stuff that that's coming out of reactors or going into their cars or whatever, you'd think someone would start to put two and two together.

I do maintain that Zack's body remained even in Crisis Core's version of events. We see his soul flying around and stuff but I don't think that's indicative of his body dissolving, he would have done so immediately after passing - going by the others.

I like to rationalize it to myself like so: pure mako makes organic material live, so the stagnant version rapidly decays it, leaving nothing but the pure spirit energy that had been inhabiting the vessel. :monster:

Seconded.

If normal people dissolved, solving murder cases in the world of FFVII would be a real bitch.

And thus, the Detective Joe storyline was scrapped.

My headcanon is actually the same as Clement's - that Zack is so full of mako his body dissolves. But before he dissolves, he dies a very painful death: all the blood in his body slowly drains through his multiple bullet wounds - even though his wounds heal, they don't heal instantaneously - and eventually there's nothing left in his veins but mako, which is horribly painful, like liquid valium.

Sometimes I doubt this planet's commitment to Sparkle Motion :awesomonster:
