Wild TLS Member Wants To Battle!

Once upon a time in the TLS Region, a group of trainers decided to form their own Regional Pokemon League. Unfortunately, they shared a number of limitations with the Unova Region and interest began to wane. Then one day the self-proclaimed Master of the Dark-type tried to get things going again. This is his attempt...

Ok yeah, being more serious now. I have once again edited my OP here so that info is up to date in the very first post of the thread. Further changes will be made to keep us up to date as the membership changes and/or other decisions are made.

We are looking to sign up a max of 12 folks from our fair community to participate in our very own Pokemon League via Wi-Fi battles, as was once suggested in the Most Important Topic thread. Anyone who wishes to sign up should get in touch with me, since I seem to be the organizer for the League at this point. You're also welcome/encouraged to post a reply in this thread giving your type-specialty/theme preference and friend code. Friend Codes can also be sent to me via PM and I will add it along with your other info to our list. But, that'd be sorta pointless since if you're going to be in the league, that means accepting challenges which means your FC goes public anyway :monster:

We were in the midst of a tournament to decide rank among the League in order to decide who is a Gym Leader and who is Elite Four a while back. That... sorta went south due to real life issues hitting our membership from multiple sides. Said tournament still needs to be completed to sort out the members we have signed up already. Tourney rules specify that Pokemon must be level 50 or higher, no doubles or doubled items allowed, no uber-level mons. Teams must be built around a theme of some sort. Most commonly this would be a type specialty as seen among the Gym Leaders and Elites in the games. These teams could include up to two Pokemon not of that type, provided they know a move of that type to fit their theme. Other suggested themes included all rodent mons, an all Eeveelution team, teams built around Baton Pass or weather control moves or abilities, etc.

During the initial discussion of this idea there were questions posed about limits on teams. We did decide that nicknames for Pokemon are fine, with a prohibition against naming them after other Pokemon in order to be tricky (such as, for instance, giving a Charizard the name Onix in order to lure out Grass-types). We also discussed members potentially having/using more than six Pokemon: Like in the games, every Gym Leader or Elite Four member should have a clearly defined team that is used on any trainer's first challenge against them. For rematches however, shaking up the team membership would be fine so long as they still fit the theme (for instance, I would use a combination of the mons in my current sig the first time I fought anybody, but might sub in my Weaville or Houndoom the second time).

Battle rules are different and rather lame in this generation, rather than raising levels to 100 the Flat option instead drops them to 50, or leaves them as is if they are under 50 to begin with. There are also limits on the number of mons you can bring to the fight in Flat Battles, Single Battles only allow Three Pokemon, while Double/Rotation allow Four, and Triples allow for the full Six. These rules are less than ideal, and I thusly offered to remove those who have signed up from my lists. No one took that option, so at present we have the following confirmed members:

Gym Leader Devil - Dark-Type
Gym Leader Kris - Ice-Type
Omega - Steel-Type
Feferi - Dragon-Type
Tiff aka "That Chick What Changes Her Name Too Much" - Bug-Type
Clicky Person - Grass-type
DrakeClawfang - Flying-type

All types not on the above list are open to be claimed, as are the team builds not entirely oriented on type. If you are considering joining the elite trainers of TLS in this venture, choose a theme quick before someone else grabs it!

So, that about brings us up to date for now. Details about the tournament's continuation/partial do-over will be added as decisions are made.

Oops, totally forgot, make sure you remind everyone what your type specialty is when you sign up. I called dibs on Dark, and am sticking to it.

Tiff, tried to add you to my pal pad and it claims your friend code is wrong, not sure what's up with that.

Aki, not sure if serious and if so how much but if you look at your pal pad it'll tell you your friend code. Otherwise forgive me for not getting the joke :awesome:

WTF that's what it says when I turn the game on, I just double checked. ;_;
Well, shit sucks because I don't know how to fix that and I'm too lazy to fix it. xD Weird though, because I had to trade with someone to get Scyther and it was someone who I had traded friend codes with so whatever. -STARES ANGRILY-

tho if I joined it would be impossible for me to choose a type... xD Since I don't have a specific type that I use consistently.

I didn't either, I always train balanced teams for the game itself. But when this League was suggested, I immediately thought "Fire or Dark!" and since I always get the Fire-starter (I have ALL of them hahahaha!) I went with Dark.

Try adding me on your DS and see if it works, I'll keep trying yours. Even if you don't join we can still do trades and battles.

Sweet. Totally putting a list together for this. Also gonna go ahead and design a gym badge under the assumption I will not make the Elite Four. :monster:

If I had a wi-fi router, I would totally be all over this.

And by the way, the title should be "A wild TLS MEMBER appeared!" or "You are challenged by the TLS League"

FOR SHAME. :@

Sucks, with that name and avatar you'd be a shoe-in for Champion. Or at least, ex-Champ who hangs out in the snow all day on a forbidden mountain for no clear reason. :monster: Well, if you ever get wi-fi you know where to find us.

In the meantime, we got 2 slots filled, maybe 3 if Brooke is still with us as a Ghost-type specialist. We need 9 or 10 more for a fully staffed League, unless we decide to downscale the gyms in the TLS Region due to lack of trainers.

Took a second look and noticed I already have you in my pal pad Aki. Are you signing up for the tournament/TLS League?

I can agree in some cases (Scolipede and Yanmega not so much... though still awesome) with the cute comment. Got you on the list. That makes three or four depending on Brooke!

For anyone still considering, we still have 13 types unclaimed for sure: Normal, Grass, Water, Fire, Poison, Psychic, Fighting, Flying, Rock, Ground, Electric, Ice, and Dragon. I know we had someone who wanted to do a couple of these, but totally cannot remember who they were atm. So if you want in on this sweet sweet Pokemon action, lemme know so I can add you to the list before someone swipes your type!

I was Ice (I dithered on Psychic, but thought more people would want that type) and Aki had called Dragon.

Will post my friend code soon.

Adding you and Aki to the list (your Brooke created signature makes it so clear in my memory now!) Also mad props for the Glaceon, I have one on my Elite Four Domination Team myself. My nephew learned to just sigh regretfully and resign himself to losing when 'Scicle took the field most of the time. :monster: That makes 6 of us if Aki and Brooke are still in, so we're totally (potentially) halfway there!

Also, since I took it upon myself to try and reinvigorate this project, and make up the list and such, I guess I'll try to keep this well organized. To keep people from having to dig through this thread for friend codes, everyone who wants to sign up is free to PM said code to me. I'll be happy to distribute it to anyone who needs them for League business. Or perhaps we can sticky it (or whatever its called when the info is always on top of the first page of the thrad?) for easier reference? Totally open to ideas, I so do not claim to be in charge. I just have the utmost enthusiasm for the mission, Dave.

But it means putting the hat on leads to brain freeze. =/

For that alone, I salute you.

Or, ya know, make one of the dipshit gym leaders from over in Unova do it for me. Whichever.

Crap, I had somewhat forgotten that (which is odd since Red totally brought up lack of wi-fi). Does everyone who has signed up so far have wi-fi they can connect to for battles? I do, and it is reliable the vast majority of the time, but we do need to make sure if we can.

Oh not that, I mean the fact that you either have everyone lowered to level 50 and only 3 pokes, or all pokes but random levels. THAT was the problem before that I think kind of made everyone not interested any more.

Ok I remember what you're talking about now Brooke. Sorry about the mix up there, I been up all night with a toothache. I touched on this in the first post of this thread. As a recap, since the option to do all level 100's with a full team got removed for some ridiculous reason this gen, this is what we have to work with:

All Pokemon can either be left at the level you trained them to in the game with only the restrictions we agree to (no doubles, no doubled items, no ubers, etc), or they can be set to Flat Battle mode where anything above level 50 is set to 50 exactly, with rules like no doubles or "Special" Pokemon enforced by the game itself. Obviously the open level battles wouldn't work, at least not right away. The issue is, when they're set to flat the number of Pokemon allowed in the battle changes to...

A.) If you want to do Single Battles for your Gym or Elite Four challenge, you'll sadly be restricted to 3 Pokemon total on each side.
B.) For Double or Rotation Battles, 4 Pokemon can be used on each side.
C.) Triple Battles allow a full team of 6 for each trainer.

Now, the new battle rules do indeed suck. I wish we could go back to the Gen IV battle system where we could do this at either level 50 or 100 for flat battles, and I wish we had the option of having six Pokemon in all battle types. It would make more sense, and obviously we all want to use a full team. Sadly, they apparently wanted Gen V to be different and shit and we're all suffering for it with regards to battling.

Anyway, I still want to do this. I suggested this earlier, I think, but I say we do Single Battles to determine rank within the League as planned, using 3 Pokemon each as required by this generation's ridiculous rules for under level 50 flat battles. Then, each Gym Leader or Elite Four member can decide if they want their Gym/Challenge to be Single, Double, or Triple (I recommend leaving out Rotation as an option, since its kind of a weird blend of Single and Triple rules, but I'm open to leaving it on the table if people want it).

Aside from how we determine ranks, which could be done differently, this is honestly about the only option we have. At least until everyone involved has their desired mons up to level 100 so we could do No Restrictions, anyway. And aside from folks already sitting on level 100 pokeymanz (many of which wouldn't be right for their chosen type specialty anyway), who has time to do that much leveling in the near future?

But, I totally get that that might not appeal to everyone. If anyone wants me to take their name off the list instead of working around the rules Game Freak stuck us with, just let me know and I'll take care of it.

And, just in case I never get an opportunity to use this, I present to you all....

The Evil Badge!
