Would things have turned out differently?

I got this idea from a thread that jazzflower had created and I just wondered if Lucrecia had brought up Sephiroth would he have turned out differently?

I know there's not many fans of her and her actions annoyed a lot of people (myself included) but out of her and Hojo she really is the lesser of two evils.

Speaking of Hojo. Did he not raise Sephiroth as his child because Sephiroth was property of ShinRa? (That's what I always assumed)

Lucrecia would have probably have had to gone into hiding with her son and be always moving all the time. Obviously she would need some help from Shinra employees who would sympathize with her and would offer to cover for her.

I don't know. From his portrayal in CC, it kind of seemed like Sephiroth had a bit of "normalcy" within himself, but he completely snapped when he came across the truth of what had been done to him. He always knew he was different somehow, right? He was just so powerful. Even if Lucrecia had had a hand in raising him, I don't know if that would have changed his reaction to finding out about JENOVA.

EDIT:

Why would she have gone into hiding, though? I kind of imagine that she might have just worked with Hojo and Shin-ra...unless I'm completely forgetting something obvious here?

What I mean was if she decided that she didn't want to go through with the project anymore after injecting her son with Jenova's cells and didn't want her son to be raised as a property of Shin-ra.

Hmmmm, I think if Lucrecia had had the opportunity to raise Sephiroth things may have turned out slightly differently, but only if she hid from Shinra. And even then maybe not, because it really depends on the whole nature/ nurture argument.

Did he snap because of the Jenova cells or because he was never really loved by anyone? Because he constantly felt like a freak as a child and everyone feared him? Would it have been any different if Lucrecia had grown a set of balls and even just had a presence in his childhood? There's no real way to know, but I like to think if he'd formed a bond with his mother he wouldn't be so quick to kill everyone on the planet.

His lack of a parental figure did affect him emotionally and socially as a person. In fact it seems that in his early life there were no sources of great emotional attachment. The only person who he mentions is Gast who seems to be implied to only been in his younger life for a short time.

I don't think normal would be the right word because a lot of signs seems to point to the fact that there seems to be some hidden mental issues going on with the guy.

Not to mention he was created at first to make an artificial Cetra and when he didn't display any powers he was then trained since he was young to be the perfect warrior. There is a good indication that his childhood was spent being studied, trained, and educated to be Shinra's poster boy with no one around who truly cared for him as a human being.

Also take into consideration that he had drilled into his head that he was special and above the rest. It would give him a sense of pride but at the same time it would make him feel alien to other people.

Lucrecia was a mess herself, it could have gone either way. The whole reason she got into this situation is because she was a weak, confused individual that manipulated and was susceptible to manipulation. She regretted it later but it's really hard to tell if she would be able to not succumb to pressure from Shinra afterwards.

Lucrecia is a tragic character not because she was part of in an inevitable turn of sad events, but because a lot of the terrible things that happened didn't need to happen, but were a result of her foolishness/character flaws. Which is kind of the classic definition of a tragic character. We can't just focus on Sephiroth's personality here, Lucrecia is a variable too.

Sephiroth DID display powers. Angeal and Genesis were deemed normal babies, Sephiroth definitely not, even if he wasn't ultimately able to locate the Promised Land for Shinra.

I actually agree with that sentiment because a lot of things that took place is because of Lucrecia's stupid, selfish, and short sighted decisions. Although some might see her as a misguided angel like Vincent does, people who have less charitable feelings rightfully believe she had a large part to play in this.

It does make one question if Lucrecia would have been a good mother at all if was allowed to see Sephiroth. It has been shown she seems to brush off on good advice from others and often follows behind anyone who can meet her interests. Further more Lucrecia is a very emotional person who often doesn't think clearly about her actions and would probably believe that anything Shinra was doing to her son was for his own good.
