This is off topic, but I MUST say, your avatar is EPIC WIN.

Other than that one time I played (posted earlier), I usually just keep their names, with the exceptions of changing Red XIII to Nanaki, and Aeris to Aerith.
I also renamed Cait Sith to Kett Shee, I was working on getting the pronunciations right.

Oh that's right, I did change Yuffie to Yufi last time I played on the PC. Only reason why I can say her name right now IMO, since for years she was Yuffy the Vampire Slayer.

Fuck Kett Shee. I'mma be stubborn with my Kate Sith.

I just wish I could change "mako" to "mahko."

I'm with you on the Mako thing. I always pronounced it may-ko, and still do unless I catch myself.
I still pronounce it Kate Sith, despite trying not to. And it took a while to convert from Red XIII to Nanaki, and Aeris to Aerith. Dang names >.<

Fuck Aerith, too. That's how it was spelled in English and I feel no worse for saying than than I do for saying Sephiroth instead of Sephirosu. Same reason why I still say loo-kree-sha instead of loo-kret-see-ah. That's how you pronounce "Lucrecia" in English. And I still call Shera/Sierra "Shera." English. I speak it, motherfucker.

Oddly enough, I only say or type Aerith if I'm making it possessive. Aeris goes to the store. Aerith's dress is pink. Aeris's just sounds and looks too weird.

First of all, I wholeheartedly agree with this post. I try to say loo-kret-see-a, but i very frequently fall back on loo-kree-sha. I also use Aeris and Shera.

About the possessive thing, how is Aeris' any more or less awkward than any other name/word that ends in 's' and you make it possessive?

I'm getting acclamated to calling Yuffie You-fee. I recognize that that's how you say it and its Japanese and all that. But I really can't figure out how any english-speaking 10-year-old with no knowledge of Japanese ever said You-fee, because it looks like a freaking short u to me, because of the double f.

And mako is may-ko, shove it, lol. Just because the Japanese can't say "cloud," that doesn't make "kuraodo" the correct pronunciation. It's like mako shark!

And they misspelled Cat Sidhe anyway, so I don't mind saying it phonetically, Cid does in DoC.

Lastly, I've never understood why people change Red XIII to Nanaki. It then makes no sense when Cloud doesn't understand who Nanaki is when you get to Cosmo Canyon.

I never try to rename them now because I'm so used to their names, but I used to back when I first played it in '97.

Cloud- Ash from pokemon because I was all up on that back then!
Tifa- Lily because I liked that name and I liked Tifa a lot.

Then I forgot what I named everybody else, lol.

I think I will rename everybody again when I play it on my PSP (I JUST got it!)

Aeris- Rinoa (because they act the same way to me and they both annoy the hell out of me! )

I've only ever changed a name once...and that was when I named Cloud Sephiroth...that re-play didn't last long...after a while it got confusing.

I have a habit of naming all my main characters 'Kuro', all the male ones anyway, which generally there is only males that take that role. For the other characters I named Tifa as Heather, Yuffie as Breanna, Red XIII as Hammy, Vincent as Bloodfest, Cait Sith as Pilsberry with the name taking it's roots from the Pilsberry doughboy, he kind of looks like him...and Barret as Ryger. I just left Cid's name alone due to how it's traditionally Cid and it fits perfectly well. I forgot what I name Aeris, if I name her at all but she doesn't stick around for long for it to matter much. There is nothing wrong with their original names and I sometimes have them unchanged. It depends on if I feel like changing them or not.

Nope, I'd never changed any of their names. Though the last time I played, I changed Aeris to Aerith. If I could have the chance, I will change them into something like this..

Yuffie = Yuffie (She's already a ninja)

Eh, the only time I actually played through the entire game with a joke name was Red XIII as Nanaki so that scene where he's explaining his real name doesn't make any god damn sense. Other than that I normally use friend's names or don't bother.

I was never good at renaming vgc's, thus I usually stick with their default names. I might have renamed Red XIII to Nanaki just for kicks. Nowadays I rename Aeris to Aerith, since that's the name I'm more famillar with.
