The Most Memorable Moment of the Compilation of FFVII

by January 4, 2010 0 comments

The final round of voting has ended, and the most memorable moment of the Compilation of FFVII has been decided. Throughout the contest, there seemed to have been a decisive struggle between Zack and Aerith’s death vying for the number one spot in each bracket of voting. Now, a decisive winner has emerged from this…..lover’s postmortem rivalry. (A big thanks to our forum user Glaurung for this hilarious and adorable fanart XD)

In the end, Zack’s death and Cloud’s inheritance of the Buster Sword was voted the most memorable moment of the Compilation of FFVII.

Aerith’s death was a close second.

Zack’s DMW destruction in Crisis Core was third place.

And Cloud tossing Sephiroth into the Mako Pit in the Nibelheim Reactor was fourth place.

Were these the results you were expecting? I for one am a bit surprised, but then again not really. Favorite character death usually ends up as one of the most memorable moments in a fan’s perception of a franchise. A big thanks to our users for voicing their opinion and participating in this amusing and rather surprising look into the tastes of FFVII fans here. What will our next vote and contest be about next? Hmm… I guess you’ll just have to wait and see.

I totally agree with the order of the results, and that fanart is a nice touch. Very cute. 😉

I’m not terribly surprised. Truth be told, a lot of fans of the series on this site and otherwise are of a more recent generation in which FFVII was likely played long after it came out, and everyone already knew Aerith dies, lessening the impact. On the other hand, Crisis Core was a new game for the generation and the scene with Zack completely redone and freshly rendered in all its gory, emotional detail. If, on the other hand, the poll was more populated with long-time fans who first played FFVII when it came out and weren’t expecting her death or anything, I’m sure it’d have been voted first.

i don’t know, the destruction of the DMW is a part of Zack’s dying if you ask me. “Zack’s death” includes how it happened right? Well then that makes the DMW a part of that and less of its own “moment”. All the other results I agree with, not just because they were memorable, but because of the overall impact that they had on the plot and the related characters. The “moment” with the DMW is more of a plot device that SE used to explain why Zack couldn’t go invincible any more. Sure, they executed this plot device beautifully, its a plot device all the same. I’m not saying it should be removed from the list, after all people DID none the less vote for it. But I think a more appropriate moment would be something like the death of Angeal or the new climax of Advent Children Complete.

It’s more than just Zack’s death, though, something that we all knew was coming anyway. Cloud inheriting the Buster Sword is also part of that moment, which is unarguably one of the more important happenings of the story. This is when Cloud takes up the mantle and becomes who he is in the original game. It’s not just Zack’s death, it’s Cloud’s transition.

That makes it far more important than Aerith’s death, poignant as that was. I’m sure if the only thing that happened was Zack dieing and there wasn’t such a sense of change on Cloud’s end it would be no different than Aerith, but it is.

I totally agree with the order, personally the one that I was expecting to come out on top.

I do agree with what Rikku says, to some extent. But since Zack’s death lasts more than just two minutes, the sorrow and reminiscing stays longer with the player. Going through an entire game becoming emotionally connected with the character and plot, in my opinion, made Zack’s death a more memorable thing to the players.

I think Part 1 and Part 2 of Zack’s death both getting places in this is little wierd but still good list.

    A fitting list!

Even though I knew Zack’s death would happen, I still found it an incredibly emotional, heartbreaking and powerful moment, especially with Cloud’s anguished scream followed by his Zack-flashbacks…

I miss having Zack (and Aerith) alive with Cloud…what a lovely trio they could have been!

The song “Why” by Ayaka broke my heart,

As well as the moment when Zack died.

    End of Story.

During the rain and Zack’s death, and “Why,” and into the end credits, my tears could not stop flowing. I just finished the game a few days ago (Christmas Eve actually) and I still think about it from time to time. (I’m OK now, though 😉 ) But boy, yeah, that was hard to watch without tears. Most…memorable…FFVII Compilation…moment…ever.

I got so angry when the rookie infantryman just went up to Zack and shot bullets in him for the heck of it. I saw it in the original FFVII, but seeing this in CC I’m like silently, Damnit, what’re you doing, he’s had enough!

Zack was probably Cloud’s best and only buddy there. They were buddies, man! Buddies!
