TheLifestream event- a custom comic book by our Member Dacon

by August 9, 2010 0 comments

And this is art he's not happy with, folks

Do you see this art? This was drawn by a forum member, name of Dacon, an aspiring artist, and a rather awesome person. In addition to his excellent comissions, he’s willing to draw us an entire comic book, roughly 25 pages, of any part of the compilation we as a whole might wish, and to vote on which he draws for us, you can head here in order to tell us which bit you’d like to see.

Now, naturally, such good work isn’t free. Dacon is an artist and should be given some renumeration for his work. So how this is going to work is Dacon has a paypal account at [email protected], so please, donate like $5-$10 bucks to this thing, or more if you like, to support an awesome starving artist, and when we get around $500, he’ll make the comic, and we’ll send it off to everyone who donated, so make sure you give us a legitimate return email.

If you’re reading this in the far future and we’ve already made the comic and released it, just donate some money to Dacon, and we’ll send you a copy as well.

Now then, people, I urge you, get voting, and get donating, and we can get a slice of awesome out of it.

-Ryu

Holy shit, that’s epic. I want more. Just…wow. The detail of the Buster Sword is enough to make me die in fanboy awe.

A comic of this caliber will be wonderful.

Nice drawing. I like it. I’m an artist too. I hope I can do just as good as you Dacon. Keep up the good work!

No, $5-10 per person for 25 pages of that or better, with us moving forward when Dacon gets a certain number of ‘pre-orders.’
You act like expecting Dacon, a superb artist, to get some guarunteed recompense for his work is a terrible thing.

And it is! No one should ever charge cash for making fanart, less pay for it, since both are I-L-L-E-G-A-L.

Johnny, charging for making fanart is not illegal. Comissioned fanart and fancomics of works are perfectly fine, and that’s why places like artists alleys in conventions are no big deal, and why artists charge for comissions quite often.

Plus, there is a legal difference between charging, and giving out a gift for a donation.

Copyright and trademark infringement is illegal, but often overlooked in case of fan works. Still I-L-L-E-G-A-L.

Well Johnny if you don’t want it don’t ruin it for everybody else!
There are people who want this, you know.

PS: I’m a lurker. Not gonna make any donations or anything. But TLS is a really good website 😀

There are no such loopholes. You’re simply bein’ ignorant.
There are better things to spend your money on if you want to support FFVII and the Compilation, like Square Enix’s official stuff. Besides, my best buddy draws FFVII fanart for free all the time. Like this: semna8.webs.com/Happy_Birthday_with_Nanaki_and_Cait.jpg
    And this: semna12.webs.com/Castle_STRIFE.jpg

Just sayin’: No one should be paid (or be given money as a gift) for drawing something consisting of someone elses characters (unless you’re doing it with a license from Square Enix). Doing it for free, just for fun, is a whole other thing.

I said cease your prattling. Loopholes exist. Comissions and such are part of them.

If it makes you feel better, Johnny, think of this as a ‘free fanart comic book’ that you’re being nice about and giving money to the maker for in appreciation of his work.

Cease your ignorance. These kind of comissions are indeed common, but they are not loopholes nor even legal. That’s my point. I won’t say anythin’ more about this project now since I don’t have anythin’ with this place to do.

I never said the comissions were themselves the loopholes. I said there were loopholes that allow for this sort of thing to exist unmolested. Now then, keep to your word and comment no more.

that is awesome. usually, i avoid this kinda stuff like the plague, but… *drools* so high quality… I shall tell ALL my VII otaku friends, and we shall ALL donate! Ya know, because we all support indapendent artists… Despite questions over laws and loopholes and stuff like that.
