While Square Enix hinted earlier in the week that Final Fantasy XV may have sequels or future follow-up games that continue the story, [Tetsuya] Nomura clearly confirms that this will indeed be the case.

“In the trailer, there was a line that read “A World of the Versus Epic,” which suggests that it will be part of an epic. While Final Fantasy XV will have one climax, as a story, we plan to continue it further.”

This, Nomura says, would make it easier for him and the rest of the team to develop freely without having to worry about the story and contents fitting into just one game.

Have your say: are Square Enix getting too far ahead of themselves?

Kingdom Hearts III

Square Enix director Tetsuya Nomura is notorious for announcing his games too early. Let’s not forget that Final Fantasy Versus XIII was announced in 2006 before PS3 even came out, and has yet to be released. In fact, it’s going to be a PS4 game as Final Fantasy XV, Square Enix announced this week.

The publisher also announced another sequel this week: Kingdom Hearts 3. However, Nomura warns fans that “looking at the current development status, I think we may have announced it a little too early. I believe that many fans were feeling impatient due to our continuous releases of spin-off titles, so we decided to announce it at the same time as Final Fantasy XV.”

Have your say: when do you expect to see Kingdom Hearts III?

Although the game’s FMVs appear to be the same as in its PlayStation 2 release, in-game characters show the difference. During lesser cutscenes on the previous release, characters would often appear to have strange, mask-like facial experiences. They were also incapable of expressing any kind of emotion. With the HD remaster, characters now have noticeably improved facial control.

Cutscenes that were typically more animated also have a definite impact on the game’s characters, though not always for the better. Protagonist Tidus now seems to have permanent bags under his eyes, which look unnaturally and almost alarmingly large. The HD remake also adds a few weird hair effects that make it oddly transparent at certain angles.

Have your say: will you be picking up second copies of X and X-2 for the improved graphics?

“Hey, you know what our fans LOVE? Being told about a game and then having years go by and consoles come and go before they see any progress made on it at all. They loved that with Versus, right? Right? Great, let’s do that again!” – Square Enix
