The 2008 Tokyo Game Show has just begun and news regarding the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII has already been released.

Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete News

Square-Enix announced that the collection of short stories from Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, “On the Way to a Smile” will be released in book form, after originally only being published on the official Japanese “On the Way to a Smile” website and the “Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children – Prologue” book. The stories take place in between the the two year gap of the end of Final Fantasy VII and the beginning of Final Fantasy VII Advent Children, and will be the first time all the stories have been together in a single book for Japanese fans. Also included in this book release will be new stories for characters never before released, such as Yuffie, Red XIII and the Turks. A book release has been already done for Western fans with the release of the Limited Edition box set of the movie, however it is unknown if and/or when these new stories will hit Western shores. The North American exclusive story “Case of Barret” will also be included in the Japanese release.

A new Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete trailer was shown in the Square-Enix Closed Mega Theatre today revealing more of the changes and expansions of the director’s cut of the film. New scenes include a longer, more detailed look into Yazoo lurring and transporting the orphans of the slums to be taken to the Forgotten Capital and added Zack flashback screentime incorporating new scenes while Zack and Cloud were on the run from Shinra during Crisis Core. Included in the trailer was the classic truck bed scene with Cloud, Zack, and the truck driver evading pursuing soliders and the truck driver yelling at Zack over gun fire to run and move to a safer place.

Update:

Some snapshot images of the new footage have appeared online.

Update 11 October: The images seem to have been removed from Dissidia-France.com after a takedown notice from Square Enix. We didn’t get a backup of the potion images, sadly.

Neat-o. On Dissidia, are they going to do characters from X-2 (shudder), XI (no real character) or XII (epic)? I’m totally out of the loop btw, perhaps an article on all Dissidia info so far would be neat.

Also, the LBP thing is awesome. I also have no idea what LBP is exactly, :monster:.

If they did one for X-2 they might as well do one for CC, DoC, etc. etc. Which I can’t see them doing. It would be redundant. The series are already represented.

…not that I would be adverse to moar Zack, Genesis, Vincent, and Hojo.

The lack of love for 12 is disappointing. Maybe they wanted to keep an even number and can’t/don’t want to include 13 yet. They could bend the rules a bit and use Tactics, though.

The book version will include other new material in addition to the Barret chapter, such as chapters for Yuffie, the Turks, Red XIII, etc.

They will :p. I dunno how large the eventual book is going to be though, so it might be a load of work.

It’s good to see Terra, but it’s bad that she have blonde hair instead of a green one. Oh well…

And it’s a good idea to release new chapters of “On the Way to a Smile” together with ACC, instead of only releasing an old movie with 30 minutes of new scenes(aka ACC).

I’m still not entirely sure why Jecht is FFX’s villain and not Seymour or something…
