by April 10, 2009 0 comments

We just received news that as of today, Final Fantasy VII International is available on the Japanese PlayStation Store.

The “International Version” included all the additions that were made to the US and European editions of FFVII such as the optional WEAPON battles as well as a few added cutscenes. However, it is in Japanese only.

The game is sold for 1.500 Yen.

I’d buy it if they re-translated the whole game for the international market…

And if they finally made PSN cards. Because I don’t have a credit card.

lol That’s better than the $50 it’s been costing lately to get a copy of FFVII. XD I think I only paid $17 myself, but that was a long time ago before AC made it cool again. 😛

Anyway it’s about time they started doing this. It’ll only be a matter of time before it’s released elsewhere I’m sure.

I wonder how they deal with the whole “3 disc” thing. Anyone know? Three separate icons on the XMB? Or an in-game home button option?

There’s only one XMB icon. Pressing the PS/Home button brings up an option to switch disks for games which included more than one originally.

Why would they do that? It’s probably one continuous game this time.

That would require recoding the game, and based on the games already released, it looks like they uploaded their ISOs pretty much directly from the game discs. I’d love for them to make it one continuous game but I don’t know if they would want to do that. All depends on how much it really takes to remove the disc-check and to make one giant game from it.

Probably not much – there should be a small bit of code that checks at the end of one disc what disc is inserted. It wouldn’t be difficult to add a disc emulator that just says ‘oh, I has the next CD’ whenever the game looks for it.

    It probably doesn’t take much.

I mean, the whole game was already fully on each of the three discs with the only difference being the FMVs.

I know. Like I said, it depends on how much work they put into the release. They could’ve thrown it up in a matter of minutes or taken the time to get all the assets into one nice and neat package. It’d be nice if they rerendered the FMV’s to a resolution higher than 320×240 but I know that’s asking for too much.

They probably still have higher resolution versions of the FMVs.
I remember that in the AC making-of, they were showing a couple of FMVs which had no signs of compression and the likes.
Dunno if they’d include those with the PSN release though.

One can dream… oh, one can dream.

Would be lovely after you beat the game if they tacked in a “Remake coming in 2010” teaser during the “space travel” =P

What are the extra scenes they added in the International release?

      What they actually mean is that the scenes which were added to the US and European releases ALSO are included in the International version. So there’s nothing in the international version that you haven’t already seen, unless you’ve only played the first japanese release. The scenes I know of which were added are;
      1) Cloud and Zack flashback, triggered in Shinra Mansion.
      2) Tifa’s flashback of finding Cloud at the train station (scene triggered right after WEAPON is unleashed)

Could be more, but I don’t know of it.

In addition to the ones Shademp mentioned:

      – the FMV of the WEAPON appearances in the crater.

There are dozens of other changes, but most of the changes are smaller gameplay related things (Tifa and Cid snowboarding, better ‘Sort’ for materia, ‘Quick’ materia change option, added battles with Diamond/Ruby/Emerald WEAPON, Chocobo & Moogle become wind elemental, etc.).

Japan that days are unlucky cause they dont have the changes from the FF7 international that was already released in US and in Europe. So i think it now closes the gap for the japanese. Well there seems nothing new when you will play the japanese FF7 international unless you havent already played FF7 international US version

and yes right, all the changes hitoshura said was already in the FF7 international us version, that was already released 19 years ago

The “International” version had already been released in Japan actually. It even came with a bonus cd that we never got.
Oh, and it is 12 years, not 19 😉
