Final Fantasy VII music gets a cappella treatment

by April 17, 2013 0 comments

These covers of Final Fantasy VII songs are unlike anything you’ve heard before.

YouTube member Smooth McGroove, real name Max Gleason, has been recording multi-layered a cappella (vocals only) versions of video game compositions since last December, when his renditions of Zelda’s Lullaby and the Ocarina of Time Title Theme first gained him widespread attention. Since then, he has turned his hand – and his voice – to a variety of different games, such as Super Mario 64, Castlevania and, most successfully, Street Fighter 2. Of most interest to us, however, are his covers of three tracks from Final Fantasy VII: Aerith’s Theme, J-E-N-O-V-A and the main battle theme, Let the Battles Begin, which you can listen to below.

If you enjoy these songs, be sure to check out McGroove’s a cappella versions of Final Fantasy VIII’s Balamb Garden and Final Fantasy X’s To Zanarkand as well.

We’re blown away by the quality and creativity of his work. Let us know what you think on our forum or in the comments below!
