EA PLAY Press Conference kicking off E3 at 11am PDT, June 9th.

Edit: Took a while to find the source for this since they don't actually mention E3 by name and only allude to 'the biggest video gaming entertainment event of the year.' I'm guessing it is connected due to the date and the fact that other sites are sourcing it as such, so

lol, what is this like the copyrighted "Super Bowl" thing where tv/radio ads have to refer to it as the "big game?"

Most curious. It'll be interesting to see when the rest of the conferences are this year then. EA and Ubi are normally closer to each other. I wonder if Sony's going for their usual last time slot.

Ubisoft can eat a bag of dicks imo, don't care about their sameish games in a different package, . There might still be a bit of hope for EA, just as long as they learned their lesson and stop fucking up their franchises by trying to squeeze that dank monies out of it.

All I want from EA is info on the next Dragon Age, but what we'll get is a chunk of fake voice acted Anthem footage followed by or preceding 40 minutes of boring sports games. And likely some more Battlefront bullshit.

~sets own expectations~

Anthem is going to bomb so hard, I wouldn't be surprised if it gets cancelled outright. Also given how Destiny 2 seems to perform mediocre at best. Same with Battlefront.

Sports games are a much more reliable, not as prone to public outcry franchise for EA though, I don't mind them keeping up with those. Don't care about their announcements, but, to each their own.

There's no way they're cancelling Anthem, EA have put all Bioware's eggs in that basket. I agree the chances of it doing as well as they hope are zero, but they're releasing it even if they themselves are 100% sure it's going to tank.

The Destiny hype now seems like a bit of a fad tbh, and they were always trying to eat a slice of that pie with Anthem. I think they'll full steam ahead and release the game, but even mediocre sales mean the end of Bioware at this point IMO.

You're probably not wrong, :/. I hope EA hasn't put all of bioware into that one bet though, that's just er, poor management to put it mildly.

They could've made ME a huge thing, but they dropped the ball by not giving it the attention it needs. And they can probably make some moar monies off of another DA game, but that too will need a fuckton of polish and fleshing out and shit.

The main ME studio was working on Anthem, and Andromeda was outsourced to a new studio in Texas that previously developed DLC for ME3. Half of the DA team was/ is working on Anthem along with their main studio. When Andromeda didn't do well they closed the Texas studio and moved remaining staff to work on Anthem. At one point last year EA openly said all of this, so basically the entire studio bar a few core Dragon Age members were working on Anthem.

They'll be entering crunch with that now so while we know they've entered full development with the next DA I find it unlikely the studio will last much longer unless Anthem is a major hit. If Anthem tanks they'll probably finish up the next Dragon Age then close up shop, if even that happens. They've already completely shelved Mass Effect.

Into the bargain they can't get away with old Bioware style tactics - meaning buggy messes. Granted Andromeda was slightly worse for this than Bioware's usual fare but Dragon Age has been notoriously buggy. I would take Inquisition again in a different setting in a heartbeat, but the larger gaming population will not. The cries of "but The Witcher 3" began only months after Inquisition's release, and the relative fanfare Inquisition got was mainly because it was early in the generation and everyone was starved for a decent western RPG (as much as I think it's amazing - it's probably still my favourite game of this generation).

Summary of factors:

- Bioware studios consolidated to work on Anthem, skeleton team left for DA
- Mass Effect IP mismanaged, Andromeda was buggy and poor in some major gameplay aspects even though it had 5 years of dev time (but only 2 in actual development, again due to mismanagement)
- Mass Effect IP shelved by EA
- Inquisition The Return would rate poorly among gamers and critics alike because other RPG's like The Witcher changed the landscape for what is and isn't acceptable from a progression standpoint (no MMO-style quests as padding)
- They're being forced to use Frostbite for everything because EA demand it, and they've had notorious trouble getting key RPG systems to work in it because it was invented for Battlefront
- EA is focusing - like other publishers - on "games as a service", which is not a model that fits with Bioware's single player IP's in general. They've already announced they shifted gears in development of the next DA to accommodate this
- Anthem is EA's "we want the Destiny market" ploy but the Destiny market is kind of dying

Bioware is in major trouble - not just because of EA, but also because of their own mismanagement.

Mass Effect was probably my favourite franchise of the last generation and it was hugely popular. It's insane how quickly it was killed. I don't want the same for Dragon Age, but it's hard to be optimistic. I hope my fears are wrong.

Nintendo video presentation will be June 12th at 9 am PT

They have a competition/tournament of Splatoon 2 going on before that on June 11th from 3:30 pm to 6 pm PT if anyone is interested. Also they will be only showing games that will be releasing this year as 'Games launching beyond 2018 will be featured at a later date.'

Waiting on you, Sony and I guess PC Gaming Show too.
