FFVII: Ever Crisis Announced

Well, if you go back to the original early drafts for the game before Tifa was split into two characters...

latest

Tifa and Sephiroth were originally intended to be siblings, hence her name likely being derived from Tifaret, as his was from Sefirot. So making them the stand-ins for Sabin and Edgar might make sense in that regard.

Cloud and Aerith getting Locke and Terra was kind of no-brainer.

Still, definitely could have been better choices. Looks like Angeal is getting a free Cyan costume, but Sephiroth being a samurai would really have made him the perfect stand-in for Cyan. Or Celes, as others mentions, having a gender bender costume go the other way would have been neat.

Glenn and Matt would have also worked great for Sabin and Edgar, especially given how long its been since they got new costumes. No Shadow Yuffie is also kind of a bummer.

I wonder who Vincent would best fit, I guess either Setzer or Gogo? I suppose Gogo would be the best choice for Vincent since Cid's best fit would be Setzer (since they are both airship captains). That would leave Barret I guess with an outfit from either Strago, Banon, or General Leo.
Red XIII I guess could get a collar or scarf modeled after Gau's clothes, or maybe add a pom and some moogle wings accessories to represent Mog.

It’s such a high disrespect to Tifa; she deserves to have a Celes outfit, Celes deserves to be in this crossover. It’s about time they stop disrespecting Tifa as the heroine of FFVII.

Not only that but the outfit is SO LAZY, it sticks out because it’s a nowadays outfit with clownish colours not even from Sabin’s outfit main game but from the card trading game?? Like if they wanted her to be in yellow and blue, Celes was right there, with less colour mix. So it doesn’t fit FFVi and it’s a huge disrespect, I’m actually mad.

Oh man, gonna have to get creative with the rest. Cait Sith can star as his own summon. Maybe Vincent can be himself with Umaro as a limit break.

Disagree. Pairing her up with VI's monk makes perfect sense....

Absolutely not. She's the heroine and she's never been aknowledged as such in FF crossovers. You will never have such a great opportunity ever again. Because that role is always going to go to Aerith. So many people look at this and think "oh so Tifa is important enough BUT NOT a heroine". And don't tell me "that's not true", because I have yet to see theorybros not giving her crucial scenes away to Zack or Aerith. Proof that THEY, who are spreading a lot of stuff about FFVII do not see her as a heroine.

If SE doesn't do the minimum job of SHOWING she is a heroine, then who will?

That and her outfit is, FFS, just a blue top with yellow cargo and green baskets. YOU CAN BUY THIS ONLINE. THIS IS NOT A MONK OUTFIT.

They absolutely just did it to match weapons. Terra's sword can easily be made to match Aerith's staff, Setzer fits older Sephiroth more and doesn't wield a weapon at all for Seph to get, Sabin doesn't require a weapon whereas Celes' sword would be completely missing on Tifa, etc.

Sabin is also known best for suplexing a train, it was probably a joke based around how Tifa can meteor strike Weapons in the original game. It's not that deep, probably just a little joke and something they thought matched. This is not at all a statement on who the main heroine of FF7 is, or whatever. Also, the actual quality of the outfit in the game has nothing to do with the writers either.

Tifa is absolutely a heroine of FF7. She is of supreme importance, and can stand on her own. She doesn't need an FF6 gacha outfit to prove her heroine-ism to anybody, that's silly. Not everything is a statement.

Of course she is of utter importance, but you are blinding yourself if you don't think that a lot of people, including theorybros, don't see Tifa as unimportant, and this kind of message from SE doesn't help. And don't tell me that's not true, they spend their time making theories giving Tifa's scenes to Aerith because to them Aerith is the only true heroine.

I hate to say this but these kind of things play on fandom's perception of Tifa. I've seen it over and over again over decades, it's all over the internet and it has spread deeply into fandom. Even here people were ready to give Tifa's Lifestream scene to Zack because they did not understand the importance of this scene nor why it happens the way it does. Think really well about how many people are saying anyone can be in the Lifestream scene, and you'll realise just how many people are indeed thinking "Tifa is not important".

Eerie i think you're letting the toxic fandoms opinions affect yourself too much here. Who gets what outfits in these collabs is irrelevant to the characters roles themselves. They're just playing dressup with other franchises characters and Tifa just happens to fit a type that the series heroines don't traditionally fall into, which is a monk.

If you wanna blame someone then blame Square for designing a female heroine as a monk instead of the usual white mage heroine character that unsurprisingly Aerith gets because she fits that mold better. They've clearly been putting them into the fitting character archetypes in both FF crossover events so far with Cloud getting the dagger/sword wielders, Aerith getting the white mage/caster roles, Tifa getting the monk and so on.

Sure i would've liked for Tifa to get a Celes outfit instead too, but i'm not surprised they chose the character that fit her archetype more with Sabin.

At the end of the day, why even try to find validation for something like a heroine status through some dumb gacha outfits in a gacha game? Not the hill i would die on that's for sure.

If they do an FFVIII crossover Aerith is going to be Rinoa and Tifa will be Zell and the world will explode
Which is crazy to me, cuz Zell fits Tifa perfectly lmao. He’s on a poster in Tifa’s room and uses Dolphin Blow. It’s 1-to-1.

But you’re right. There will still be a llloooooot of backlash. Tifa is indisputably the heroine of FF7 alongside Aerith, she just lines up with all these silly train-suplexing and dolphin-uppercutting goobers.

IMO they should have Aerith be Quistis and Lucia be Rinoa specifically to avoid this outcry of anger again + matching hair color. (and Yuffie as Selphie makes so much sense)

People's weird fixation on this is so annoying lol. Who cares. Barret's my favorite FF7 character besides Cloud and I'm not out here demanding he be considered the hero of the story, or that he'd be lesser for not being treated as such. Aerith and Tifa fans are so battered they don't know how to enjoy things anymore without having to paratextually justify it a million different way. Every costume, promotional banner, fuckin theaterythm image or whatever is another spear to wield. It's so stupid. Get over yourselves. SE's out here continuing to be a bucha of racists by ignoring Barret entirely and this is the bullshit you care about. Jesus.

lol, don't worry, I'm right there with you. It's exhausting feeling like I have to preface "Tifa and Aerith are the heroines" before explaining why I like Tifa cosplaying Sabin or Zell. I do wish Barret would've gotten more outfits, I hope when the FF8 event comes out that he gets to be someone dope like Raijin.

Sadly, I think the lack of Barret is because of the Japanese fanbase. IIRC he came in dead last when they had that big all-Final Fantasy vote a few years ago.

Edit: pardon, he shares last place with Fat Chocobo and someone I’ve never heard of. Behind Edward. Eat a dick, poll.

Yeah Barret is about as far away as you can get from what the general Japanese audience would consider an appealing character. He's a gruff, heavily built older man (read: over 30) with dark skin. He's pretty much only in the game out of obligation if I had to guess. I imagine Cid might get similarly poor treatment but maybe not.

They/Them
If it's worth anything I can see Tifa getting Refia (3D FF3), Faris (FFV), Penelo (ff12) as well as the more obvious monks including Prishe, Lyse, etc.

I mean though remake part 3 still isn't out yet and for all we know Tifa might still get more of a "magical girl" role somehow.

You really shouldn't be letting the worse elements of fandom dictate your anxieties and enjoyment of a franchise, especially for something as trivial as a mobile game cosmetic costume mashup. Tifa was given Sabin's outfit because they are both monk-class characters, it's fitting and fun.
No.? I'm not enjoying this because I really wanted to see Tifa as Celes and I will never see her as an FF heroine. The fact that these kind of things ALSO colour fandom's views about Tifa is the icing on the cake, so to speak. Why is it so bizarre that Tifa fans want to see her cosplaying as an FF heroine exactly? Her and Celes are also very similar in character, so why would it be a stretch to want her as that?
What the fuck are theorybros
Guys on YT spreading their theories as the gospel truth. Doesn't help that the FFVII devs praise them and make them feel important even when they are dead wrong. They will never admit being wrong BTW. Somehow they got a huge following too.

No. I wanted to see Tifa as an FF heroine, I knew it was literally the only collab where I'd get to see her as one. Now I won't ever see her as one.

They have the perfect monk outfit for her. They did not release it. I will NOT buy it. Who cares, she's getting tons of monk outfits anyway!
Sure i would've liked for Tifa to get a Celes outfit instead too, but i'm not surprised they chose the character that fit her archetype more with Sabin.
All the other characters don't fit their archetype, only Tifa has to stick somehow. Let me tell you, if a rule applies to only one character, it's not a rule. It's bullshit talk to appease her fans.

Lliterally no I love that Tifa is a monk, but even when they give her a "monk outfit" it's terrible and very low effort (again they are not releasing the really good one they made for her... if you wanted to give her that as a banner, you didn't have to push absolutely the monk class on her in a collab where you could have just push her onto the other heroine role, which she also happens to be close to).
If they do an FFVIII crossover Aerith is going to be Rinoa and Tifa will be Zell and the world will explode
Of course she will be Zell and Aerith is going to be Rinoa. Again I don't expect Tifa to get any heroine outfit.

You will be pleased to hear that Barret is included in the huge rant I'm sending to applibot because those fckers only gave him TWO outfits and I'm SO MAD about it too.

never heard of them and couldn't care less what they think - and I'd wager that's true for 90% of people who actually played FF7/remake. Basically none of whom play this frankly lousy gacha game.

and I will never see her as an FF heroine.

She already is one. What are you talking about.
And as I said elsewhere, I would be very surprised for Jill to go to anyone other than Tifa in a hypothetical XVI crossover. They are the exact same archetype.

To be clear, wanting a Celes-themed Tifa and being disappointed not to get one is a perfectly fair desire. It's this element of "disrespect" of Tifa that could only be remedied by pairing her up with another female character, and preoccupation with what some dudes on youtube might say is what I think you're garnering pushback on.

I'd say these sorts of comically overblown reactions will color people's perceptions more than any gacha costume ever will. People love Tifa, and the only ones who are gonna point and laugh about this are people who already don't like her to begin with. Like others are saying, I don't think you need to be so concerned about what other people think. Tifa's already like the most popular FF girl by far. The worst I can say about her is that her twitter community is a bunch of neurotic weirdos who get hung up on very strange things.

again they are not releasing the really good one they made for her...
Wait is that Zangan outfit they teased forever ago still not out? Wow that's ridiculous lmao.

Her non-traditional class for a female FF character seems to be her downfall here. You're right that the classes don't line up 1-to-1 in all cases here (Cloud -> Zidane for example), but in the event that you have a female character more known for their magical abilities than physical fighting skills, Aerith is a more logical first choice. And it just happens that a lot of leading ladies in the series are white-mage adjacent because sexism.

  • Garnet LOOKS like Tifa, but she uses white magic and summoning.
  • Terra isn't strictly a white mage but has her Esper abilities.
  • Yuna's a white mage with a staff.
  • Rinoa isn't a white mage either and looks even more like Tifa than Garnet, so I'd have said this would be a decent chance for Tifa had she not been so associated with Zell already.
  • Were they to do XIII, and if they're brave enough to to a FtM gender swap costume so Cloud could be Lightning, I assume Aerith would get Vanille and Tifa would get Snow.
  • XV is they used dragoon lady whose name I forget as a costume we could see how true they are to this system and see if Cid gets it lol.
  • Ody doesn't know enough about the other FF games to keep making comparisons lol.

I think Tifa's real best chance at getting a "heroine" costume would be Jill in a XVI crossover, as mentioned above.

As for why Tifa in particular keeps getting monks specifically, I assume it's down to the weapon. Exchanging a sword for a staff is easier than gloves. Granted they did invent a Vivi gun so

I imagine Aerith may have also gotten Terra's outfit/role due to both Aerith and Terra share the background element of being half-human and half a magically gifted race.

Honestly, I feel like giving Tifa the maiden/princess/major heroine outfits in this case would take away from her character. Not in a general sense, I think she could look good in the outfits and has ties to Celes as a character, yadda yadda. I'm talking in regards to the people who are/would be outraged about her cosplaying Sabin and Zell specifically.

Everyone knows Tifa is the main heroine of FF7 alongside Aerith, I've said that ad nauseum at this point. Everyone knows that Tifa has the Lifestream scene, nobody wants to take that scene or her heroine-ism away from her. (Not even the "theorybros", who I haven't ever seen desire Tifa's Lifestream scene be replaced in favour of Zack or Aerith. Only Twitter entertains that, and considering its one of the most important scenes of the entire series, it'll never be changed.)

Anyways. My point is. Tifa is well-established as a heroine, but she's so much more on top of that. Her cosplaying Sabin and Zell references them being the same class, yes, and it would also fit Tifa's weapon (gloves lol) the most, yes, but people are really ignoring stuff when they get mad at the Sabin costume:

Sabin suplexing a train is one of the most iconic things in the franchise, it is synonymous with the quirks of FF6, you can't go through a playthrough without someone mentioning it. I would consider it iconic in its hilarity. Tifa then goes and suplexes and tosses entire WEAPONS from orbit, in the exact same way, which is also a huge meme. If someone asked me to tie FF6 and 7 together, Sabin and Tifa's memes are one of the first things I would think of, next to other connections like the obvious Aeirth/Terra.

Similarly, Tifa and Zell using dolphin uppercuts is so unique to them that they put Zell on a poster in her room. I'd love for Tifa to get a Rinoa costume because of how similar they look, but the Zell connection is undeniable. I feel like it would do a disservice to the non-writing aspects of the character to ignore these connections. And, again, if EC does make Tifa Zell, I would argue that Aerith shouldn't be Rinoa but Quistis (who has a closer hair color, and a whip that could be turned into a staff fairly easily), and Lucia should be Rinoa instead (who also has the same hair color, but could be given an Angelo Cannon limit break to fire the dog outta her rifle or smth lmao)

I think that's the last thing I'll say on the matter.

So, if they do an FFIV collab, that's where there's a perfect place to give Tifa a heroine collab outfit. Aerith and Rydia are built from the same mold, essentially, as both are last of their kind daughters of a race of people that speak to the creatures that live deep within the planet itself/ the planet itself.

Cecil and Rosa meanwhile are perfect linkups to Cloud and Tifa thematically, and while Rosa is an archer and white mage instead of a martial artist, she also learned both of those skills so as to be more than a damsel and a prize.
Plus, Yang has a top knot and never wears a shirt and that's never going to fly.

The only question would be do you give Edge to Zack or Yuffie.

Or we could go extra ham and make Cloud Rosa and give Cecil to Tifa and Kain to Aerith.
