FFVII: Ever Crisis Announced

I guess she could get Rikku...
IMO Yuffie being Rikku has got to be a guarantee, not only because they’re thieves with similar personalities, but because Yuffie and Rikku were interchangeable in Kingdom Hearts. Literally just a face-swap, from Rikku in concept art to Yuffie in the final game.

I'm a huge Tifa fan, I always liked her more than Aerith, and I absolutely do not feel shafted by Rebirth. We got SO many amazing character moments with her, I'd say more so than with Aerith. I personally don't give a shit about cosmetics in a gatcha game. It means nothing. It's a money making scheme.

Please don't speak for all Tifa fans because you are clearly in some VERY fringe circles here.

Maybe I don't get it because I'm not on twitter.

That's exactly it. ALL of this discourse is on twitter, and maybe other random websites like tumblr. It's a horrible warzone that the average player won't even be aware of, unless their algorithm decides to drag them into the battlefield.

I'm a huge Tifa fan too, but the Tifa vs Aerith feud is never something I'll want to participate in. Especially not if it's going to make me mad and hyper-attentive enough that I start seeing a Sabin costume as a slight against my "side" in the war. I said that one of my previous comments were gonna be the last thing I say, but it doesn't end.

As I said, I thank Nojima for treating her properly like the heroine of FFVII, I think she is written brilliantly in Rebirth. But what I want is Tifa not getting shafted. Like why doesn't she have a dress made just for her? It may look stupid to you but a lot of her fans were looking to that, they want to see Tifa dressed up too in cool clothes, to show her feminine side. They'll never have her wear a gown but come on? The GS was the best place to have her wear one made for her that she wouldn't share with others. Aerith gets that, Yuffie gets a cute kimono, Tifa gets nothing? Why?

Why was it decided that it'd be her chapter that would get binned instead of chapter 17 which is a fcking hassle to go through? It took AGES to get to control Tifa and it wasn't really interesting either lol since it's a minigame (and next is also a minigame...).

Also you may not care about fashion, but Tifa does! Tifa is a feminine character, she likes dresses, she sews, she scolds Barret when she sees Marlene in rags, but the games never show that, while her fans want to see that side of hers. And EC even less than others; when they made that comment that characters only wear what they would wear normally, I screeched for both Tifa and Cloud. Obviously that was a bold faced lie. She would never wear the bunny outfit, the Amarant outfit or the passion mermaid outfit (two out of three were just fanservice), and certainly not Sabin's outfit (not in those colours! She would totally wear it if the colour scheme wasn't clownish). Even the Bahamut outfit I simply don't think is Tifa's style. And there's a big part of her fandom that does want to see her in cuter outfits, and also want to see her aknowledged as the other half of "dual heroine", not some side chick who's a bit important.

Also again, this is not a Tifa vs Aerith, everyone thinks Aerith deserved to be Terra and that she looks great, but mostly people are skipping because of Tifa's treatment. It's not a shipping thing either, it's about Tifa, and only Tifa.

No I don't think so lol, half of her outfits absolutely stink.
Each to their own i guess. I personally like most of them and don't mind her getting "men" clothes here and there.
Their reluctance to release the Zangan outfit is baffling.
To be fair it took us this long to get Reds bomber outfit too which was also showcased in the early trailers so i do expect it eventually, but at this point most likely as filler or them waiting for a good timing.
Tifa is apparently datamined to get an Ultimate weapon in the next two months or so 💜
Yuffie after this current Aerith one and then Tifa supposedly yeah.

Is anyone else not rolling on any of the crossover gear? I feel like it's not worth it.

My Imperil game wasn't that much up to snuff so Terra's Rod sorts that out. Since I don't have the Monster Hunter or Bahamut stuff at max OB this is really good for me.

Cloud's boost element damage looks like it would pair well with Aerith's triple Imperil but depends where I am resource wise nearer the end of the event.

My Seph would appreciate the water DPS but I already have Cloud and Zack if I really need it so picking that up would just be a bonus.

Don't know what Tifa's does yet.

Plus supposedly Princess Guard is really good.

I wonder, at the current pace will the Ever Crisis retelling of CC or the OG finish first? And will a Before Crisis retelling replace which ever one finishes first?

Watching the new Crisis Core chapter right now, I really like the new scene between Zack and Luxiere. It not only reinforces Zack’s character, but the consistency with Luxiere (a very minor character in the original game) is appreciated:

In this new scene, Luxiere butters Zack up, all for his own selfish goal of becoming 1st. Which reflects the original game where he tries to coax Zack into letting him turn him in, betraying him for his own gain.

New chapter of The First SOLDIER Episode II came out the other day. Not going to go quite as in depth in the summary as I usually do.

  • The team loads up the fallen SOLDIERs on a chopper to deliver them to R&D (certainly not suspicious) but Alissa refuses to leave without finishing her mission. Sephiroth picks out a new sword to replace the one that Masamune broke, and chats with Alissa about it; he says they all cut the same, but that he "had a feeling" about the one he chose. Angeal notices that Sephiroth is uncharacteristically agreeable towards Alissa, and Sephiroth says that he decided to try this comrades thing, but remains cold towards him.
  • Bachman tells Sephiroth that there are two types of SOLDIERs: those who strive to become one-man killing machines like him, and those who draw strength from their allies like Angeal. He pegs Alissa as the latter type, though with her injuries she feels like she can't even provide support and is just deadweight. As they set out and travel, a strange purple wisp appears occasionally, followed by monster attacks. Angeal seems to sense it.

  • Alissa finds some large melted rock formations, evidence of powerful fire magic. She explains that Igara was settled and named by the Ancients about 2000 years ago, and within the span of a century they had transformed it from a barren wasteland into fertile grasslands. Then a powerful fiend invaded the region and preyed on the people and their animals. It was never named, as the people of Igara didn't want it remembered. A group of warriors chased it south and incinerated it with fire magic, but the magic was so powerful that it ignited an inferno that consumed the land and killed all but one member of the group: Da-chao. The fire burned for three years, destroying Igara to such an extent that rebuilding was deemed impossible. The survivors moved north, founding Wutai.

  • The new exploration map is a foggy swamp. Sephiroth can swing his sword to clear away patches of fog temporarily, allowing you to find hidden treasures. Alissa asks the party to recover keepsakes that her team left behind to mark their trail, so she can have something to remember them by.
  • After fighting some monsters, Alissa asks Angeal why he doesn't use the big sword on his back, and he explains that it's more of a good-luck charm. "Must give a lot of luck," she replies. She tells Sephiroth he should get a more impressive sword, too--something to show everyone how exceptional he is, being a hero and all. Bachman agrees, saying it would look great on film. Sephiroth dismisses the notion as ridiculous, but flashes back to his encounter with Swordsmith Masamune, and then says he thinks she might be right.
  • After fighting some more monsters, Alissa says she wishes she could fight alongside them. She says that she's an Active Model SOLDIER, and Bachman mentions that they were experimented on with cells "grown from something they scraped off a meteorite." Alissa says that's just a ridiculous rumor.
  • After finding the last of the keepsakes and fighting a strong monster, they near Robio.

  • Before they proceed with the investigation of Robio, Alissa gives them another history lesson: About 500 years ago, long after the five warriors defeated the beast, a group of Ancients settled in the region and used their knowledge to revive the land. By that point their numbers had already greatly diminished. The settler's village became Robio, which has also been destroyed; Alissa is trying to determine what happened to it and will begin by mapping the region.
  • There are large stone barriers around the borders of Igara that were erected by the Wutaians to keep something from getting out. As they observe them, several purple wisps appear and in a flash the team is surrounded by ghostly images of Ancient villagers. Sephiroth wonders if they are illusions showing them visions of the past and a monster attacks.
  • As they proceed they find burn marks covering much of the village. More wisps appear and they are greeted with a vision of the village in flames, the people cowering in fear, seemingly being slaughtered by Swordsmith Masamune. Sephiroth wonders if they sealed the area away to try and conceal an inconvenient moment of their history. Bachman was able to capture the illusions on his camera.
  • As they proceed they find a damaged statue, unable to determine what it once depicted. Sephiroth says that the destruction here was caused by something immensely powerful, and Angeal wonders if that's what they were trying to seal away. More illusions depict Masamune slaughtering villagers; they refer to him as "the fiend."
  • They find a knife belonging to one of the villagers and realize the illusions must be showing things that actually happened. They come to the conclusion that Wutai likely sealed the people away with the fiend, deeming all who lived in the area as "inhuman." When Angeal bristles at the idea, Sephiroth says that's how people are; anyone they can't understand is deemed inhuman and must be eliminated, including SOLDIERs. As they leave, Angeal vows that he'll make Sephiroth understand that all people aren't like that.

  • They reach a fountain where the villagers would often gather and perform rituals. Alissa says this is where everything started. The villagers relied on a single smith to craft all their tools and weapons. One day, as if possessed, he poured all of his energy into crafting a remarkable blade--more than a mere weapon, a work of art. Its beauty drove the people to begin fighting amongst each other to try and claim it as their own, some even sneaking into the smith's house to try and steal it. In order to defend his masterwork, he turned the blade on his fellow man. Unable to trust the people he once served, he stalked the village by night, slaying them one by one. Yet they were unable to band together to stop him, as they each greedily sought to claim the sword as their own. They started killing one another and before long nobody was left.
  • When asked how she was able to figure this out in just a few days, she asks if they were able to see the monster: The accursed smith who destroyed his home--Masamune.
  • Masamune appears, now shirtless, with purple wisps circling him. His left hand, clad in a red glow that spreads up his arm, grips his masterwork sword. The broken blade from Sephiroth's sword still pieces his chest and protrudes from his back. Alissa explains that he was as seduced by the blade as everyone else; he laughs and enters a battle stance.
  • Boss fight: Demon Masamune
  • Upon defeating him he again leaps away and retreats. Angeal asks if he's been here all along -- how many hundreds of years has it been?
  • Alissa explains that she didn't gather any intel, it all appeared to her suddenly, as if they were her own terrible memories. Angeal remarks that it's just like the illusions. She says that this land is home to a mysterious power and their mission won't be complete until they find out what it is.
  • Sephiroth says that the sword calls to him, yearns to be his. A bell tolls suddenly, and they rush to find the source of the sound.

  • They arrive at a large temple carved into a cliffside cavern. Alissa says it seems like the bells are calling them. Bachman wonders if it's Masamune, and Sephiroth wonders if it's who or what is keeping him alive. Sephiroth says he senses a powerful will, but can't tell who it belongs to, "But I can say one thing for sure. That sword is meant to be in my hands." Angeal says he's acting weird and they should leave. Sephiroth replies, "I'm going in. I need to get that blade back." Angeal asks what he means, "Back?"
  • Sephiroth turns to leave, telling Angeal that he can't order him. But Angeal says they have an injured SOLDIER and a civilian with them and should make camp, then explore the cave in the morning. Sephiroth agrees, and Alissa wonders with anticipation about the source of the bells.
  • To be continued...

  • Just as last chapter, there's a brief series of interludes.
  • Bachman recaps the story so far, noting that Sephiroth feels a strong kinship with the people who lived in Robio and has begun to see himself as the hero he has been portrayed as, and is starting to try and live up to that image.
  • Sephiroth hallucinates spending time with his mother Jenova (Lucrecia) again. This time they sit in a field of flowers, enjoying the gentle wind. Lucrecia says that they would never find flowers like this in Midgar, and this is her favorite part of traveling. Sephiroth says he can barely believe that he's on a trip with her, but she assures him that they go on trips together all the time. She tells him he should take a nap and rest, but he wants to spend more time with her. She tells him that she'll always be with him, and that this is a reward for him becoming the hero the world needs. She tells him she's proud of him, and he says it makes him feel invincible. He says that he'll keep fighting for her, and thanks her as she gives him a hug. As the dream fades to black, he remarks "I wish this moment could last forever..."
  • Angeal recalls his sendoff party as he leaves Banora to pursue his dream of becoming a SOLDIER. The villagers cheer him on, and say they'll help take care of his mom and dad while he's gone. His parents come out to bid him farewell. Everyone is proud of him. His mother gives him a present--a SOLDIER uniform she made herself. His father gives him the Buster Sword. "Embrace your dreams, son. And hold onto your hope." Angeal holds the sword in front of his face, "I swear on this sword I will..." A photographer takes a photo of Angeal holding the sword with his parents behind him. As the memory fades, Angeal says he kept his promise and his dreams have come true, so he'll keep doing his best to make everyone proud of him.
