Back when the demo came out, I remember a streamer describing the Cloud and Aerith scene at the tower in Kalm as a “win” for Clerith despite their conversation being about Tifa because Aerith is able to relate to Cloud’s loneliness when she talks about how she wishes she had a childhood friend...
Forget alluding, I’ll just outright say it. If people allow shipteasing in a trailer to color their judgement of what’s actually happening in the story all because “well, at least we got fed a little bit”, then they’re pretty much setting themselves up for disappointment if the actual game...
Naturally, people are going to be on the defensive to preserve some false sense of “validity”.
Um, actually, they held hands for .5 seconds longer, therefore #canon.
…and?
It’s all meant to serve a story. It’s not about “proving” a ship’s existence, it’s not about “keeping shippers fed”, it’s...
Honestly, I don’t even think the devs themselves cared this much about the romance back then. Hence Nomura’s statement about not knowing if Cloud & Tifa had been in a relationship from the end of FF7 leading up to AC. Like, the romance was always there but in the OG it felt a lot less fleshed...
Ultimately, I don’t actually care who Cloud “ends up” with. He could’ve ended up with Aerith in the OG and I’d be fine with it. My thing is that whatever the devs do, I want them to commit to it. Don’t try to beat around the bush to appease everybody, especially at the expense of character...
I’m leaning more towards it being in a general sense because if we’re talking specifically about equality in terms of romance? Come on, people. Let’s be honest with ourselves here, especially if the leaks are any indication of what’s happening.
The ribbon thing is a bit weird continuity wise, since she apparently got it in CC but in Remake we see her wearing it as a little girl.
In my headcanon Aerith lost her ribbon and Zack bought her a new one or something, I dunno.
My understanding is that she actually likes Tifa but can’t stand Cloud and Tifa shippers, though she doesn’t seem to have the same energy for her fellow Cloud and Aerith shippers despite them being no better
I’m reminded of a clip from this streamer I posted a few months ago:
People will inevitably tell themselves whatever they need to, whether it’s “but they went on however many dates”, “but they held hands”, “but such and such was optional”, “but the theme song”, “but the trailer” etc.
For...
I caught up with this thread before I caught up with the spoiler thread so I didn’t know what @Makoeyes987 was referring to, but my immediate reaction was “well, if Mako’s this sure about something, there’s probably some truth to it.”
Then I caught up to the spoiler thread and…ouch. Just…ouch...
Shipping. Particularly, details about the Gold Saucer dates. Lots of new users seemed to have migrated from Twitter, Reddit, & 4chan to find out about the dates and the ending. Nothing concrete about the latter just yet.
Agreed. Of course, there’s no way to police how other people interpret art, nor would I want there to be. I think what mainly rubs me the wrong way is when people try to take their own interpretations and pass them off as the creators’ intent so as to make their own view the “correct” one.
