I really feel like having the failures of the Big Materia stuff AFTER the Lifestream is actually a good thing. It shows that, with real Cloud at their side, they are ready to face anything, even future failures. That even if the world is ending, they have each other.

As I sort of hinted at in my lengthy post above, within full context, I feel like the ending is actually truly about Cloud and him losing it. I think we'll get closure in Part 3 about Aerith's death. I think we'll see the burial scene then. Perhaps when we revisit (and hopefully get to explore)...
