    Common Misconceptions

    1. Sephiroth is not a general, and SOLDIER doesn't have the typical military ranks (so also no commanders or lieutenants). If I cared enough, I would pull out every single attestation of a.) characters addressing Sephiroth and b.) characters addressing other SOLDIER members. (I cannot speak for...

@ Ravynne: Huh, I thought I was allowed to share my opinions on a public forum. As I said twice already, I was speaking generally and using Vincent as an example. You seem determined to take what I'm saying as a personal attack. But okay, you've come up with a logical, educated...

Lic, that sounds like an interesting, informative, and potentially dangerous series to undertake. I hope you get it underway, and I look forward to the wonderful discussions (arguments?) it will spark. :P (I would volunteer for Genesis -- i.e. if he ever comes within your sights -- but I'm...

As I said, it was meant generally. In my first paragraph (which was lost in Lic's edit), I'd said that DoC unfortunately provides us with far more evidence of incompetence than competence, and that if someone wants to write Vincent as an incompetent Turk, they will find ample support in DoC...

I was using Vincent as an example, but making more of a general statement about how certain fanon and headcanon tends to stick even when there's a.) no evidence to support said fanon/headcanon, or b.) canon evidence contradicting the fanon/headcanon. As certain fanon/headcanon becomes more...

What emulator are you using? Just in case it sounds like I gave up, I did sit my ass down today and pull all the script I could find from 01457 - 02011. It's definitely not all the script in the game, but I'm not sure I wanna go through all the other files to find the rest. I didn't see...

Theory: Genesis is actually a Deconstruction of the Marty Stu, Villain Sue AND Self-Insert tropes

It's okay, the author is dead. (To be entirely fair though: Squeenix, FF7, and deconstruction are words that do go together.)

I agree with your analysis of the situation (I think? I don't know the Turks that well), but keep in mind that the reality of the situation might not match up with how characters perceive it. There's always going to be luck involved, but I think there's a tendency for certain character types to...

I think you edited over my post, Lic. Probably for the best; you cut out all the extraneous bits. :P Characterization drift is a funny thing. You can often tell which characters are the author's favorites by the degree of deviation. The ones closest to canon are the ones the author doesn't care...

Beautifully put. I totally agree. I think there's a kind of "characterization creep" in which one's version of the canon characters can imperceptibly deviate further and further from the canon.... I know for me this has happened with Tseng, and I think I need to get back to the cold-hearted...

    Most pointless Final Fantasy character

I actually never really used Lulu after the blobs disappeared. Rikku was probably the most useless combat character for me.

I don't actually think Sephiroth's scheming screams "brilliant tactician," nor do I think he makes any brilliant deductions. In fact, Sephiroth's main claim to fame is possibly the most monumental fuck-up in the history of FF7, in which he makes a logical leap the width of the Grand Canyon right...

My bad, terminology confusion. When I say DoC!Vincent, I mean the Turk who is assigned to guard Lucrecia, though I probably should've just called him Turk!Vincent. I tend to just call the competent Vincent FF7!Vincent. I don't know if the Turks actually have a reputation for competency. It's...

I have trouble thinking of Turk!Vincent as an experienced Turk, tbh, which is saying something considering Turks in general do not seem very competent. (They more or less "fail upwards" from BC/CC through FF7 before being demoted to comic relief in ACC. Then they fall off the face of the planet...

    Most pointless Final Fantasy character

Relm is tied up with Shadow and Strago though, so I'd hesitate to say she's pointless. Still, I do feel like FF6 has the largest number of pointless player characters. I'm not saying they aren't useful as battlers, but Umaro? Gogo? Gau? Hell, even Mog isn't that important to the plot; his merry...

Or his disembodied dick is swimming around the Lifestream waiting to corrupt innocent souls.

Seconding "pad." Will force you to focus on the character, not the scenery, so the writing will feel more active. Also the way you wrote the sentence makes me think that the carpet is making sounds, not the footsteps on the carpet.

If Sephiroth had a girlfriend, how do you think she'd be?

'cause the hot mako burned the clothes off his body. :monster: He gets to reimagine his lower-body though now that it's gone, so he goes with pants. I always thought he loses the lower half of his body, 'cause Cloud stabbed him in the waist, and the bottom half fell off in the Lifestream?

Cloud perceives that Aerith and Zack have a conversation about him. Cloud also perceives that a giant incorporeal wolf is following him around. :monster: Not to mention, Case of Lifestream also says that the only two beings who retain their individuality are Aerith and Sephiroth. If Sephiroth...
