So I left some feedback on iTunes for ya Mike. Encouraging my wife and friends to do the same.

I should have said something about this at the time (I very nearly did), but now that I've listened back to the episode, I really don't think we should have "fed the troll" by giving CreativeZiggy so much time.

As I've said before, I like my podcasts to be on the short side, but this isn't just about that. I understand the desire to "nip things in the bud", but the best way to deal with inappropriate comments is usually to ignore them. Especially after you said you weren't going to read out any feedback, Vader. I also felt a little uncomfortable at the criticism of Youtube commenters in general, since they are part of our audience and we're trying to encourage them to engage with us.

Wall-E is an adorable movie. :monster:
My favorite Pixar movie probably. Would love to see some of that in KH3.

Respectfully, I disagree. I still openly encouraged people to reach out to us and share their dissenting opinions. All I did was ask that they not call people names and be respectful about sharing their dissenting opinions. Lex even stated on the show that he agreed. Creative Ziggy on Youtube commented on this episode and even stated that he had let himself get too angry about it. He stated he would be swinging by the forums as well.

I was not criticizing Youtube viewers specifically. I asked only that if people want to share their thoughts and opinions that they be respectful. I typically would agree that we just shouldn't read nasty emails and comments on the air. Normally I would ignore them and just move on. Going forward, I will be doing so. However, Creative Ziggy's analysis of the "Dawn" trailer was outstanding and I felt it deserved to be shared despite the fact that he was a tad rude in his opening remarks.

I don't feel he was trolling us. If I felt he was trolling us, I would not have allowed his comment to be read on the air. I'm not going to give true trolls the time of day on the show. Nor will I respond to their remarks. He just is passionate. I recognize passion when I see it because I used to be the same way before I grew up and matured a bit. I gave him the benefit of the doubt. I just wanted to make it clear that people should be respectful when sharing their thoughts and opinions. I see absolutely nothing wrong with that at all.

Further, I would not have had JasonTandro go ahead and read Creative Ziggy's comment had Lex not asked about it. I would have held it back for the next episode. However, since Lex asked about it I felt it okay to go ahead and proceed.

As for the length of the episode, I'm afraid we're going to have to continue to agree to disagree good sir. I'm not going to cut a good conversation short for the sake of making a show 30 minutes long. I think 30 minutes is far too short for a podcast. Personally, I'd like to stay in the hour to hour and a half range which is where we came in on this episode. Sometimes we do run long but usually that's because there's good conversation being had by all. I see nothing wrong with that at all. :monster:

IMHO, you did nothing wrong. I don't feel like we were wrong for asking that folks remain respectful. Plus, Creative Ziggy's analysis of the "Dawn" trailer was very well done!

^ I agree. Trust me fueling trolls is not the same as a gentle reminder and if people do start trolling us we can always ignore it. We're all denizens of these interwebs, we know the warning signs.

You didn't, but someone did. I think it was Lex, who said something like "it's not even that bad for a Youtube comment".

I know, I know, you've said all of that before, which is why I said "this isn't just about that". :P

I mean honestly who would actually expect a worthwhile and insightful comment to come out of YT's comment section lol .

^Yeah that. I feel like I did make the comment about YouTubers in general, but if I didn't and it was Carlie, then I agree with her anyway. Commenters on YouTube are in general, absolute fucking nutbags. YouTube is the utter cesspit of comment sections when compared to the internet, and that's saying something. It is legit really really bad. I'm not going to avoid stating that fact on the podcast, first and foremost because it's an objective truth and not just my opinion, and secondly because it won't deter reasonable people from leaving comments.

Remember Flint that YouTube isn't like... a community of people. Every single person uses YouTube. It's not like it's insulting to the people who use YouTube to say that, because we are all those people (were you offended? XD). I mean it's just a generally accepted fact that 99% of YouTube comments are from crazies, everybody knows that. When people point that out it doesn't stop the reasonable people from posting.

I have never left a comment on Youtube, so no, I wasn't offended. :P I guess you're right about it not really being a community though.

I find the overall comment quality varies from one video to the next. I've actually had some decent exchanges on youtube a couple times. I'd say the absolute scum of youtube would probably be the contents of livestream chats, which thankfully don't stick around. It's just a load of spam, redundant comments, too many emojis, "notice me senpai" and a few people trying to either get a decent comment in or trying to get others to behave better.
