I'm going to write one! In the style of trophy guides and road maps published over at playstationtrophies.org (where I'm also a member), this will be a guide to the FFVII platinum trophy - assuming there is one.
When it's finished I thought I could also post it there to plug TLS, I've always wanted to write a trophy guide. There is always the chance that the trophies won't be the same as the Steam achievements, and there's also the chance that there won't be a platinum at all, but hopefully they're the same and I can just get cracking on this. It'll also be a good thing to have as part of the site, though if we're doing that we might want to consider keeping it site-exclusive but we'll see how it goes first. There's always the chance that someone over there will beat me to the punch aswell, but if it's written before the trophies are even confirmed I'm sure we're in with a shot at being first.
Anyone is welcome to contribute and I see this as an opportunity for us to collaborate - everyone's name will be mentioned alongside The Lifestream banner but I might have to wait for trophies to be confirmed before I post it there.
The aim is to be concise while explaining each step and guide to each trophy as simply as possible.
So you'll see about a thousand edits to this post before it's complete.
The following assumptions are being made at this stage:
1. All trophies are the same as the Steam Achievements
2. There is no character trainer
I'm really excited about doing this, it should be fun. If it proves to be useless, what the hell. Maybe some people can use it to get the steam achievements without cheating . Everything right now is a placeholder to be filled in later.

Introduction
FFVII is the 1997 genre-defining Playstation RPG that everyone knows and loves. This version was announced in December 2014 causing
Roadmap
Save often and try to avoid overwriting. There are surprisingly few missable trophies, but those that are missable are incredibly so, in particular Aerith's Great Gospel and Consummate Cross-Dresser. Move beyond a certain point in the story without saving beforehand and you'll have to start the game again to obtain these trophies.
In general, don't throw any materia away unless you're sure it's not required for a trophy.
The point of no return for all trophies is at the end of the Northern Crater. As long as you have a save before that to go back to, all other trophies are obtainable, most at any point in the game.
You must obtain Consummate Cross-Dresser in Wall Market by successfully collecting the items listed under the trophy description or you cannot do so again without loading a previous save or starting the game over. It is therefore recommended to create a save in Wall Market before you begin collecting the items so that if you mess up at any point, you can return to that save and try again.
You must fulfill the conditions for See the Light prior to leaving for Temple of the Ancients (when Aerith becomes a locked-in party member). This is no small task; read the trophy description for instructions.
You must pick up the Bahamut materia immediately after defeating the Red Dragon in Temple of the Ancients for Waiting in the Wings. This area cannot be returned to once left.
Trophy Guide
Obtain all trophies
(Platinum)
Emerge victorious from your first battle
This trophy cannot be missed. This trophy will unlock when you defeat the first two enemies at the beginning of the game.
Use a limit break
The earliest you can obtain this trophy is in the very first fight at the beginning of the game, but you will obtain a limit break through natural play. Simply use it when it first becomes available.
Get Don Corneo to choose Cloud over the two females (Missable)
This trophy is obtainable in the Wall Market section of the game while trying to enter Don Corneo's mansion. To have Cloud chosen, you must do the following:
- When asked what kind of dress you would like, choose "Something soft" and "Something that shimmers" to get the Silk Dress.
- Eat at the restaurant and ask for any meal (which one you choose is irrelevant), then respond "...it was all right" to get the pharmacy coupon. Enter the pharmacy and exchange the coupon for a Digestive (3rd option). Return to the bar and try to enter the toilet, then offer the suffering patron the Digestive, at which point she'll give you the "Sexy Cologne".
- Visit the man in the materia shop (north of the save point) and agree to help him. Visit the inn and pay for a room. Cloud will go to the vending machine in the middle of the night. Choose the most expensive option (200 Gil) and return it to the man in the materia store, who will give you the Diamond Tiara.
- Win the squats minigame at the gym to obtain the "Blonde Wig"
This combination does not require you to enter the Honey Bee Inn at all. To recap, that's the Silk Dress, Blonde Wig, Sexy Cologne and Diamond Tiara. In order for Cloud to be chosen the Silk Dress, Blonde Wig and Sexy Cologne absolutely must be obtained, however you can still be chosen with the Ruby Tiara ONLY IF you also obtain the Bikini Briefs from "The Group Room" in the Honey Bee Inn. It's easier to simply pay the 100 extra Gil for the materia guy's item. Having the girls in the Inn apply make up has no effect on Don Corneo's decision.
Use a summon materia in battle
The earliest this can be obtained is upon arriving at the Chocobo Farm fairly early in the game. Speak to the chocobos in the pen there and respond "Wark!" to witness a super cute dance, after which they'll drop you a Choco-Mog materia. Equip this to a character and use it in the first battle thereafter, and the trophy is yours.
Raise a materia to Lv. 5
This is most easily done with an "All" materia, as they have the least amount of AP required to grow to level 5 out of all materia that have 5 levels, and if you're going for the platinum you'll be power levelling countless "All" materia for the Gil trophy anyway. If you want it as early as possible, just be sure to keep at least one (the same one) All materia equipped on an active character in a growth slot all the time, and it should reach level 5 some time at the beginning of Disc 2 through normal play, depending on how many battles you fight.
Go on a date with Barret in the Gold Saucer
FFVII's date mechanics are well documented, and that page provides good examples of choices to make to boost Barret's affection throughout the game.
However, there is an easier way than keeping track of your interactions with each character. Play through the game making choices as you like, and when you get to Cosmo Canyon do the following:
Speak to Barret in the room behind the weapon shop. He will tell a story about AVALANCHE and give you two opportunities to choose dialogue. Choosing "Go on" will boost Barret's affection by 3 points. In the next choice, choose, "Yeah, whatever", then leave and re-enter the room. This can be repeated forever to obtain an infinite number of points for Barret.
Aerith begins the game with 50 affection points which fluctuate based on dialogue choices. The highest number of points she can obtain with dialogue is 38, so her highest possible affection rating is 88. To be absolutely sure that Barret has the highest rating, repeat the "Go on" dialogue in Cosmo Canyon a grand total of 30 times to give him an affection rating of 90.
To be safe: do it a few more times because there are a few interactions that can decrease Barret's affection rating and I'm not sure if this can begin at a negative value.
Alternatively if you don't like cheating, Terence Ferguson's guide on GameFAQ's has all the choices you should make.
Win the chocobo racing minigame
This trophy is story related and cannot be missed. It will unlock following the events in Corel Prison and requires you to win the chocobo racing mini game. If you enjoy an easy win, hold in all the shoulder buttons to recharge your chocobo's stamina while you spam
Score 10,050 points or more in G-Bike at the Gold Saucer
This isn't too difficult to do. This trophy can be obtained upon your first visit to the Gold Saucer. Simply hit the bikes before they get near the truck (hits to the truck dock points) and try to take them all out as quickly as possible. Orange bikers are dumb and just go straight for the truck, whereas red bikes like to run in front of it and lure you away so more can get in - they also dodge your attacks. Be sure to approach the red bikes sides before hitting the attack button.
Have Yuffie join your party
The earliest Yuffie can be obtained is just after the Mythril Mines. She's an optional character that can only be recruited through an encounter, and she can only be encountered on the World Map in a forest. The rate at which you'll find her increases depending on the forest, but she shouldn't take too long to find in the first forest you come to.
Do not enter the menu or touch the save point at any time, or she will run away. The following dialogue choices are the correct ones, and an incorrect choice will force her to flee, meaning you have to encounter her again:
"Not interested."
".. petrified."
"Wait a second!"
".... That is right"
"Let's hurry on"
Ding!
Have Vincent join your party
You can obtain Vincent when you first visit Nibelheim. In the Shinra Mansion there is a safe in the northwest side of the upper floor. The combination for this safe is Right 36, Left 10, Right 59, Right 97. The numbers are written on walls and floors around the mansion so I've just saved you a trek . Enter the numbers as directed - if you go past the number it won't work (i.e. you can't accidentally pass by 36 and come back to it), so be quick but careful when entering the numbers.
When you're successful, you'll have to fight a boss (Lost Number). Upon defeating the boss, pick up the key on the ground (might as well grab the Odin materia while you're at it). Vincent is located in a coffin in the basement of the mansion, and this key unlocks the door to the room. Exhaust all dialogue with Vincent and when you go to leave the basement he'll join you.
Obtain the Leviathan Materia
This requires beating the Wutai pagoda, and is dropped by Godo. The earliest this can be obtained is upon receiving the Tiny Bronco and requires both the completion of the Wutai side quest and soloing 5 fights with Yuffie.
Obtain the Bahamut Materia (Missable)
This summon materia drops on screen after fighting the red dragon in the Temple of the Ancients. If you don't pick it up, you can never return here again to retrieve it and there is no other way to get the materia. You can still get access to the spell with the Master Summon materia if you defeat Ruby Weapon, but this trophy (more than likely) requires you to pick this up.
Obtain 99,999,999 gil
The highest value item that can be sold in this game is a single mastered All materia for 1.4 million gil, and it levels up rather quickly. The most expedient way to do this is to give three characters 8 slot weapons (with growth, so not the Ultimates) and armour (such as the Wizard Bracelets which can be bought from Mideel), fill them with 16 all materia each and grind the Magic Pots and Movers in the "Left - Up" path of the Northern Crater. You can make this process quicker by equipping All materia throughout the game and selling one whenever it becomes mastered. You need a grand total of 71 mastered All materia to reach this number.
The Apocalypse sword for Cloud (found at the end of the Ancient Forest optional area) has 3 triple growth slots (equivalent to 9 normal growth slots) and Cid's Javelin has 5 double growth slots (equivalent to 10 normal growth slots), so using both of these characters with these weapons will give a tiny boost to the speed of this process.
That is by far the fastest method. You could also attempt the Extended W-Item trick to duplicate a high value item or weapon, but the highest value item you can sell in FFVII that can be duped with W-Item is around 10,000 Gil (990,000 per trick), whereas you can earn 67,200,000 Gil with one round of mastering All materia in the north cave. Spamming Magic Pots will also help you with the next trophy:
Reach Lv. 99 with one character
Beyond the Gil grind, the fastest way to do this is to solo with a character, equip them with EXP Plus materia (can only be obtained from the Gold Saucer) and spam fight the aforementioned Magic Pots. What fun <3. In all seriousness, it shouldn't take too long using this method as they are the most reliable source of EXP in the game.
Obtain the Bahamut-ZERO Materia (Almost Missable)
The easiest way to do this is to acquire all four Huge Materia (one for successfully stopping the train in Corel, one for successfully disarming the device on the rocket, one from Fort Condor and the last from the Sunken Gelnika which is entirely optional) and the Bahamut and Neo Bahamut summon materia. You only need one Bahamut materia to be able to obtain Bahamut ZERO by interacting with the Blue Huge Materia in Bugenhagen's machine.
Bahamut materia is obtained in the Temple of the Ancients following the battle with the Red Dragon, and the Neo Bahamut materia is found on the first visit to the North Crater following the events at Gaea's Cliffs.
You can still obtain this trophy and miss the Huge materia, as Bahamut ZERO can be dug up in Bone Village during disc 3 (with a ~3.75% success rate), however this method is not recommended as it is tedious. It is possible that the trophy may only pop through interacting with the huge materia, so it's better to go that route for a few reasons.
Obtain Knights of the Round Materia
The earliest this trophy can be acquired is when Tifa is your party leader, prior to first visiting Mideel. The easiest and fastest way to acquire this trophy is to manipulate RNG using this guide to get a gold chocobo without racing (meaning no need to wait for the Gold Saucer to reopen), then simply travel to the island in the north east of the world map and grab the most overpowered summon in the game.
Learn Omnislash - Cloud's last Limit Break
All level 1, 2 and 3 limits must already be learned. Omnislash can be obtained by fighting in the Gold Saucer's Battle Square. This can be done at any point in the game, however it is easier in the later stages of the game as the cost is reduced and the party has access to more powerful weapons and materia combinations.
When you leave the Battle Square you lose all points, so this must be done in one sitting. This can be done early on, but omnislash requires 64000 battle points early in the game whereas it only requires 32000 later when the Gold Saucer reopens.
[insert good battle square strats]
Learn Catastrophe—Barret's last Limit Break
All level 1, 2 and 3 limits must already be learned. Speak to the woman in a tent in North Corel after the Huge Materia event where you're tasked with stopping the train, and she'll hand this over to you.
Learn Final Heaven - Tifa's Last Limit Break
All level 1, 2 and 3 limits must already be learned. Play the good old FFVII main theme on Tifa's piano with Tifa in your party after Cloud returns following the events at Mideel.
Learn Great Gospel - Aeris's last Limit Break (Incredibly Missable)
All level 1, 2 and 3 limits must already be learned. This must be obtained before setting off for the Temple of the Ancients. After the party has obtained the buggy, you are able to access a small cave to the northeast of Junon across a small river. Inside this cave is a man who will tell you how many battles you've fought/fled, and will wake up when the last two digits of this number match. If they're odd (i.e. 77), he'll give you mythril. If they're even, he'll give you a bolt ring, then you'll have to go outside and fight another 11 battles. When you have access to the Tiny Bronco you can exchange the Mythril with a man in a lone house to the west of the Gold Saucer on the world map. He will allow you to choose from one of the boxes in his house - Great Gospel is in the small flap on the top floor.
In order to expedite the process of learning Aerith's limit breaks early, a good idea is to give her a Hyper. She'll take more damage, but her limit bar will fill quicker. You may also wish to place her in the front row for extra damage. This will unlock her second tier limits quickly. To unlock her level two and three limit breaks, give her an enemy skill materia with matra magic and head to the room at the back of the Mythril Mine (Fort Condor entrance) (screenshot) and have her use Matra Magic to kill the enemies here repeatedly until they unlock. In this room enemies only appear in groups of 4 or 5, so this is a quick way to level up all characters' limit breaks.
Learn Cosmo Memory—Red XIII's last Limit Break
All level 1, 2 and 3 limits must already be learned. This is dropped by Lost Number, the boss you need to fight in the Shinra Manor in order to get the key to recruit Vincent.
Learn All Creation - Yuffie's last Limit Break
All level 1, 2 and 3 limits must already be learned. This is dropped by Godo, the last boss of the Wutai pagoda, and is required to obtain the Leviathan summon for the "Making Waves" trophy.
Learn Slots—Cait Sith's last Limit Break
Cait Sith is the only party member who does not have Level 3 or Level 4 limits, nor does he have an item to obtain to unlock his "final" limit, Slots. To obtain Slots, simply have Cait Sith accrue 40 kills over the course of gameplay. This can be done as soon as you recruit Cait Sith.
Learn Chaos—Vincent's last Limit Break
All level 1, 2 and 3 limits must already be learned. Vincent does not have tier-2 limit breaks. When you acquire the submarine, take it to a small circular waterfall area east of Nibelheim/ west of Corel. You can walk into the large waterfall coming out of the mountain. Do so with Vincent in your party to meet and learn about Lucrecia. Leave, fight ten battles, then return with Vincent to find Vincent's ultimate weapon, the Death Penalty, as well as his level 4 limit break; Chaos.
You can also reach this area with a Mountain Chocobo, and if you're following this guide for earliest possible KOTR, you'll have a mountain chocobo long before you obtain the submarine.
Learn Highwind—Cid's last Limit Break
All level 1, 2 and 3 limits must already be learned. With the submarine, descend at Junon and hug the wall to the east and travel north until you see an in-set area with a grey plane. This is the gelnika, and Cid's Highwind limit break is sitting in a chest in the back room. Save before you leave, as Emerald Weapon can sometimes be waiting directly outside the plane and ambush you.
Complete FINAL FANTASY VII
This trophy is story related and cannot be missed. (Unless you decide not to finish the game, lel)
Obtain the Master Summon Materia
The easiest and least time consuming way to obtain this materia is to defeat Emerald Weapon. To defeat Emerald Weapon, see the strategy outlined in "Emerald Eviscerator".
Another way to do this is to master one of every single summon materia available in the game, then touch the red huge materia in Bugenhagen's observatory and choose to create a master summon materia.
Defeat the Diamond Weapon
This trophy is story related and cannot be missed. You will defeat Diamond Weapon through the course of normal play.
Defeat the Ruby Weapon
Insert good Ruby strat.
Defeat the Emerald Weapon
Obtain the Underwater materia by morphing a ship enemy into a guide book, and trading the Guide Book with the man in Kalm to remove the timer. Insert Emerald Weapon strategy.
Have your whole party fall in battle.
Just let them die?
